These include thinking about the non-fiction work as a marketable product with an emphasis on how the reader's life will be changed by that product. You also answered my burning question about the necessity of a book proposal for memoir; yes and no depending upon to whom you submit. Very helpful.
If you're writing a memoir, you don't always need a proposal, but if you're writing something like self help or a business book, they want a proposal regardless of whether or not you've finished the book. It's a marketing plan, not just an outline.

Lol! I'm happy to help. And memoirs are unfortunately inconsistent when it comes to book proposals.
