I felt like a kid in a candy shop riding along in this amazing video! How nice to see those different actions of the train so close up. I got into the rhythm of the changes and all of the sounds, I never stopped smiling! Joy-filled video for this older steam lover. Thank you! 👌😊
I just love the Steamers!! I am a 47 year old railfan. My Dad was also a train person and loved the Hudson's. This old gal is beautiful! Thank you for the amazing footage and thank those who restored her and brought her back to beautiful life!! ❤❤❤❤
I just recently graduated from the university of Tennessee and seeing this locomotive always made my day. I’ve been a long time lover of railroads and to have this historic piece minutes from my dorm was a treat. Thanks for the informative video! P.s. I also worked a summer at Dollywood and never realized their display train and 154 were sisters!
My 1900 born 6' 11" tall grandfather Wilhelm Schmidt aka big Bill was a train engineer. He retired at 55 year of age from steam. I had a super childhood in his Zuendapp 1000 sidewagon motor cycle scouting railroad lines and equipment with him. Worked as a volunteer at the Selfkantbahn near Holland. Have a 1960 large vintage Maerklin HO layout in a to caboose converted mobile home single wide. Thanks for the video.
I live in north Ohio but I’ve got a soft spot in my heart for the southern. When I was little, I had an HO scale layout in my basement and the only steam locomotive I had was a Bachmann’s model of southern 722. I ran the crap out of that thing pretending to haul excursions around northern Ohio. It’s definitely on my bucket list to go south someday and see as much of the remaining southern steamers (and early diesels too) as I can. Thanks for uploading this! It made my day!
Been watching your stuff for a while for all the Michigan rail stuff. Got started with your Grand Rapids Eastern video that runs to my original hometown of Lowell. I now live in Knoxville and enjoy racing the Three Rivers Rambler when running on the greenway that parallels the track downtown.
I've watched all your videos and they are excellent. What separates you is the entertaining narration. I shot slides in the 70s and 80s. There are so many more tools available now and you use them well. Keep up the 👍 good work.
Originally the train set was 3 coaches, an open air gondola and a caboose. Just in recent years they added two more coaches, and then just since last month added the covered open air car.
Years ago I remember riding a steam locomotive as a kid on the Hocking Valley Scenic Railway. It was like a living creature was pulling the train and of course I immediately wanted an electric train for Christmas. Steam locomotive excursions are becoming exceedingly rare, with many scenic railroads offering something they call "vintage diesel." What a bore...if I want diesel I'll take Amtrak and actually go somewhere.
For future reference, "Gloucester" is pronounced "Glosster". Also, seeing the car names got me thinking. Seeing the first was "Trustworthy" I mentally then went right on from there: Loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.
The thumbs down came from coal hating neck bearded tree huggers who sip lattes and drive a Prius between stints on the Bob Barker with their Sea Shepherd buddies.
Delay In Block Productions CSX kinda ruins everything. They destroyed the “Crazy Eights” despite multiple offers from museums, they ruin the GP30 to create a slug, instead of putting it up for sale to a short line, which I can’t really blame them for since slugs go back to the 60s, but by god is it annoying, no wonder so many people prefer NS, not only would they have sold the “Crazy Eights” and they have Heratige locos, CSX doesn’t have any true heratige locos, no Clinchfields, No ACLs, no SALs, no SCLs, not even any painted in previous CSX schemes that a lot of people much prefer, not to mention that their Dash-3s are butt ugly
The4014Gamer ForTheWin I disagree. CSX is going above and beyond for preservation. The Clinchfield 800, Kentucky Steam, and the SD45-2 that was recently donated to SERM in Duluth, GA are all examples of recent efforts CSX has put forth for preservation and rail heritage.
Delay In Block Productions ok, I was quite harsh, I’ll admit, and had no idea about the 45, but you’d think they’d have sold/donated the “Crazy Eights” to a museum
I loved seeing the open car. My favorite to ride was Missionary Ridge, the open green excursion car that was sadly lost in a derailment a number of years ago. Had to wear goggles due to being pulled by coal burning steam engines. Wish I could get down to ride behind this one. Have ridden behind a number of steam engines. Only way to go. My first train trip was at 1year old. Still love them 82 years later.
I do not think that most anyone could operate the locomotive up that 1.25% grade the first time with out stalling as that was quite a work of art on wheel slip... Good
@@DelayInBlockProductions a whistle origin because i found a sound effect of Southern 154 ''Crosby'' 3 chime in a video game and i want to prove it. i want use around 5:30 to 5:50 (according your quesions)
Seth aka Tweetsie Sadly, no. Over the years KXHR has been scaling back on the usage of 3RR steam, and the trains in general. This year is the least steam has been used so far.
OFF the whistle unless there is a road crossing. I want to hear the locomotive not some one trying to show me his fancy whistle work. I get tired of this whistling in videos today. I used to work out two sharp longs a short and a moan then off the whistle and work the throttle and quadrant. Check the boiler water and look ahead as I pounded down the rails.
Francisco Leonardo What might have you confused, in the one scene with all the whistling, it is 2 crossings back to back, he didn’t pan so you couldn’t see the other, they don’t want to have to use the whistle unless they have to in order to save steam.

Thanks! Great video. Enjoyed the ride and the history of the train!
Thanks for watching!
Great video, I love those classic run-by shots like 16:10 and 21:20. Quite the noise maker!
Central Penn Rail Productions She is such a gorgeous engine! Thanks for watching sir!
What a wonderful production!!! Thank you Delay In Block for posting this. I really enjoyed watching.

Beautiful chime whistle.
Thanks, great vid!
Drayton, wonderful video. I am not much of a steam RR fan, but your narration and tight shots has peaked my interest.
Really enjoyed your video lots of work beautiful shots .. randy sounds
What a nice bunch of guys.
Thats my home town and good ole' 154!
4:44 6 passenger cars! Good lord! That old girl still has her strength. Even at her age!

Thanks for watching!
Awesome job documenting this railroad. Video and narration are excellent. Very interesting details. A+ quality.
AlohaMilton Thank you!
Excellent work!
I work on this train!
How do I get information on it's schedule and tickets
I enjoyed the stack talk. I am intrigued that the second driver wheelset is flangeless(blind) and goes through selfguarded frogs.
nicely done my friend! that was a GREAT day!!!
Ah yes Knoxville my city, I love it here.
The great locomotive.
Great video. Historical comment appreciated. Thanks.
Love that whistle, sounds like my hound dog when he’s sick lol
Awesome!!!!

Amazing!!!!!
Great video man.
Nice whistle!
Sweet little girl!
So cool
And 15 minutes and 25 seconds you can almost hear the engine say " I think I can ".
Robert Burns 😂👌
My thoughts at that point too!!
Camera on a working steam locomotive... so cool
The little engine that could haha!
I sure wish they ran it in the summer
Awesome
Very good video guys don't understand why anybody would give this video a thumbs down they must be steam train haters
The thumbs down came from coal hating neck bearded tree huggers who sip lattes and drive a Prius between stints on the Bob Barker with their Sea Shepherd buddies.
@@BadWolf762 yes I agree
The diesel's weight contributes to the wheel slipping also. Did they ever had to use the diesel to get up the grade?
3:08, HOLD UP, IS THAT A CSX GP30?!?!?!
they're restoring the Texas II aren't they?
That’s a GP30 slug. No prime mover, but traction motors to disperse traction from the GP40-2.

Epic

Is that middle driver some sort of idler wheel? I don't see a flange.
For this case, the locomotive was on tight curves a lot of its life, needing blind drivers to fit around the smaller curves.
can i use this video and give you credits for it?
What project are you wanting to use it with and how much footage do you plan to use?

Awesome 🇮🇳
What is the track speed on the line it runs on?
Sehr gut video
I haven't seen this one yet
Looks like it never got over 20 mph. By choice or power limited?
At GSMR they have 722
Is the Southern 722 still exists.
Southern Railway yes. In pieces at the Great Smokey Mountains Railroad.
Do you know if they will run spring and summer trains next year?
Seth aka Tweetsie Sadly, no. Over the years KXHR has been scaling back on the usage of 3RR steam, and the trains in general. This year is the least steam has been used so far.
@@johnblackstock748 aww , i hate to here that i wonder why they don't let them run like they use to?
