    I would argue the exact opposite. I think people new to credit should get a charge card first so they can get use to paying their bill every month in full. If they can't handle a charge card they are doomed with a credit card. Just my 2 cents.

      Tee Cee you're leaving lots of money on the table by not taking advantage of charge cards and the rewards you can get from them. New AMEX Gold is a perfect example. But I understand some people aren't responsible enough or smart enough to be able to use charge cards properly.

    The American Express everyday card is also good to get even after you get the Platinum card. The Everyday card can be used as a safety net for all your hard earned membership rewards points in case you have to cancel your Platinum card if you were to run into any financial troubles. It would be awful to lose all of those membership rewards points.

      I have the everyday card, but another 1 I got was to get the blue business plus. I did it as a sole proprietor. It's no annual fee and gets 2X per dollar for up to $50,000 spend in a calendar year then 1x afterwards. When you max out the grocery category on the everyday card, switch all your spending to the blue business plus or if you go to Walmart supercenter or target that's not considered a supermarket, use the BBP instead

    I only applied for that card on Monday and it arrived in the post this morning. Can’t wait to start using it and collecting points. I thought about going for gold but I didn’t think I would have spent enough to get the sign up bonus plus as well I didn’t like the idea of an annual fee just to use a card; so the Everyday was the best option for me. I’m not interested in using cards to get into airports lounges so that was another reason why not to go for gold or platinum

Although I have two other cards (a Barclay Freedom and Lloyds Platinum) and have been paying my balances off in full.

    This is great for consolidating and transferring debt from one credit card to this one. There are 0 fees for transferring money into it and 0% APR on Balance Transfers for 13 months as long as you transfer within 60 days. If not, the APR could be up to 24% after the 60 days if I'm not mistaken. There are almost no cards this great for Transferring debt. Hopefully this will be my last credit card for a long time if not ever.

    With all those cards PIN numbers must be a problem.
    Do you have the same one or a special formula to calculate PIN from card numbers?

    • @darvinray1783
      @darvinray1783 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Alex Bright - unfortunately credit cards from USA do not have real chip-and-pins. They have chip-and-signature instead. with signature as primary form of verification.
      i believe only 3 credit unions in the US offer real chip-and-pin cards.
      Some banks do allow you to set up a pin, but its only for ATM/cash advance use.
      If you're lucky, you may have a bank that allows pin as a secondary form of identification for credit purchases.

      And interestingly in the US they aren't even requiring the signature anymore for a lot of purchases. I know Costco didn't require it until $200, but might be higher now. Its to the point I'm surprised when I have to sign.
      I have no idea where this makes sense but it is what we have.

    So if you get the 10k signup points for this card and later decide to upgrade to platinum, would you still get the 60-100k bonus offer on the upgrade? Assuming its been a couple years after getting the everyday card, would it be better to just get a card for the platinum or upgrade Everyday to platinum?

    I had a credit limit of 200 used 123 and paid it in full two days before the due date my credit utilization is 54% and my score dropped 40 points. It’s been paid off in full the September 12th(the due date) and my credit limit went up to 500, I made a new purchase on the 16th that will keep my usage under 7% which I intend to keep at 7% till the next due date and pay it 2 days early like last time , question is, they didn’t update my credit score, is it bad that I made a low purchase just to show I use it? Or should I have waited till my credit score updated and then spend?

    I’m confused, say on day 1 of the monthly cycle I spend $500 then do not spend anything until the end of the circle. Would I get charged the same amount of interest if I spent $500 on day 29 of my circle instead of day 1? As from day 2-28 do they work out the interest on a daily basis?

    • @francesnicole671
      @francesnicole671 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the interest would be charged on an average daily basis, if you spent $500 on day 29 it wouldn't be as high as when you charged on day 1 of your statement cycle.

      Fu Lim if you have the cash now, not a bad way to got minimum spend. Just keep in mind your opportunity cost for that cash. What would you have done with the cash if not paying off your car this month?

    • @jamesonnorth
      @jamesonnorth 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fu Lim Possibly, but it would be expensive to do so. You can generally purchase a vehicle (or a portion of one) on a credit card, but paying off a loan with a credit card would incur fees that may negate your rewards value. Check with your loan provider if they accept credit cards, and if there are any fees associated with that.

    Amex Everyday T&C says they will not transfer debt that isn't in your name. So I am unable to transfer my husband's debt to my 0% $0 fee card? I chatted with their rep and they said it was a federal rule that you cannot transfer debt not in your name. OK... BOA BankAmericard said I can. The final option I will look at is the Chase Slate Visa, which also has $0 fee balance transfers right now. Who is correct?? Thanks.

      You can make more small transactions, but I wouldn’t push it too much, since it could look like you gaming the system. Remember you have a month to do it, so you don’t need to stand at the gas station and pump 30 gallons individually in one day

    • @jamesonnorth
      @jamesonnorth 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Keep in mind even though the Propel card says American Express, it's not issued by Amex. It's a Wells Fargo card that uses American Express for processing and some network perks. USAA has some cards that are similar.
