I like most of the AVI-8 watches I see, including this one! I’m with you on the crown…it’s a beauty! Finishing does look nice, and I like the 3D markers. Leather strap has some nice aesthetics too. Good stuff. I like how you’re able to stay objective and still point out all the positives even those this watch didn’t completely speak to you.
Think it’s a Seiko movement because it advances by turning clockwise, miyota if I’m not mistaken advance the time by turning the crown counter clockwise

I’m glad to see sapphire is on this piece and that big crown looks machined and finished pretty nice in those shots! I haven’t worn my aviator watches in a while but I like the look of this one! 😎👍

That crown is something I haven’t had before on a watch, but it’s quite cool. Don’t think it’s quite available to buy until the 29th but the sign up period started today, I think that is the case.
The marking at 12 O'clock is NOT a flag , it is a recreation of the tail marking used on most RAF aircraft in the European theatre during WW2. The reason for the "1" numeral being a different colour is to tie in with No1 Squadron , commemorated on the back of the watch. The watch honours Pilot Officer Auther "Taffy" Clowes , a Hawker Huricane pilot with No1 Squadron , RAF . He flew in the early years of the war and was credited with 11 kills. The latin scrip at the bottom of the dial is the motto of No1 Squadron and translates to "first in all things" The the markings above the date window are a reproduction of fuselage markings of PO Clowes personal aircraft . I am thinking seriously about getting this watch. I love the 3D effect of the dial , and how the lumed indices seem to float in space .
Such an awesome piece, I like it a lot! Love the dial and the indicies, especially how they are fully luminous material. Too bad this watch is too big and doesn’t hack! I’d be interested to hear what movement they’re using and what the retail price is for this. My guess on price is 300$ usd.

It does not specify AUD and you cannot add them to cart to check because they have not released yet. I hope your pricing is right though because I find them very attractive.
This is a pretty badass watch although my skinny wrist probably couldn't pull it off. I mean, I can get away easily with the Arnie because of the Seiko magic. But this is really cool. Nice review!
Great review Joe. I've had my eye on Avi-8 watches for a while but most are just too big for my 6.75in wrist. I agree with your comments about this model. For me, I like the P-51 Mustang a little better with a 43mm case makes it a little more wearable for smaller wrists. Thanks for sharing brother and have a wonderful weekend 👍
Pretty cool. I was thinking...what if they connected the plane to the seconds hand counterbalance by the wing so it looks like its flying in a circle. Maybe paint the portion of the seconds hand that connects to the plane on the counterbalance black and connect the plane by the wing so it looks like it's floating and traveling in the correct direction. I don't know. Maybe it's a stupid idea.
Interesting what Chris discovered about the movement. Not a great look for AVI-8 and I really liked this watch. It pays homage to Royal Air Force pilot Arthur Clowes, who flew a Hawker Hurricane. The letters above the date window were on the fuselage of his plane. Squadron ID Code I think. Great review brother!
That’s not land imprint, it’s the Camo paint from a hurricane, it’s not a French flag, it’s the tail flash of the hurricane. It’s not a bullseye, it’s the RAF symbol!

I like the looks and build quality of this watch. But a Flieger style watch without hacking? Silly choice on the part of AV8 IMO.

I like AVI-8 watches, but some of their models look a little childish or gaudy. I have not seen any in person though. This one is pretty cool.

I was thinking the same as the plane looked like it was caught in a tornado in my time lapse video.

That is not a bullseye....it is a WWII RAF roundel. That is not the flag of France....it is the tail flash on WWII RAF aircraft.
