  • We tackle one of the biggest projects on our list-replacing the engine mounts underneath our 300 lb. engine!
With guidance from Ricky, the mechanic at Green Cove Springs Marina with 40+ years of experience and help from the "jaws of life," we figure out an easier (and more affordable) way of doing the job.
We also check off some other overdue projects, like replacing our Cutlass Bearing, brightwork, bottom paint touchups, and Hope gets new lettering!
Special thanks to Jacksonville-based band, SUNBEARS!, for their music in this video. You can find more of their music at sunbears.bandc....
Did you enjoy the video? If so, please give it a 👍🏽 and consider subscribing. It helps us out a lot!
Thanks, y’all, and hope you’ll join us for whatever mischief we get ourselves into next time.
    Cheers,
Esther and Michael and Hope Crew

Getting ready to do the same on our 4JH2-HTE. Two 150’s and two 200’s. Thanks for sharing. We have to find a lift like that

I concur with the comment suggesting the 15/16" crowfoot wrench! That coupled with a 15/16" deep well socket with some universals and LONG extensions are also very helpful. Metric gear wrenches/ratcheting wrenches in 18mm, 17 mm, 15 mm, 14mm. The other HUGE tip I used was to get a basketball and a foot air pump. Deflate the basketball, put it between the stringers under the engine and inflate it to take the load off of the motor mounts. The basketball trick saved me tons of time!!!

We really appreciate the advice and I've made note of these tools for a future order! Anything to make these projects go more smoothly. 😅Thank you!

The basketball tip is a great idea, nice and soft and won't damage metal on contact. Just like the air inflation bags the do for 4x4 tyre changes in the outback....not that we have outback in the UK but I've seen then used in aus, usa and s africa

A captain shared the basketball tip with us, and I totally thought it was a joke. Good to know it's a real thing! 😆

Consider buying a 15/16 crowsfoot wrench for the big nuts on the motor mounts

Yeah, we feel you. 😅 It's a difficult job but worth it. Is there a forum for the builder of your boat? We've definitely found some helpful tips on the Island Packet. Wishing you luck with your boat projects and thanks for watching!

Agreed on all accounts and Michael's been practicing the happy dance, but he doesn't think he's improving. 😜

I was told you should replace engine mounts with the boat in the water, not on the hard. Older boats are flexible so with the boat in the water and completing alignment in the water, it will remain true. Aligning the engine while on jacks will no longer be aligned once back in the water. Just parroting what the mechanic at Specialized Mechanical Services told me.

Would of been nice if you had some tighter shots with good lighting.

DSince you removed and replaced the engine brackets, have you had any trouble with them? A mechanic friend was skeptical. I love the idea.

Hey Steve, Yanmar mounts are a serviceable item and we replaced ours with Yanmar OEM mounts. And since swapping them out, we've noticed that the engine is less rattle-y after this swap. No trouble with them since. :)

I am considering tackling this project on our C&C Landfall-38 as we find our Yanmar loud and it vibrates the boat like crazy. Did you find this quieted your boat or lessened vibrations while motoring?

    • @estherl8731
      @estherl8731 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes, we noticed less rattling, but soundproofing the engine compartment quieted the boat more than anything, so much so, that our cat just sleeps while the engine is running (she was noticeably nervous before).
