Well, I have a Shimano 6800 on my Specialized Tarmac 2016, works great, except for the front derailleur, the angle makes for tot shifting, I mean, no bad but NOTHING compared to the r8000!! It feels smooth, softer to shift, besides other great features withe cable tuck, and high low screws to adjust chain gaps. Overall the r8000 wins hands down... As for the thre rear derailleur r8000 GS medium cage, can take 11/28t to 11/34t. And as smooth as butter! Well placed in an inside position, because if you ever lay it in a crash it is much more protected, as seem in this short but helpful video... Everything on a bike is a personal choice. I was happy with the 6800, but much happier with the r8000. Long 75-100 rides are so satisfying. There's NOTHING like doing some training, on a long ride with absolutely butter smooth shifting and performance on one's road bike, better than sex... ok, I take that back...only serious riders will understand though... I'm having a steel bike built and unsure whether to go for the 6800 or R8000. There seem to have been a few complaints about the 6800 crankset cracking, but I'm unsure if they have sorted out this issue with the R8000.
Do you find the R8000 rear derailleur cage is much lower than the 6800 when in the big rear sprocket? It looks much lower from the video. I run a mini-velo with 20" wheels and the latest MTB style rear derailleurs run very low and close to the tyre. I run a max 25T in the rear. Thanks for the heads up on the front derailleur!
Hi there, The 8000 rear mech is a fair bit lower to the ground than the older 6800.... i would say you would want to stick with what you have for now :)
When replacing brake shoes on the 6800, I ordered BR-6800 brake shoe set, but a BR-R8000 brake shoe set was delivered instead even though my invoice said BR-6800. Are the BR-R8000 brake shoes better than the BR-6800’s?

i Have been looking at the Canyon endurance 8.0 AL but can't decide weather to get disc or rim brake . The frame is not as light as the caad 12 frame but the value for money is great. $ 2200 for rim ( both including shipping ) and the disc $2800. The rim brake is looking more enticing a $ 600 price difference to get disc brakes. Could even get the 105 version for $1800 but like the new ultegra hey. Ill probably spend less now, see what the rim brakes are like and in a few year get the cadd 12 dura ace disc when there is a nicer colour :)

Hi Joe! is it possible to run a RD r8000 with a 6800 front mech without buying the r8000 front mech? I want to fit a larger cassette on my caad 12 so need the GS derailleur.

As I manage to get it they then release a new upgrade in the hope you will look at what you have and think I need this. My 6700 on my Giant is no worse than the 6800 on my cannondale just less gearing options.

They are pretty much the same, They are just basic OEM pads
Looking to upgrade my ultegra 6700. Is it worth paying an extra $150 for the r8000? Or should i just buy the the 6800? Cheers.

Hi there, There is abit more grip on the R8000 design hood in the wet over the 6800, but overall they are both as comfortable as each other

I have a bianchi sempre pro and my groupset is ultegra 6800 except the crankset is fsa gossamer. Will the ultegra r8000 crankset fit on that?

So no real difference. I think I'll stick with 6800
if you already have it then no there is no need to upgrade but if your upgrading to ultegra r8000 is where its at
