This scene is really the only time the old effects break down a bit, simply because of the scale of what they're trying to accomplish. Still an amazing movie.
Furthermore: early in the movie, when the Blob first eats Fran, the priest arrives to find it slinking into a sewer grate. What you probably didn’t know is that, if you listen closely, you can still hear Fran screaming inside of it.

The Blob has a weakness to the cold while being immune to the heat. The Thing has a weakness to the heat while being immune to the cold. Just imagine if both lifeforms came into contact and fused with one another. Dissolving its prey alive and growing to grotesque sizes while simultaneously being able to separate parts of itself and perfectly mimic and behave like its host/prey so as to give more potential prey around it a false sense of security. All the while being immune to both extreme heat and extreme cold. ABSOLUTELY TERRIFYING.
I remember when I first watched this movie, feeling a huge sense of relief when the flame thrower came out. Surely Fire would set everything straight, and then it didn’t.
After it came bursting out of the ground like that and started going after everyone when they showed like a P.O.V. from the Blob's back it was kinda funny how it was picking people up and consuming them like it was at an all you can eat buffet and for that thing that is exactly what it was.
@fromthehaven94 It honestly should have, the problem they didn't is because they thought The Blob won't gain enough attraction to make more money, but it still does. We just need to come up with a story about what happens after the events from The Blob.
I've seen all 3 versions of the Blob and there is one thing I always wondered about and that is who came up with the idea for a living gelantinous mass of death that grows by eating everything in site.
This movie is a cult classic of the red scare in the US. The blob is a representation of the U.S.S.R. A gelatinous blob that consumes everything it touches.
@@ShadowSonic2 oh. Thats a valid point too. I was talking about the original blob movie. The one that came in the 50s. Yeah, biological weapons like amtrax are an example of what we should not be developing nowadays. Specially COVID… *knock *knock FBI agent: FBI OPEN UP!!!! *Door breaks.
More like a reflection of the growing mistrust people were having in the government. The Blob was created as a weapon by the US government which was willing to sacrifice an entire town of its own people for the "greater good" which, as is usually the case, is more for the good of the ruling elite than the general public.
Amazing movie, but this one scene at 1:13 always bugged me. When the flamethrower guy explodes and some of the flame sets The Reverend Alight, you can clearly see he is a stunt man. I think this would have been easily solved if they showed the explosion, but in the next scene only showed the stuntman's feet get set on fire. again, still an absolute banger of a film.
I don't want to see a Blob movie that gets hijacked for the sake of pushing identity politics and how important it is to respect gender pronouns, while the Blob goes about devouring all the straight white males and transphobes in town while it falls to the transracial lesbian to save everyone!
@@RandomBeing101 Nah man, a sequel in today's terms would be disastrous. I don't want to see the threat posed by The Blob sidelined to tell the story about oppressed minorities and trans pride, in the same fashion as Pearl Harbor being a love triangle interrupted by WW2, just to be topped off by the black queer trans lesbian double amputee character to be the one to find out the blob is vulnerable to extreme colds and be the one to save the town/world.
I would not go into a building in this situation. I'd just run along the road until I could find a car and then get them to drive me to the next town and tell the government to send help.
buying this movie might make you a little sad like the effects are to obvious. the monster smashes people and there were no blood. The monster smash the human ON the concrete and the concrete looks untouched. But still a good movie
The bodies of it victim likely didnt break immediately but sunk right into the blob on impact because of it's gelantinous property so there werent much blood to be seen.

Instead of using a flamethrower I would replace the stuff in the back with liquid nitrogen
