    The video shows that, while the Epiphone pickup often gets dismissed out of hand because it is in an affordable guitar, here it held its own against the other pickups being used in this demonstration of tones.

      EXACTLY. sounds just as good as the others.

      with one exception... I don't know if the pearly gates pickup just benefited from being in a strat, but the clean sounds were far away better than the other guitars.

      The Epiphone definitely won the crunch shootout. It may have won all the other parts too. Or maybe that Epiphone Junior is just the best sounding guitar of the bunch. I like its clarity. Maybe the JB snuck by it on the solo sounds, maybe not.

    The differences so slight the 700 T is a worthy oponet. Sounds as good as the rest. I certaninly wont be buying a SD and paying all that money since the 700 is plenty worthy. I would buy one used if I see it for sale for a good deal. My epiphone LP100 will be keeping its pick ups not need to spend money they are fine. The 700t sounded best on the tremelo effect of all the pick ups.

    I really love the 700T so much so I've bought a cheap epi SG, just for the pickup. Now I've throwaway the original split-SD-something in a old Kramer to give room for the 700T. It isn't best for everything, but it is a sound I cant get from any other of my guitars. And I love it.

      i recently got this Epiphone junior with the 700T and I'm a tone snob, and I was very well ready to swap it out but I've left it stock. I seriously love how the 700T sounds. I prefer it to my JB and other pickups in other guitars which I find crazy. My research has led me to believe it is the Epiphone's version of the Gibson 500T. I wish I could find a shootout video of those 2, but I still can't believe what a great pickup it is. Right under peoples' noses!

    When I first tried out my Les Paul Special II I thought they made a mistake. The sound/pickups for the price I paid for the guitar is ridiculous, it sounds so good.

    Epiphone 700T at lowest in the group did very well where other stock pickups don't have its clarity or bite.

    I discovered the Epiphone 700T in a SG Special 1 and really love it. Its Hot, Loud, Bright and very quiet. So many Humbucking pickups do pickup some hum due to non identical coils or differences in the magnetic circuit (magnetic parts and pollpieces) The 700T I find have excellent hum bucking properties. I have bought many 700ts to put in some other guitars from Ebay and Reverb for next to nothing, Great pickups.

    I have an Epiphone Explorer and it had a 700T in the bridge position. It was too mushy for playing metal so replaced it with a Di Marzio super distortion pup. It sounds fantastic now. The 700T are good for some stuff but not for Thrash. Just my opinion.

    I think this video really shows the more gain used, the less difference can be heard between guitars. The heavy gain sound between the guitars was almost exactly the same. Also, the small differences between the neck scale lengths do make a sonic difference with the cleaner tones. Just enough overtone difference. I have the same set of pickups in a Gibson Firebrand Paul and Fender Showmaster. Both have the Pearly Gates and SD ‘59. Both have through necks. They do not sound the same clean or gently overdriven.

    • @stricknine8623
      @stricknine8623 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly right. High gain blurs the lines between guitars and their pickups when running them on the exact same rig and signal..
      This wasn't done in the video but,...Running a little bit of overdrive to achieve a classic rock sound, is as far as you can go and still hear any real differences in the voices of the guitars/pick-ups.

    Depends on personal taste. Most would not rush to change out a 700T, crank it up and you have Leslie West.

    I’m a total novice but I’ve many decades of hearing and appreciating the greats. For me, the 700T suit my taste. Then next is the Pearly Gates. The others seemed to similar and simply not to my liking.

    Really surprised how good that 700t sounded. I have one in my first guitar that I plan on restoring. A 2001 korean epi g-310. Planning on replacing it with a duncan custom sh-5 which from the specs and some shootout videos seems like it might retain the soul of the 700t while being more a bit more versatile with higher fidelity. Anyone think I'm in the right direction?

    The bridge pickup in a Lone Star Stratocaster (2003) is not a Pearly Gates, but a Pearly Gates PLUS.

      I think the Duncan Custom SH5 and DiMarzio Super Distortion are good choices for a Strat. Thickens it up a little

  • @50kal44
    @50kal44 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    When I play through my pearly gates you instantly get that ZZ Top thick Texas tone, unless I have all digital effects. Think that happened here. Not terrible playing just think you should plug into a tube amp or something simple and compare raw tone to raw tone.

    • @MadebyMiike
      @MadebyMiike  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi 50 Kal. The "Dry" Samples were just that: Guitar straight to amp, that's it. No digital effects.

    I'm late to the party with posting a comment but just came across this video... I can't help but notice that the Strat simply sounds like a Strat and is noticeably different than the LP style guitars. Don't mean to knock the video, but it would have been easier to discern the differences in the pickups themselves if you had used the same guitar for each pickup. I know that's a lot of swapping pickups in and out, but really would be the best way to compare things.

    • @MadebyMiike
      @MadebyMiike  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello. You are absolutely right, this was (in part) a video for myself to remind me how my guitars sound like. All the other pickup shootouts on my channel were done with the same guitar though.

  • @50kal44
    @50kal44 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Your jb and pearly gates sound so different than mine I think you have a lot of processing going on that they all sound very similar to me. Would like to hear this going directly into an amp w little to no effects maybe some different amounts of gain.

    • @MadebyMiike
      @MadebyMiike  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      As I said before, the dry samples are just that...dry. Guitar straight to amp, no processing. The thing is, you could put your JB or PG into a 1000 guitars, and they would all sound different. Because tone wood makes a difference, the strings make a difference, the guitar shape makes a difference, even the electronics make a difference. Then we add the amp, the channel, the cab, the cab wood, the mics, the room etc. etc. So yeah, of course it will sound different.

  • @1337wafflezz
    @1337wafflezz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The Pearly Gates of course sounded the most different because it was used in a strat…wasn’t bad though. Just definitely more uhhh “strat-y”

    • @brimars2172
      @brimars2172 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah i noticed that too. it sounded "stratty" somehow..but seems odd just the guitar body could do that.

    • @1337wafflezz
      @1337wafflezz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@brimars2172 it’s not just the body. It’s the scale length and the pickup position in relation to the strings. The bridge position is completely different on a strat than it is on an LP

    I'm sorry, Mike, but this comparison of humbucking pickups was pretty poorly thought-out.
    I mean, I definitely appreciate the effort that went into making this, but I honestly have to say that the video's almost totally useless.
    Why? 'Cause it's perfectly useless to compare different pickups if they get installed into different guitars.
    You really can't hear the true character of the pickup this way.
    There are too many variables involved.
