Okay, so obviously we’re all worried about this alerting Trent and putting the party/Caleb in danger, but after rewatching I’m more worried that Jester using her real last name could put her mom in danger. I know the Ruby doesn’t really advertise her real name, but for someone as famous as she is, it probably wouldn’t be too hard for intrepid government types to find. And the Ruby of the Sea is a lot easier to find and a lot less protected than Jester is. ....also Matt visibly raises his eyebrows when Jester used her last name, which is more than a little concerning.
I mean in theory you're right, but we don't know how common of a last name that is, also with a 15 role it might be obvious that the use of that name, if it is uncommon, is just there to look fancy, the REAL concern is that Nott and Brave is on there, as the Nein become more well known that's what might become an issue
Carolyn Walters Marion also resides in a completely different city , while the shell business they quoted doesn’t exist in either city, and presuming they think to “force her to tell the truth” using arcane means, she has next to nothing for them _if_ they were to get in contact.
I would like to note for anyone using this in your campaign, if the player does have a forgery kit, it does in fact, come with seals and sealing wax, and other various things used to, "create convincing forgeries" according to the PHB. If they are proficient and don't have the kit of course they would need one, or the supplies thereof.
But isn't that what good story-telling is all about? Setting up, and resolve, conflict. It could absolutely end badly, but that will be very dramatic indeed. :)
Nott has also thought this through well enough so that the letter isn't instantly connected to Caleb. Feels like people here assume the actual worst outcome possible.
Could go either way, but if Caleb's little indoctrination club was a recruitment tool for the Dwendalian SS or KGB just knowing Astrid's real name could set off red-flags. But the letter is sufficiently vague and ridiculous that it's unlikely Trent would follow it up himself. It will be a slow-burn as all good thrillers are.
Okay, I understand this discussion, but HOW GREAT WOULD IT BE (story and role play wise) if Nott, while meaning well, caused a villain (maybe) of great power to find and harm Caleb (or possibly kill him, idk). The shifts in characters that would cause would be a beautiful thing, and I would expect no less from Matt.
Misses Lavorre, courtesy of the Pillow Trove Hotel? Good god, Nott... What have you done?! Jester splashed that note with her mother's special perfume. Caleb's backstory is going to encounter Jester's mother, and "ply" her for information, possibly resulting in her death. Jester just signed her own mother's death warrant.
The broadcast is 4 am in my timezone, but this part sure woke me up. Existential fear for my favourite character and excitement for possible backstory is one way to start an episode. 😅Thanks for uploading❤
everyones going crazy about how liam/caleb is reacting to this scene but for my money i like to watch how Tal reacts to any of these situations he usually knows who to watch and reacts amazingly most of the time
So I couldn’t find a spell that would track them from the letter unless I missed a spell I went through the divination section on DNDB so the letter wouldn’t track them but remind them that Caleb is alive
*Spoiler C2E62 . . So they did put the name Lavorre and Nott Brave, but no last name on Astrid. So hopefully the letter only reached the academy administration, and replied dismissively. After all it's been years and there are probably a lot of zemnian students all this time with first name 'Astrid'. Or the letter reach the wrong Astrid that indeed have an uncle named Leonard-Leonard. :)
Matt: "So. There is a a difference between candle wax and sealing wax. How do I know?" Looks at camera "Cause I've made that mistake before, in previous D&D campaigns." 🤣
Astrid, literally coming to kill caleb and leading trent to them:
Nott: look!! Friend!! I bring friend!!!!
Nott: "I am trying to reach a young lady named Astrid-"
Marisha: takes a looooong sip of that tea
2:01
Liam: *double face palms*
"tea"
Little did Jester and Nott know they were signing calebs death warrant
And perhaps Jester's and Ruby's.
watching liam go through the five stages of grief as he watches this exchange honestly just makes the entire scene
Watching Liam through all of this is the best part, he looks so distressed
This is Nott a good idea.
Making jokes like a good Jester
OH GOD MAKE IT STOP
And thus, this campaign's Briarwood arc was instigated... by a PC.
Arkatox what?
Hey, I'm here from the future to tell you what a terrible idea this was.
what happened :o or where can i watch it?
I’m sobbing it’s so funny

Yah, Marion has high class clientele, probably including some members of the Cerberus Assembly who we know collaborated with the empire.
imagine how amazing it would be if there was actually a leonard-leonard from nigeria studying at the academy right now

If Astrid finds Caleb, she could lead Trent to him.
Nott means well, but she could cause a LOT of trouble.

@@Hunterfalke to be fair, critters have been trained to expect the actual worst outcome possible.
It's never good when the DM says "Okay. Two things . . . ."
Roses are red
Violets are blue
I'm here from episode 62
And so are you
SHE USED HER NAME, SHE SAID DEVORE AND NOTT!!! AHHHH!!!
THEY'RE FJUCKED!!!
Liam's face when they mentioned Astrid like "...Oh god..."
well this suddenly became VERY relevant
there are almost zero ways this is gonna end well for them and Liam seems to agree..... i can not wait.
2:32 Taliesin passes Marisha a note and then makes an illuminati symbol. What does it mean!?!?
Further evidence that he's a pyramid?
Maybe he's talking about a pyramid scheme which is another form of scam? Idk
This is gonna get a LOOOOOOOT of replay the next few days!
Liam's little eyebrow raise when Nott says he hopes Astrid could help him think of happier times 👌👌

Or they have a really good time together. If they have enough gold that is.
just wanted to say that i love all your clips and also that this letter is giving me a real panic attack! thanks sam
wow you can really see the moment where liam realizes he needs to come up with a backup character
+keith bar lol
@MasterOfBaguettes im a lesbian named caleb and i like caduceus :P
so calebs on a hit list now right
It would seem that way
I love that bumbling Nott is the most frequent fourth wall break in the game
I wonder if the chat raged when no one on camera realized the forgery kit comes with sealing wax (and gold and silver leaf).
"Are you proficient with your forgery kit?" "Well... I *have* a forgery kit..." is the most Jesterish thing.
3:11 Did anyone else catch that tiny smirk Matt gave when Jester signed her family's name on the letter? That is not a good sign...
The broadcast is 4 am in my timezone, but this part sure woke me up. Existential fear for my favourite character and excitement for possible backstory is one way to start an episode. 😅Thanks for uploading❤
Amen to that! But it´s kinda nice drinking coffee 3 hours earlier than usual
I know that expression on Liam's face
It can only be described in one word
"...fuck"
Leonard-Leonard from the town of Nigeria is one of the funniest single bits of improv in this whole show
Plot aside, this is the most batshit insane letter ever sent
Omg there inventing scam spam emails😂
Here after episode 62
*oh god oh fuck*
"I don't know which way he swings..."
Well, now we know.
1:50 to relive the meltdown
Came back to watch during the break of tonight's episode. Bless you for preserving this clip
everyones going crazy about how liam/caleb is reacting to this scene but for my money i like to watch how Tal reacts to any of these situations he usually knows who to watch and reacts amazingly most of the time
Taliesin's face when nott says she doesn't know which way caleb swings is priceless
someone to look into Nigeria and find a person called Leonard-Leonard, he might be in danger.
Thumbs up if you came here after the most recent episode...
7:25 Travis's face is a delight to watch during all this nonsense XD
So I couldn’t find a spell that would track them from the letter unless I missed a spell I went through the divination section on DNDB so the letter wouldn’t track them but remind them that Caleb is alive
what about scrying? wouldn't that letter make it easier to scry on them?
The letter doesn't even mention Caleb, it's just bad SPAM
Jonathan Hamilton
Scry can find jester since it is a special item.
Needs a good roll and a heavy spell caster
Honestly my favorite part is Matt explaining how he knows the difference between sealing wax and candle wax. I have also make that error.
I want to see how Astrid reacted to that sooo badly lmao
*Spoiler C2E62

Hi actually my name is Astrid i'm french nice to meet all of you
Paused ep. 85 just to re watch this...
I still really hope this pays off, they've been gone so so long.
Watching these to fill the void in my heart that so long without The Mighty Nein has left
Matt: "So. There is a a difference between candle wax and sealing wax. How do I know?"
Looks at camera
"Cause I've made that mistake before, in previous D&D campaigns."
🤣
My names Astrid...
that facepalm yummy
Hey, I’m back now because this came up again in episode 62 so don’t mind me, just fact checking here 👀
Ms. Lavorre, and Nott&Brave agency....
Oh Jester.... oh Nott..... y’all fucked up big time 😂
Give them another 31 episodes to have a backlash....
SPOILER ALERT
31 episodes and eight months later...you know why you're here
Well, fjuck...
Liam's face says it all. He is trying soooo hard not to meta game.
So what happened to the letter?
Is this ever gonna come back?
Possibly, but only when they get back to Zadash
If the party makes it back to the Pillow Trove hotel in Zadash. They've been outside the Dwendalian Empire for a long, long while now.
I wanted Caleb to end up with Molly though ☹️
