  • While the Germans are still advancing in Flanders (Operation Georgette), the other fronts are not always quiet. In Palestine, the British forces and the Arab Revolt are taking the initiative again. T.E. Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia) and the Arab Revolt are attacking the vital Hejaz Railway, a major transport factor for the Ottoman Empire.

    So the Germans occuplied Helsinki, but the real question is if they'll Finnish the job ;-)

    • @jarnomikkola8438
      @jarnomikkola8438 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It was actually Finnish(the whites) that was fighting Finnish(the reds), not Germans. There were a handful of Germans, yes, but hundreds of times more of (white)Finnish.
      Yeah, it was a civilian war between two sides that got eventually sorted. And a large portion of those "German", they were actually sent to Germany to study war, by the whites... which actually makes them Finnish too.
      Or can you tell me how an original Finnish, that became a Russian general that was on the side of the whites, later got a Presidency ? It was during the Second World War by the by, while Finland began to fight the Germans.

    • @RolfHartmann
      @RolfHartmann 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I guess they had to Finnish themselves ;-)

    • @joluoto
      @joluoto 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That would actually be Germans, the German expeditionary force to help the whites in the civil war were the ones that took Helsinki from the Reds. So it was Germans, just Germans backing the Finnish Whites.

    • @petergray2712
      @petergray2712 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Well they've been Russian around until everyone was Red in the face. Let's see if they can Czech the enemy advance and Polish them off. If you Ukraine your necks this way, you might see the Romanianing forces get Hungary for victory, and seal the deal

    I was looking through an old book today on the Kaiserschlacht today, stated that the Germans focused on defeating Britain because their artillery was considered weaker than the French. The French also had an effective defensive strategy and were eventually attacked to draw forces away from the North. Anyway, can't wait to hear about The Second Battle of Marne.

    I understand you guys probably have alot of material to fit in your 10min video every week but...
    I feel like you could've given the Belgians a little more attention for their actions this week. This was the first time the rebuild & retrained Belgian Army got into some serious action and they managed to impress both friend or foe. It was also a turning point for Belgian involvement in the war.
    But hey, you can't please everyone all the time. Great series, the best!

    I think that a really interesting episode, which would work well in the coming months, should be focused on the naval blockade of Germany and how the effects of the blockade drastically reduced the calorie intake of civilians at home. Yes, yes and yes.
      Clemenceau visited the trenches many times. One of the stories tells that during one of those visits, he climbed upon the trench, shook his fist toward the German trench while shouting "We'll get you !" then casually came back down the trench under every soldiers' dumbfounded watch.
      There are multiples newspapers, videos and statues reporting those events.

    I was thinking about it. What will happen when it becomes November 11 2018? Will the channel cover after the Great war. Will there be new channel on the period between WW1 and WW2 followed by another channel to cover WW2? So many questions

      Britain has been a Constitutional Monarchy since the end of the English Civil War, in other words the elected parliament was the true power in England from 1651. So in fact he was indeed correct, England HAS in fact been a Democracy since BEFORE the USA existed.

    What about Romania? Ever since January, Bessarabia declared independence, Ukraine tried to invade Bessarabia, Sfatul Tarii of Bessarabia asked Romania for help, Romania came in and Ukraine retreated, Bessarabia declared union with Romania, the Central Powers started pushing through Romania, they reached a stalemate at the Battle of Focsani, then signed the Armistice of Focsani. After the armistice, Romania wanted to delay peace as much as possible in case the war will be won on the western front.
