Needless to say, we’re going to have to talk about some spoilers for Avengers: Endgame, so keep reading and watching at your own risk if you haven’t seen it. Tony Stark was the protagonist of Iron Man, which kicked off the Marvel Cinematic Universe all the way back in 2008. We’ve seen him face his greatest fears, including the Mad Titan Thanos, and help train new superheroes like Peter Parker, Rhodey and even Pepper Potts. We all know he made the ultimate sacrifice, so let’s talk about how that all played out and what it meant.
While Tony Stark was motivated by fear, Natasha Romanoff was always seeking redemption. In Age of Ultron, she admitted to feeling like a monster because of her past. According to actress Scarlett Johansson, she was always trying to redeem herself and, by sacrificing herself for the Soul Stone and to protect Clint Barton, she was finally able to be at peace. Only time will tell what effect this will have on Clint and whether he continues his journey as Ronin or Hawkeye.

Natasha had a lot more time to think about her fate; that matches his sacrifice. At least he knew he had succeeded in his mission. Nat's sacrifice was a literal act of faith.
Yes, Natasha could have never known if the team will succeed or not, yet she put all her trust and her life just to get a piece of their puzzle.
I haven't seen anyone mention how this was a throwback to Cap and Tony's argument in Avengers:
"You're not the guy to make the sacrifice play, to lay down on a wire and let the other guy crawl over you."

Natasha loved Clint's family too. She sacrificed herself for THEM. She wanted to make sure that he was there for them when they came back. That's what you do when you love someone. Don't undermine her sacrifice.
There should have been an element of unrequited love between Clint and Nat instead of an awkward forced almost-relationship between two actors with little chemistry between them.
I know, right? She had a love and respect for Bart that he returned, and it wasn't a sexualized relationship. That would cheapen her character if it had been. She's a godparent to Bart's kids, and fights to sacrifice herself so he can come back from the abyss and be a father to his children (again). If a man had done the same sacrifice for a woman, let alone so the woman could return to her children, there'd be no (well, some since it is the Internet) criticism.
It’s not just that though. Natasha also finally felt that she had paid her debt to Clint. He saved her and took her out of her old life were she was just a killer for hire. Gave her the chance to fight for good. She saves him by forgiving him for what he did during grief and by getting the sole stone allowed him to get back the life that made him truly happy.
It was actually a very layered plot point that I think was handled really well.
I know it would have been cool to see Black Widow in the girl power moment after Captain Marvel gets the gauntlet though.
It was also because she never had a family and it was the only way clint can see his family

The "Sir" is really what got me. Peter was Tony's biggest fan boy. He idolized Tony, and was always trying to please him, and make Tony proud of him. Meanwhile, Tony wanted Peter to "be better than" him. Old Tony wouldn't have sacrificed himself. He would have "cut the wire". Now that he's a husband, a father, and has everyone back, he's not going to let them die again. So he basically became the old guy that helped him in the cave, when he built his first suit, and told him not to waste his life.

And Tony, most people hate him at first, you know all the Stark Industry things. I really cried when I remember the scene in Civil War when they all mad at tony and said something mean to him knowing that he will sacrifice himself for them. He always seemed like a jerk, arrogant person but tbh, he sacrificed the most.

What also made Natasha's sacrifice so noble is that she didn't allow Clint to lose strength in his grip, (the cliche'd way it could've gone), but yanked herself free & kicked off so that Clint would know he didn't fail her in any way... she was extremely proactive in the whole thing. Now I want to cry again!

But in a way "I am Iron Man" probably started something new in the MCU. Far From Home is the last movie in phase 3(I think) so with Endgame being so close to the end of phase 3 you can count the phrase it as starting somthing new. Dont always think of it as an ending, just a new beginning :)

I know I’m almost a year late, but the first time I watched End Game I cried so hard when Nat died. She reminded me so much of my best friend and my sister. I completely lost it when it showed her body at the bottom of the cliff. I had a full on emotional meltdown, that’s how strong a connection I felt to her. She deserved a better ending, she was always supportive and loving of others and never hesitated to make the ultimate sacrifice. I wish no one had to die at that cliff. I wish that they went back in time and found the alternate reality where they won and no one died. Life is so hard, good people are always the ones to die. 😟☹️😭

In infinity war, Peter Parker was bliped, where he wasn’t dead but everyone thought he was. They were able to bring him back because they kinda just decintigrated but Iron Man sacrificed himself for the rest of them. This shows the whole Avergers group can never be back together because two of the main characters and a very important character died

Natasha's sacrifice was more heartbreaking for me than Tony's. We kind of saw his fate coming. I just wish she could have seen what her sacrifice meant and that they won. Nat's sacrifice was underestimated among them... When Iron man died he knew that they were winning. But when Nat died she didn't know if they will win or lose. She was really taking a chance by sacrificing herself.. And she didn't even have a funeral..

Honestly, I was heartbroken by both of their deaths.
I always go back to Avengers where Steve says to Tony, “You’re not the guy to make the sacrifice play”, and the foreshadowing of that statement even in Avengers it was Tony who almost died, barely making it back through the portal and surviving the plummet to Earth.
Robert Downey Jr. signed up for one more marvel movie after endgame, he might renew his contract but if he doesn’t he still in one more movie

I like the way you said this stuff, though I would love to have seen Black Widow somehow survive. I know it was a big dramatic exit for Tony Stark and his character perhaps had the greatest character arc of all of them but honestly I wish he could have somehow found his way back through some time glitch or some other weirdness. Tony's body was also nowhere to be seen in his funeral. It was just a wreath with an arc reactor let loose on the lake. They should have added Nat's wrist stingers on the wreath as a symbolic gesture.

very true and due to all this talk, I actually forgot how Peter was unable to save uncle Ben and helpless about it.
I always knew that Tony Stark would take the role of "Uncle Ben" in the MCU when Uncle Ben didn't exist and Tony became Peters role model (which made me believe early on that Tony would die in front of him), just in a rebooted way, and not Peters fault this time. The loss will serve as a driving force for Peter being a very pivetal point in his life as an Avenger.
I like how his movies will features "Hap" (Happy) and likely feature alot of IronMans tech, keeping his legacy alive.
He basically became an Uncle to Peter, a role model the same as Uncle Ben was.

I don't think it was a disservice to BW; blame it on the horribly written, female-led superhero movies (Catwoman and Elecktra) as to why we couldn't get a BW movie sooner. In an age of remakes, the studios were hesitant to take risks on what previously didn't work. And yes, it was WW that broke that mold so that we could get CM and now a BW movie.
Actually WW wasn’t the reason CM was able to be made, they planned the movie all the way back in 2014 but didn’t start producing it until a few years ago

Right! Because sometimes a person cares for you (or needs you) so much that you feel like it's your Dad (or Mom/Son/Daughter/Brother/Sister). Doesn't matter if they're blood-related. For Peter, Tony was a Father figure and I guess when Tony said to Cap "I lost a kid" he really meant it exactly that way. It hurts like hell! I call it heart-related! I lost my best friend and I feel like I lost a part of me, my sister I never had.

Yes.... kinda.... it was in a movie reel shot something like twenty years beforehand and he didn't see it until Howard died.
So technically yes but he never felt loved growing up. But actually that probably drove him to become what he ultimately became because he was fighting to be smarter, and better and more successful than his old man.
