definitely saw it different, at 21-14 PSU was taking control of the game. even that scramble was desperation, which is why he made himself vulnerable.

Yeah. Same. What was Rising? 9/21? Penn State started figuring things out regardless of QB.

I agree. Utah was not going to win this game.

@@daveduke2371 Right, Rising was doing nothing in the air and PSU was starting to spy with Carter. Rising was 8-21 with 95 yards and half of those on a prayer which was more luck.

This clearly was Sean Clifford's best overall game. We all thought he could play this well, a great game! With USC's loss to Tulane in the Cotton Bowl, it makes our win over Memphis 2019 look a whole lot better!

I don't see any of the currently available 2023 DTs anywhere close to PJ Mustipher who will be gone. I remember Belichek once saying that you don't find many players like Vince Woolfork hanging around looking for work. Feels like something you could say about PJ. It seems to me the biggest need is a couple of space eaters in the middle to the D line.

Hackenberg actually regressed after O'Brien left. He was throwing flat-footed and had terrible mechanics after Franklin took over. I don't think Franklin cared because Hackenberg wasn't his guy.

These guys (and McGloin and Hannifan) act like Rising was in the clear and pulled a hammy or suffered a freak accident. He's a QB who is very strategic with his running game. He got away with it in the Pac for most of the season, and ran into big boy football in the Rose Bowl. He was hit by 3 guys and was KNOCKED OUT OF THE GAME by Penn State's physicality. The obligatory "it's a shame Rising was knocked out" is the stuff of participation trophies. Rising needed to put 35 puts on the board, and that wasn't happening. His backup played some in the Rose Bowl last year (led a late, tying TD Drive), and played (and won) the entire game at Washington State last year.

I don't think we need to look to basketball for a comparable championship game. I'd reference the 1987 fiesta bowl where nobody except Joe Paterno, his team and we the overly optimistic faithful thought they had a prayers chance in hell. You can't really go by Vegas because they just want to move the money around but it was a six and a half point spread then and I don't know a person who didn't take Miami.
But alas that is when football was football and Penn State defenders made receivers suffer deeply for even considering catching a ball over the middle.
However, I don't think this one will feature much defense from what I've seen of both teams in their semi final games so lets see how high they can run up the score and enjoy.

I think you guys had a little trouble eating crow on this one. Utah's QB was something like 8 of 20 before he was taken out of action by the Penn State defense. Penn State still wins this even if the opposing QB stayed in the game. Penn State needed a perfect game to dominate, and they did just that. Beat Utah who beat USC twice.

Sean Clifford let it all out in his final game, KeAndre Lambert-Smith and Mitchell Tinsley stepped up and Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen did their usual thing, Defense was awesome as always especially our secondary. It was a total team win, everything was clicking on all cylinders. Great win and a springboard going into next season, an 11-2 season and a Rose Bowl Championship. #WeAre #2023RoseBowlChampions 💙🤍💙🤍🏈🦁🌹🌹✌️👍😁🏆
