I think the people who probably stood the best chances of surviving were farmers and those living in the country. Farms would produce their own food, farmers probably couldn’t afford fancy things that were toxic, and the air was cleaner. I don’t know if I would have survived back then, I would have stood a better chance during the Victorian Era than during the Middle Ages I’m sure.
I love your videos so much. I have ADHD, and I sometimes struggle to focus on long video essays, so your bite sized chunks of historical information mean so much!!!!!
Try putting it's playback speed at 1.25, or if that's a bit fast, 1.2 or 1.15. I find that helps me stay in the video since the gaps are smaller and it's closer to the speed in which I talk to people.
Somewhat reminds me a job i had when i was 19 in the local plastic factory. The environment was loud, hot and very dirty. We had no room for eating or changing clothes (workers just showed up in full working clothes and went home in same clothes aswell), toilet had only cold water and no door. Also when any machinery broke down it was my job to fix it up to running order again. All i had was some wrenches and screwdrivers, and 0 guidance of how any of the machines work. I think i'm super lucky that i have all my limbs and fingers on me. Also we worked in 3 shifts, meaning that factory was running 24/7 and even christmas times. Also funny part was when someone didnt show up then manager called next person in line to call into work, didnt matter even if it was his day off at 11pm. Ofcourse the salary was barely enough to afford rent and food in run-down part of town. Sounds like something from soviet times, but nope, i worked there in 2010
I often do my ancestry and found direct ancestors from the Victorian period, moving from rural Bedfordshire to get work in the mills in Leeds, they were the Pitts family, Elizabeth died in her 30s giving birth and her husband Willam remarried, a lady called Susan, when he died 3 of his children from the first marriage went into the workhouse. It is so sad, My Pitts ancestors descended from Cornish nobility but they lived and died in poverty.
I wouldn't survive. My life has been saved by modern medicine multiple times. I've always said I'd love a time machine to visit the past as long as I'm guaranteed a way back to present day whenever I want.
I probably wouldn't have survived after birth, since I struggled to breath on my own and needed the support of a machine. My Mom told me I was in a kind of breeding box.
Victoria could have made a big difference but couldn't be bothered. No, I think I could not have survived any time when there was no indoor plumbing. Running water is awesome! Lol
До момента още от младежка възраст поне три пъти лекарите са ме спасявали от смърт. Да оставим викторианската епоха на романтиците. Познавателно видео, благодаря!
Hi, could you make a video about Waterloo and the Regency Era? I can't find much information about it. I love your channel and your content is wonderful. Kisses.
The fashion and the manners made the Victorian era made it look like they were living the life. The Titanic didn't help neither. I guess u had to be very rich to even enjoy living in these times. And also me being black i can only imagine what my people had to go through as slaves
If all those things mentioned in this video wouldn't have killed me earlier, I would most likely have died in agony from breast cancer aged 36. I'm 42 now and cancer-free thanks to the modern medicine. Thank you very much, Historidame, for your videos 👍🏻👏🏻🙏🏻
Very nice. Well, OK, very informative I should say :=). I definitely wouldn't have survived the Victorian Era since I was born three months premature, so nope, I be dead ;=). As always nicely done, keep it up :=)
I would have died very early on for sure! Thanks for this insightful yet horrifying look into Victorian life. I am so thankful to be living in 2024 rather than 1824! I think if I did live at that time, being a farmer would have been my best chance of survival.
They would have pulled it out, with no pain relief. My grandparent's were born between 1869 to the 1920s, and the ones from the 1920s lived long enough to pass a lot on. It sounded horrific, but a pretty a common thing.
After your video, and reading the comments, I must say we are indeed blessed to be alive in this era. But we also have hidden dangers that could adversely affect us. New medicines that are pushed through too soon and are later found to be harmful; uncontrolled raging at the drop of a hat; pollution of the oceans and lakes; shooters who want to be famous; war; starvation; insects; and on and on. But I am still feeling good that I am alive at this time. Well done, Historidame. I bow to you. Insightful, as well as short enough to retain our attention. Might I suggest a dive into the ways of the Kings and Queens and their peasants? Or a deep dive into Henry Ford or Frank Lloyd Wright? Maybe the fanciful belief of mermaids, or the different fashions of women through the ages? Whatever you choose, I know it will be interesting and perfect. I look forward to your next installment.
Well I am not an expert on the lives of POC during this era, they would have likely faced worse conditions than the Europeans, especially if they were poor. I would encourage you to do some of your own research on the topic! :)

Spoilers: Nobody survived the Victorian Era.
Hahaha😂
Not true, all those kids that grew up. 😁
Grew up to 10? Yeah no

I'm so glad to hear it! I like the 10-15 min format too because it feels like I can get a detailed enough explanation without it being overwhelming.
Same! I’m a fellow ADHD girlie, for me it’s the changes in inflection that help me not dissociate ❤

Child birth would have killed me if my severe OCD as a teenager didn't send me to the mental asylum first.
Your content is grade A!
Thank you so much! 😊
Love your historical videos. I am sick and basically bedridden past 5 years. I look forward to your posts. Keep going...😊
I'm glad to hear my videos bring you some joy! :)
It literally makes my day better when I see a new video of yours❤❤❤Keep going🎉
That means so much to hear! Thank you! ♥

Yikes!
Wow that is really bad conditions. The rich taking advantage of people.
Horrible!

Cool! I've always wanted to track my ancestry. It seems so interesting!
0:00 the lady in the pink dress was named Anne and she had a hummingbird named after her called anna's hummingbird!
anyways great video!
Cool!

@@Historidame Yes exactly! lol

Awesome video thank you! 🎉

Would have been dead from tuberculosis. I had it in 2018. 4 months of TB treatment antibiotics.
Yikes! That must have been brutal.
Hooray a Historidame post!

I wouldn’t have survived due to a tooth abscess in my twenties - there were no antibiotics then.
California would have a field day during the Victorian period.

I think the fact that im apart of the lgbtq and a person of color would make it obvious to me i wouldn't survive in Victorian era england😭
my mother and i would both have died at my birth, born 1967 forceps and medical people got me out the womb with just a bit of brain damage

🫵"so.. do you think you would have survived the Victorian era?"
Me: nope!
Am I high (yes) or does your voice remind me of iilluminaughtii?
Oh god, please no.
Don't insult her like that 😬
Would not have survived, my mother went into labor at 4 months and had to have it chemically stopped and then i had Scarlett Fever at 5
I have weak enamel so I would have been taken out by a tooth.

Houston Mountain
Pat or present mankind is it’s own disaster
I wouldn't go past two years lmao I had pneumonia when I was a baby 😛
It's actually a miracle anyone survived at all
I have allergies so I would have probably been taken out by mold or dust 😅
“Such a good colour on these people” - 👴🏻
Probably safer in the Army back then
No penacillian. I grew up w ear infections. Wouldn't make it out of babyhood.
