as a mongolian lemme give you some info about mongolian saber, mongolian saber was perfect for warriors when the blade was the same length of its owners hand and thickness of the most wide area of its warriors 3 finger wide, the bottom part or the pommel had the symbol of the clan or the shape of the clans animal head, the hand guard had continuous reverse swastika’s engraved, the wood for the handle was made from a very hard wooden bush from todays bulgan province
One thing I love about the mongols is how they took little bits and pieces of culture from everywhere they went. They were very open too new ideas and they arrogant enough to assume that only they had the right ideas.
That saber looks a lot like a early proto-sabers found in the steppes from the Wikipedia drawing. I think the Mongols used something close to the Dao in the second part of the video, there is even some Yuan era Mongol sabers found resembling it in the Genghis Khan museum.
I have this same saber made by Art of Iron and Fire with different fittings but the same blade geometry. I love it immoderately. The false edge didn’t come sharpened but I remedied that! I love that the curve is gentle enough that it works equally well for thrusts. Terrific video! Thanks!
I'm so glad you liked the video! It is such a well designed sword, surpassing all my expectations. Now that you mentioned it, I can't believe I forgot to say anything about the thrusting with this sword, and just like you said, it works really well!
This is an awesome review of the saber. I love your wrist flicks while doing some light demonstrations. I can tell that the saber can cut and slash effectively.
Most of the stuff in ghost of tsushima is way later than the setting, the armour for example should be very boxy and better fit for horseback, and hell, haikus didn't even exist yet
Great video. I also have this by LK and I really like it. Mine feels like a robust and stiff war blade but not too cumbersome or slow. It's a bit of a slugger though similar to the Song dao or the Wo Yao dao. It's really pretty and well made but I think they could use a more interesting material for the grip, some darker reddish brown would look cool with the black fittings for instance. I would also like to see more Mongolian and early Turkic swords being made. Perhaps there are not many historical examples left to look at?
Hey man, i'm coming from your Three-Section-Staff videos and i've been meaning to ask if you could recreate Toji vs Dagon scene from Jujutsu Kaisen (of course not everything would be the same, but if you could adapt a coreography), it's a very popular anime i think it would be cool to watch! One thing needs to be clear, Mongolian = Chinese, Han = Chinese, Mongolian ≠ Han, Yuan dynasty = 13 - 14th China, the first time full Han region has been ruled by minority. Kublai named Yuan and means that he recognized himself a Chinese, "the son of heaven" aka the true emperor of China! ( the country Outer Mongolia was part of China but got independence by Rusian’s help)
Kublai never saw himself as Chinese but a Mongol. The Mongols were often prideful and tribal people who looked down on the local Han population and even prevented mixing with them.
Mongolians are not chinese. Also only reason Kublai khan called himself chinese is to make the Chinese people to support him, it was all politics. The notion that Mongolia was part of china goes c Both ways. China was part of Mongolia as well. Its pointless to memtion Mongolia was part of china. 😅
@@SifuKuttel Nice. Some of the other smiths have swords called Moroha zukuri that has a similar profile, but I think they make false edge a bit too long. Some of them are like half of the length. LK really pays attention to detail.

Btw this sword design was utilised by cavalry throughout the Ming dynasty too alongside the stereotypical Ming dynasty dao types

Regarding ghost of tsushima, I'm Japanese so the use of katanas over Tachi bothers me as well

It's hard to tell from video and pics because of reflections.
30cm on my sword which is very close to what’s advertised on their site, and proportionately 1/3 of the blade length.
