  • Have you ever wondered what it is like on a cruise or a cruise to Alaska? In this video, I take you with me cruising on the Emerald Princess as we sail Alaska with our first stop in Ketchikan Alaska.
    The first cruise port on the cruise was Ketchikan Alaska. I explored downtown Ketchikan and Creek Street to view the salmon swimming upstream. There were thousands of salmon. Ketchikan was a cute town and I was lucky to visit on a day with sunshine. It is one of the rainiest cities in North America!
    During the cruise, there is lots of untouched wilderness and beauty to view right from the ship - icebergs, glaciers, mountains full of evergreen trees and more. If you love nature and scenic cruising, this is a good cruise for you!

    Been to Alaska many times, but none on a Cruise ship. Been to many places that a Cruise Ship will never go, such as Adak, and Kiska. But I also been in some of the roughest seas. Loved Alaska, but my body would not like the climate now.

    Treating my awesome wife to our first cruise after my second retirement just around the corner. Any recommendations on a cruise line covering Alaska whale watching? Great video series. Subscribed. Cheers!

    • @LittleBirdieTravel
      @LittleBirdieTravel  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Early Congratulations on retirement! What a great treat for you and your wife.... As far as whale watching, your best bet is to plan whale tour excursions at the cruise ports. When I was in Juneau, my friends saw Killer Whales during their whale watch tour which sounds amazing. Too bad I didn't go with them! LOL. I would have love to have seen that!
      On the cruise ships, you are sort of at the luck of nature to see whales and have to stay on the look out because you never know when they will appear. Early mornings are the best time to see whales usually.
      The cruise lines often do seminars to learn more about Alaska, glaciers, whales and other related topics. Princess has great service on the Alaska Cruises, although I think Norweigen has better cruise ships. If you want a luxury Alaska cruise, there are definitely more options. If you would like to browse upcoming cruises, feel free to check out my cruise agent website kmiller.cruisesinc.com/travel/HomePage.html
      So glad you enjoyed the series! Thanks for stopping by.

    Looks amazing! Can I ask what month this was and what the weather was like? I'm going on an Alaskan cruise in July. Not sure what clothes to pack.

    • @LittleBirdieTravel
      @LittleBirdieTravel  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Leah. I was there at the end of August. The sunshine in Ketchikan was abnormal as it is the rainiest city in the US, but it was 80 degrees the day I was there! I would suggest bringing things you can layer (for the cold) or take off you get a warm day or two.
      Warm clothes are definitely needed because there will be some very cold days with rain. So, I suggest a winter jacket, sweater, a hat, scarf and maybe even a pair of boots.
      Where are you leaving from? If you are leaving from Seattle, it can get very warm in the summer, so you may see some hot days as you sail out, or as you sail back in. So, just in case, have a few light pieces of clothing too and always remember your swimsuit on vacation :) You may be able to get in the pool if you get a warm day or two at sea.

      Little Birdie Travel thanks so much. That helps a lot! I’m doing a really big trip, starting in Vegas, then heading to Seattle, then to Fairbanks and from there touring through to Vancouver before making my way across Canada to New York. Looks like I’ll need to pack for all seasons. Thanks again for your insight. Much appreciated.

    • @LittleBirdieTravel
      @LittleBirdieTravel  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      exciting! Well considering you will have a trip to many cities where it will be warm that time of year.. perhaps skip the boots. Just keep in mind you may run into some rain in Alaska. I would hate for you to lug the boots to all those cities!

      I really appreciate the suggestion of what you would like to see and will try to do next time. Thank you!

    Planning on a cruise in July. I suffer from
    Motion sickness, can you feel anything while on the ship?

    • @LittleBirdieTravel
      @LittleBirdieTravel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, there is an occasional rocking. I don't suffer from motion sickness but I know people that do and they bring medicine for it. Since you know that you suffer from it, medicine would be a good idea.

    Great video,doing planning now for this summer.Do you think that the smaller ships are a better option then the bigger ie..Carnival NCL ect ???

    • @LittleBirdieTravel
      @LittleBirdieTravel  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Timothy, it all depends on what you like. Big Ships will have more onboard to do for days at sea, but that also means more people and new faces to see.
      If you prefer something more "intimate," then a smaller ship could work out... My preference is the big ships. After many cruises, I like the options that a big ship can offer for days at sea. I will have to admit that for a cruise to Alaska, I mostly relaxed and gazed out the balcony at the beautiful scenery for a majority of the time so the size of the ship didn't matter as much. However, in the evenings when its dark and nothing else to do, its nice to have options for entertainment onboard.
      So, I really don't have a straightforward answer for you. Sorry! But hopefully that bit of insight helps. Just think about what you are looking for and choose from there.

    • @LittleBirdieTravel
      @LittleBirdieTravel  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there! I went in last week Aug/ beginning September... the weather should be good for you for some parts of it. No matter what time of year, you will have some cold days in Alaska so be prepared. Where are you leaving out from? The best days were near Seattle and Victoria BC. I got lucky with the sunshine in Ketchikan. Ketchikan is the rainiest city in the US.

    • @saltydawg896
      @saltydawg896 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      From my experience in Alaska if you do not like the weather, give it 5 minutes It will change. But not sure about the temps though.

  • @coritrottman9699
    @coritrottman9699 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Was it all inclusive? And what is the weather like?

    • @LittleBirdieTravel
      @LittleBirdieTravel  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cori Trottman Cruises are all inclusive. Includes your meals and room and board in the price. Also includes shows and most activities on the ship.
      The weather varies. Warm winter clothes are needed for many days at sea. If leaving from seattle in summer, it will most likely be warm and get colder as you sail close to Alaska.
      Weather is unpredictable. It was 80 degrees in Ketchikan when I went. BUT many days in Ketchikan it is cold and rainy.
      Basically, you have to prepared for anything! Best advice is pack layers of clothes you can take off and layer on to adjust to temperature.

    was the water calm going to Alaska?

    • @LittleBirdieTravel
      @LittleBirdieTravel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I am so sorry I missed seeing this comment months ago!.... Well, I wouldn't say it was "calm" but we didn't reach any rough patches or storms at sea so I think it was fairly smooth sailing as can get in the open seas.

      Hi. The exit port - do you mean where did the cruise sail from and end? It started and ended in Seattle.

    • @LittleBirdieTravel
      @LittleBirdieTravel  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely plenty of photo opportunities so if you have a great camera, for sure bring it!

    • @DaebakMonkey
      @DaebakMonkey 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, the exit port is the port that the ship called from (left from). You guys may have gone past me! I live on Marrowstone Island, which as you leave from Seattle through Admiralty Inlet there is an island (Marrowstone) on the port side, Whidbey Island on the starboard, and Port Townsend on the Port Bow. This is right before you enter the Straight of Juan de Fuca, which is the major channel before you enter the Pacific. Marrowstone in this image is the island on the right on the left of the channel.
