    Guess what? I’m clean out of footage this week, so I dug deep through my archives to find some clips from a Delta MD88 flight from 2018 that I never did anything with.
    Anyway, with the retirement of the Delta MD88 less than a year away, this ended up being a perfect opportunity to say goodbye to the old gal. It was just a short hop from West Palm Beach (PBI) to Atlanta (ATL), but it was fun nonetheless and I’m glad that I was able to do something with this footage.
    I had seat 31E for this one hour and twenty minute flight, and the aircraft registration was N950DL.

    Boeing completely can't see the forest for the trees. What do I mean? Okay, so Airbus comes out with the A320neo/321neo, the planes with the much larger--and more fuel efficient--turbofan engines. So what does Boeing do? Hey, let's place these buggers under our outdated 737 MAX platform, change the centre of gravity, then augment to whole thing with MCAS, don't tell pilots about the latter, then watch 376 people die for nothing in the process. Hmmm... Because the MD-80/90 series won't work with those larger turbofan engines without their centre of gravity being effected significantly? Furthermore, because the MD-80/90 series is a lot more different than the A220 platform in terms of seat cross section (it's virtually identical)? And the development time and costs are going to be killer for this relatively simple iteration???
    Step one: re-engine the MD-90 with LEAP engines. Step two: update interior. Step three: substitute wings and fuselage components with new composite counterpart over time. Result: low risk solution to Airbus A220/320neo/321neo with an added bonus, namely better eye candy for aircraft spotters. What's more, engine noise is relegated to the back of the plane, not under the wings!!
    Won't tell you what I think of Boeing management at this point. The 737 needs to tossed in the dust bin of history ALREADY.

    • @Jack3md
      @Jack3md 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry buddy but it's gonna be around for decades to come, the MAX will be a great aircraft! And the safest in the world, once re-certified. Just give it some time, they'll come out with a clean sheet design like a 75-767.

    "I'm whiter then white bread and have very delicate skin" - Closing the window shade was worth that quote in my opinion....also now subbing! and R,I,P MD 88/ DC9
    At least the MD90/717 are still flying with them but not for long

    • @ishiddddd4783
      @ishiddddd4783 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      the MD-90 will be gone soon, but delta stated that the 717 will be with them for at least 2030, so the Dc-9 legacy might live for a little bit more

    This is actually an amazing review, the MD-88 is such a workhorse and a beauty to fly! I would have never thought of this as boring given our these will be phased out. Pretty rare review!
