    Hey jack, perfect timing for me to watch this! Actually watched your previous progression vid just today and have only been practicing blind for a couple days, yet to get my first solve. I'll try to get into M2 sooner now that i've seen this! Already put some groundwork down for op/op though. Already knowing the pll's I find your op edges tutorial really helpful, and op/op pretty simple to get my head round. Thanks for your vids, and for inspiring me 😊

    Hey jack so i recently started bld using old pochmann. I understand how to solve it and the concept, all of it basically but im not able to memorize the edges and corners and i keep forgetting them while executing them. If i write the comms down then i can do it pretty easily but when i try to do the memo without writing it i really struggle to remember. any tips for the memo? Or should i change my alg sets to M2 or something?Thanks

    • @JackCaiCubing
      @JackCaiCubing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Roshni, would say to stick to old pochmann for now and incorporate letter pairs into your solves. I don't recommend learning other methods/algs until you can comfortably memorise and solve a cube blindfolded. I provide examples of this in my OP/OP youtube tutorial series

  • @sludgecase
    @sludgecase 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Since I use audio memo for edges and image memo for corners, should I use different words for letter pairs for edges and corners? For example, for "AC" I think of an image of an air conditioner. But saying "air conditioner" is kind of long in audio memo.

    • @JackCaiCubing
      @JackCaiCubing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      the essence of audio memo is to make a letter pair represent ONE syllable - so you could do ACe or like an 'ack' sound

    I had just learned 3bld op/op when you did your last q&a. You recommended going right to m2/op. I watched your and jperm videos, came up with a mix of your and his setup/alas. My second m2/op try was a success, and quicker than my best op/op. And I'm having more fun using m2.

    • @andrewtan881
      @andrewtan881 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@earthquake4821 Strictly speaking, no because 3-style is basically just an entire list of algs. As long as you know how to trace pieces and you know all the algs (or are able to derive them easily on the spot) + you know how to handle parity + you know how to handle corner twists/edge flips, you can use 3-style.
      The problem with this is that there are a lot of algs. We're talking 378 corner algs and 440 edge algs, making for a total of 818 algs (half of them are inverses of the other half so you only really need 409 unique algs) excluding parity. Depending on how you handle parity, it might be another 21 algs on top of that, though you could choose to reduce that to just 1 alg if you really want. What methods such as M2, Orozco and TuRBo do is to simplify everything into a more manageable number of algs (Old Pochmann corners and M2 edges use only 1 alg, Orozco for corners uses 21 algs, TuRBo for edges uses 4 algs). These are definitely not as efficient or fast as 3-style but it makes things simpler. As for tracing and memorization, it is the same no matter what method you use.
      The good thing about 3-style algs themselves is that all of them can be done as a commutator which makes it a lot more intuitive and easier to derive/memorize. Also, there is often more than one way to do an alg, that's why you often see blindsolvers' algs lists that have different algs from other blindsolvers. For me personally, I switched to 3-style before I fully memorized all my algs but only when I had a good enough grasp of commutators to somewhat re-derive them on the spot. It's definitely possible to go straight for 3-style, but be prepared to handle the sheer number of algs (it's still a lot no matter how intuitive it is). I hope this makes things a bit clearer.
      TL;DR You can learn 3-style without knowing Orozco or M2, but alg many.

    • @earthquake4821
      @earthquake4821 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@andrewtan881 Wow, bro.. i wish i could give a thousand likes to your reply. It's super helpful and clear. Thank you so much.
      Currently, I'm using M2/OP.. but I'm into bld and I wanna get good at this. I know eventually I'm gonna switch to 3-style but I was a bit confused whether or not I have to know orozco and eka first. But you made it clear and thanks alot. With that many algs for 3-style, it's gonna take me a lot of time to learn.
      Btw, how much time did it take for you to learn 3-style?

    • @andrewtan881
      @andrewtan881 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@earthquake4821 Well, I probably took longer than necessary. I spaced it out since I was focusing on other events and also, I had the bright-but-not-so-bright idea of coming up with all of my comms myself. On the bright side, it helped me to learn and understand different ways of doing setups and interchanges and stuff. On the other hand, I probably wasted time coming up with less-than-optimal comms that I ended up changing to something better later on. All this took around half a year, maybe more.
      If you're really serious about 3-style, I'd say about 1 month (more if you want to space it out) should be possible (just an estimate, no idea how realistic this is). I'd recommend creating your own excel/google spreadsheet where you can compile all the algs you want to use. The easy cases can be easily figured out if you understand commutators and for the more difficult ones, take Jack's advice and go look at a few top blindsolvers' alg lists and pick whichever alg you think you can execute the best. Including parity algs and maybe corner twist algs, that should take a few days, maybe a week. Apart from that, you'd want to drill your algs when you've learnt them (Jack recommends flashcards like Anki, which I also use). Depending on how long you need to internalize ALL your algs, you might take a few weeks, maybe more. That works out to about a month total. Of course, you can do this by set (compile algs for one set then drill that set before moving on to the next) or if you prefer to compile everything before going through and drilling them, that's fine as well. Anyways, Jack's 3-style tutorial is there for your viewing. You might want to check out Stanley Chapel's 3-style rant video as well, the description has a few good links to alg lists.
      TL;DR I took about half a year or more, but a month should be possible (I think)
