“Borrowing the land for our time here on Earth” love this 💚 Super excited to learn about outdoor stewardship/gardening ☺️ Congrats on your new journey Summer!
Enjoy your journey. I started mine 3 decades ago. There is just so much to absorb into your soul as nature and the microbiome in the soil ecosystem has so much in store for all of you. We are in different parts of the equator but on one planet. Best wishes from the rainforest of Borneo.
I believe more and more people have a heart to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Give me ten years and I will be right behind you. Nature is where my heart is.
Congratulations to you three and the rest of humanity doing, even dreaming of doing the same. I moved all the way to Thailand near the Queen Sirikit Botanical Gardens to a small piece of property. Two ponds built, and about forty fruit and flower trees planted so far. Cheers to all !
OMGoddess!!! I'm so jealous! I wish I was young again. This is my dream but my body can no longer manage it. I wish you so much success, magic, and love!
@@FlockFingerLakes well, you are in upstate NY... I’d be surprised if you didn’t have 5 feet of snow.😂 unless you are referring to NYC. I haven’t looked. thankfully we only got a few inches. Maryland completely stops with just flurries, so...
Wonderful channel. So close to my heart. I will watch all the episodes from now on....but remember: The greatest challenge will be the different people working together. Be blessed.
Newly retired and longing for my 2-3 acres of land to garden and farm...but it’s not my time. I love seeing such you g vibrant human beings living such purposeful lives. I’m going to enjoy this journey as if it were my own.
I’m so happy to have found your channel and your explanation of what you are doing. Your vision really hits home, since I live in the opposite corner of the US in Washington State in a tiny little town called Home on the shores of Puget Sound. Home started out as a Utopian community in the late 1890’s by my great grandparents with a vision such as yours…people living communally in separate homes but connected by an ideology of mutual help while maintaining individuality. The residents of Home were well educated…my great grandmother was the first female to graduate from the University of Toronto and went on to be the first teacher of Home. I still live on the original piece of land owned by my grandparents and have a beautiful garden. My garden is over 100 years old. Home didn’t last as an intentional community of like minded individuals… by 1920 too many people with too many divergent ideas had found Home and it became unwieldy. A few of us are still residents here but the area is changing fast. My only advice to you is to keep your vision limited…too many cooks spoil the broth. Keep up the good work! I just watched the episode on how to make rose cuttings…I’m itching to get started this spring.❤️
The idea of an entirely self-sufficient homestead is fostered by the myth of fierce individualism (pull yourself up by your bootstraps, the 'merican way and negates/defuses/ignores the potency of communal functioning) and is unrealistic. The idea that you must do it all, is too much pressure to bear when starting out and sets one up for failure. Wow! Thank you for sharing this--this is going to be fun!
I've followed your other channel for a while. I'm a landscape architect and have done much of my design work in the San Francisco Bay Area, but I got my LA degree at Syracuse (many years ago) and have been living in a collective house in Syracuse for the past year. I just moved to Germany (a whole other story), but will come back to the collective for a while when the pandemic eases. Looking forward to following this channel!
I love that you so open and honest❣I also love Homestead Bklyn &, Plant One on Me.👍 This is a exciting project/lifestyle! Makes me wish I was 30 yrs younger 😘 I am excited to follow and live vicarious through you all. Sending you wishes and love for much success and happiness in your new adventures ❤🙏
Here from upstate NY. We love visiting garden, landscape and horticulture centers. There are so many in our area that are multi-family owned and they are great. Each family member runs a different part of the business...ie, one family runs the green house and then the daughter's run a restaurant/cafe in the garden center...so much fun to eat surrounded by plants. Another family has a garden center while one member manages the tree farm and another just loves the garden center and bonsai center (they even have classes there) and the father manages the landscaping business. Another one has a farm to table plant stand and sell all locally grown veggies and foods. Can't wait till you're up and running and open to public hopefully. God bless and enjoy all the fresh air. Best wishes.
So happy you are doing this. I embarked on a similar journey with my husband, children, and grandchildren in the Mother Lode (Central Sierras). I love your message of stewardship and commitment to the community. Thank you!
I am even more excited about your range of topics as they are all part of my rural life in Manitoba. With all due respect I hope you will not spread yourself too thin as I do not want you and your friends to burn out. Better to do some things well then a lot of things poorly, we know you are quality and know you will make this a great adventure, you have lots of time and endless topics, so have fun and enjoy the adventure.
Thank you Ralph for caring. I think that's why it won't always be such a "regular" schedule. We don't want to feel the "need" to film if we really just want to be living and working the land. So hopefully that will bring more balance. :)
What a beautiful natural space there. I can see future cabin log houses for city folks to stay and learn about nature. Plus communities of various handmade craft to learn. And that lake for migratory birds watching. I'm excited even though I lived on the other side of the earth.
Thrilled you taking your talents to the outdoor plant world. It is so enjoyable to meet the fauna that grows in your climate. I am passionate about Landscape Architecture and The Sense of Place. Have you thought about a planning on paper together with your partners to form a vision? Would love to help, and looking forward to see your vision take shape and learn about your land and landscape in upstate New York. Wishing the three of you the Best!!!
Thank you, dear summer for sharing your journey to getting connected to the earth! I've been living in a suburban home that has a mini farm with chickens, a wonderful garden and water catchment barrels in San, Jose, Ca. I've taken it over and now looking for amazing folks to help develop our little suburban farm with a a shared vision. Thank you and your house/land purveying partners for sharing the beauty of your vision!!! You al are so very inspiring. I hope to maybe someday buy a plot of land and build a community as well.
I’m here 😌 I grow a lot of my food and it’s so nice to see people like you are thinking to do this we will learn together because every day you learn from every body 👏🏼👏🏼🌷💚👍
Welcome to the finger lakes! I love Plant One On Me, it's been my guide-to-green, and actually inspired me to forest my own home after seeing your own home walkthroughs. I would love to be able to visit Flock if it ever opens to the public, I'm just 20 miles from Ithaca. If you haven't found it already, Michaleen's Garden Center on Triphammer Rd, Ithaca, is probably the largest and most diverse plant source in the county. Definitely recommend!
This is awesome and I think a natural next step for you, growing and following what you believe in. I'm glad to ride along and yes, only post when you have something--your schedule will be mother nature for a lot of it :)
Looking forward to what you will share on this channel. Seeing the clips you included here lets me know that it will definitely be a wonderful journey with you and the gang.
Hi Summer Thank you so much for your inspirational content. My dad died recently and I'm moving into his house, with a big empty garden and broken irrigation system. I'm going to make it as lush and beautiful as I possibly can over the next few years, while I follow your channel! Love from South Africa! 🌿💚
When you said " stewarding the land " it brought such joy to my heart! So looking forward to the evolution of this channel alongside plant one on me. It will be so wonderful to learn from this!
"enjoy the bug life, the birdlife, the wildlife" that was really beautiful thinking, love it.

Thank you Emily. We are so stoked to be doing this together. Thanks for being a part of it.

You are still rocking life, Sum. Love this.
yah! Scott! Let me know if you ever make it back to the Finger Lakes. I still love our sweat lodge session we did.
You know I will, Summer.
This is a such a dream for me that I am absolutely overjoyed to see this happening for you!! Congratulations to all of you 💚💚
Let's do this! My green witchy self wants to live in a community like that but here the rural life isn't too pleasant. Haha!
So many people want to escape the hustle and bustle, myself included. Me and some of my family are already starting to plan our great escape
I would love to see a "Swamp" habitat with carnivorous and accompanying fauna, i think it will work good, with the wet climate and all those ponds!
So excited for you! I've watched you for years and glad to be invited on this new journey. Best of luck!!!💚☺️🌿🇨🇦
This comes at a perfect time as I myself am moving to my dream land to do a similar thing, but add an animal sanctuary 🙌🏾💚🐮🐔🐷🌿🍄🌸
Fantastic Maggie! We should share notes. :)

Speaking as an ex-resident of New York City… Welcome to the Finger Lakes!

Very excited to see this develop. And you are right, finding the right stories is way more effective than a “regular “ schedule.
I know you understand! BTW, are you getting pummeled with snow or are you too far south for that? We're under almost 5 feet now! ha!
