  • When I was in my early 20's I joined Amway! Some call it a Business opportunity, some call it an MLM or a Pyramid Scheme. For me, it is a big regret BUT it set me off on a personal growth and development journey that has changed my life forever! In this video I talk about why I joined, why I left and any regrets I have.

It really is, especially if they don’t want to give details until you go to the “meeting” and it’s very cult like. Everyone was extremely nice and smiled almost too much. I can honestly say i was in a very vulnerable state at the time i joined which was 2016. I felt like i was getting nowhere in life so it was a perfect time for someone to motivate me to try something new and think outside the box. I left amway after about 5 months of seeing no one making real money and seeing the trends which is buying so many products and buying into seminars and conferences which is where amway makes the real bucks in my opinion. No one tried to help me make my business grow or downline grow. I decided to leave and good thing i joined bc i learned alot from what they do they pretty much prey on your goals and dreams and try to make it very simple by saying you buy these products anyway why not buy from a company that pays you back. Love the people, hate the business model. Now that I actually understand business after trying many things and actually starting and failing at other businesses, the numbers don’t add up. It makes no sense. Glad to have learned 😁

This couple approached me in a grocery store out of nowhere. The wife said I have a very nice tie and then asked me what my interests were and they said they have the same interests. We had a great conversation. The husband then gave me his number, he kept in contact with me always checked how I was and sent me smiley faces. We then met one time at chipotle and mentioned he was a drop shipper, I never heard of that and he said we'd discuss it more next time. We then met at Panera and told me about Amway and it's pyramid scheme in detail. He'd often switch the conversation to something I was interested in and whenever I displayed the knowledge on my interest he'd say I was awesome, cool, intelligent, and you're the man. I felt like a god. He said he would send me some information on when a business lecture on Amway would be held at his house. I now know why he was so friendly. The old saying we all know "If something seems to good to be true it probably is" is true.

That is Sad to hear, because you can make a lot of money doing Marketing and sales, especially online and honestly at that. All the major brands do it, Nike, apple, Microsoft, Muscle milk, Sephora etc. You probably had the wrong mentors or Upline-they are not suppose to push anyone to do the business and tell them your awesome your great just to get a body. I don’t know about you, but if I was trying to grow a business I want someone serious about making money, not afraid of the grind. I don’t want to have to tell them oh your great, you can do this cmon. It’s either you make money, let me help you make money or by here is your money back hit the door-good luck with your endeavors. That is why if you decide to do it you can get all your money back-and use say no. Also for products you got a six month guarantee. Send it back in six months and still get your money back? What other company does that. Most people quit because sales and marketing is not easy-the right mentors and teachers can make it harder or easier. Sorry you had that experience good luck in your endeavors.

@@mosesoliver3694 correct usually its upline who mess up for not being honest the people they sharing to. I like to be upfront and say that I'm in Amway and I usually just talk about the products and they quality they give.
And most of the time, I wont force people if they are not comfortable (that's highly unprofessional ) and encourage them to question as much as possible to clarify. Tbh you must be able to withstand rejections and even insults ( very rare but I have met a couple who hurled insults at me , I just politely said " if your not comfortable or not interested, you can just say so " and I thanked them for the time and moved on ).
Me personally i aim to get customers for products first. Sharing the Amway business plan is usually second and I keep a principle of honesty and transparency before making the appointment.
The only thing what is the frequency of your effort, if you're slow and business grow very very slowly, if you're fast, the faster your growth and experience with be. If you just joined and expect everything to happen by it self, then you're in for a big disappointment.

I got into the makeup MLM briefly. I went to a meeting at a big hotel, and some man walked in the wrong conference room. These women chased him as he tried to leave the room, trying to sell him product. I knew right then I did not want to be like that. They also made us order tons of stuff, and I could not sell it fast enough, and then we had to order more. I was a broke young stay at home mom and just couldn't tie up all that money in product. What bothered me was that during a meeting I asked about statistics: success rates and timeline to start making significant money. They fell silent and changed the subject. It was also off putting how everyone was saying literally the EXACT same thing, and failed to get to their points. They truly are very specific in how they talk. I would rather spend time investing in myself without having to come out of pocket for something that may not yield any reward.

I was in the Amway cult bc my ex was into it and I fully believed what she told me and went 100% with her. Now hear me out, yes it’s a pyramid scheme, BUT pyramid schemes do work if you do it right. If u think about it a regular job is a pyramid scheme just with a for sure paycheck: you start at an entry level and work your way up and so on. Now back to Amway. They strongly insist that you attend every meeting (which usually costs you) they strongly insist u buy books and ebooks and tapes and video, all sorts of things (when you are big enough that’s where the real money comes from). Now u have what’s called an “up line”...that’s who introduced you to the program. And your “down line” is everyone you introduced into the program. Now it only works if u sell products AND your down line sells products thus earning you a little more. “Basic business and commission”. The real money only comes in when you have a bug mass of people under u selling mass amount of product. So in theory you can potentially make money and good income u just have to have the best charisma and silver tongue to persuade others. I will admit that when I went to the meetings they made almost mandatory, that they tell you ways of how to better yourself and put these dreams in front of you to chase. After I left a lot of the words from the actual big names resonate with me still. THEY DID teach me how I needed to better myself in order to get what I want. And they did help with how to act more professional. I run my own sound engineering business and dj business but I will say I took a lot from their meetings. All the meetings they had were to just “fire you up” ( you’ll hear that a lot) but the words they spoke made sense. Hope this helped! It’s not necessarily bad but also not a quick come up!

Yeah, me too Paul. Back in the early 90's. Just sitting at the counter in a Dunkin' Donuts in San Diego. Having coffee, reading the SD Union-Tribune. Some guy about my age wearing a dress shirt and tie sits down one stool away. He started his Amway pitch. Starts asking me if I know who some guy was. Bill Blitch or something like that. One of those WWDB scumbags. I told him I was aware of Amway and wasn't interested. He kept trying. Telling me how "fired up" his wife was. Gotta hand it to him. He sure tried.

Thanks so much for sharing your story! I was recently approached by someone I met in a training course who told me that he was being mentored by a group of successful business people to have financial freedom and earn passive income. But he didn't mention Amway at all and what they are actually doing to achieve that. I was curious and wanted to meet his mentor.
So we had a few zoom meetings and I attended to one of their group sessions as well, in which there were about 200+ people. To be honest, their approach in self-development and the books/resources they recommended were quite useful and I found that aspect sensible.
But after attending to a few sessions as a part of the recruitment process I decided to step back and do a bit of research and reflect on how my life would look like if I proceed with them. This video is one of the rare ones I found useful but I had already told them that I don't want to continue with the process. Because although I think people in the group have right mindset in terms of personal growth, financial freedom and business, the problem with Amway is that the focus is always on recruiting new people, which in itself provides no value to anyone at all. You either promote a products of a company in a similar fashion to a salesperson or trying to convince people to join you to do the same so it's a kind of self-fulfilling prophecy where no one is creating any value but because of the involvement and the investment that is being done by the followers there's a movement.
And also I had some conversations before with people who were in similar businesses and the problem with them is that you can never be sure if they're genuinely interested in getting to know and connect with you or if they're trying to recruit you into their business. So I didn't want to turn into one of those people. In general I think the mindset is right but the area they apply that mindset is not so much.

Me being a business loan consultant I figured a zoom call about it wouldn’t hurt. I just got off the call and want my 30 minutes back . At this point they didn’t mention the name Amway but I already know. I had a Slight feeling when I met them but, since they are members from my church, I gave them the benefit of the doubt. I’m 40 years old and been around the block. I’ve had friends suckered in 20 years ago. I also went to a Primerica meeting (another big pyramid) which I dodged joining as a teenager. When I asked what products they sell and who they are affiliated with, they danced around the question and expect me to drive a hour and a half to NYC for their cult gathering. I’m upset because I thought they genuinely wanted to be friends and I actually have a legit referral program for people sending me business loan clients. The issue I have with the Amway process i encountered is/was; this guy randomly contacted me over Facebook (we were in the same group together) and then we got talking about life, my goals and dreams etc.
Then he started telling me that he may be able to speak to his mentor to help me and that he 'can't promise anything' etc. So I just went with it, thinking that maybe this is just one of those opportunities of a lifetime to be mentored at something I'm really interested in (coaching, starting fitness and health retreats etc).
3 meetings in, the guy starts talking about amway, products, how 'what you read online about Amway is crap' etc. THIS HERE IS THE ISSUE. When I initially started speaking to that guy through fb, in no way, shape or form did I mention wanting to sell products and be involved in that shit. So why the hell would you set up all these meetings/get me to read books etc and invest time in me (and me in them), without actually telling me what the hell I'm getting involved in. I thought that maybe he had liked my idea about health/fitness etc and was willing to invest time into it, it's pretty bloody stupid to be honest.
As soon as i found out it was Amway I respectfully declined to both of them..but maybe if they'd been transparent from the start, they would've saved time and energy for both of us (so it confuses me as to why the hell they aren't just upfront, as they're losing out too).
Anyway, I don't necessarily think they were bad dudes, seem pretty intelligent etc but such lack of transparency shows alot about someone, regardless of whether they've been brainwashed or not. I do agree regarding the personal development books though, they definitely mentioned that alot, and that's something I'll take away.
I personally think that Amway is a legit company but the vast majority fall at it. It also seems to reel people in and has cultish vibes to it as well.

As I remembered him as a nice guy I agreed and was really happy to see him, although I found some sentences to be weird before our meeting. He worked in IT and I though it was about some startup, but it turned out quite quickly that he was only interested in getting me into amway. I was quite upset, especially when I found out that a big part of his sentences was more or less scripted, starting with having a coffee and that freedom blabla. I felt sorry for him, wishing him all the best and that he'd find what he's looking for in life.

Their makeup and skincare honestly sucks, especially considering the fact that they cost as much as high end products from Sephora and MAC. Some of their food is good, some sucks, but either way they’re super pricy. The granola bars are good but they’re not $40 a box good lol. The ONLY products I still enjoy are the home products but with all of the damage they do to people I probably won’t be purchasing more when I finally run out

I really love skincare. When someone told me that Artistry was one of the top brands, I decided to check them out.
Their ingredient lists are super lengthy for just a moisturizer or toner.
Sun protection is important so I checked their sunscreen out as well. The UV filters are basic, such as octocrylene, zinc oxide, octisalate, what have you. Grab a Coppertone, Garnier or any sunscreen and UV filters won't differ much.

I know when I was in Amway, there wasn't anything anyone could say (who wasn't in Amway) that could change my mind about the business. BUT I was very thankful that I hadn't alienated my loved ones while I was in Amway because they were there to support me when I left. Because of this, I'm a big believer that you can't pull anyone away from what they believe to be their dream/help them achieve their dreams; All you can do is love and support them so that they know they have someone in their corner if they choose to leave the business...THAT BEING SAID I don't know your relationship with your boyfriend (how long you've been together, living together, shared values, etc.) so I don't know if this will be helpful to you at all.
