    The reason the gi top goes right under /left over is because the Samurai had swords mounted on the the left side of the body and if the right side was not tucked under the gi would open when drawing the sword....

    • @Arkhael666
      @Arkhael666 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The right under left is when you were dressed, it's easier. That form was more likely in women's clothing.

    • @StrainXv
      @StrainXv 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Slight correction, it would be to Keokogi in regards to the Samurai as Samurai were pretty much long gone at the advent of the Judogi as we know it today. Also, is faux pass as people are buried in traditional clothing with the right over left.

    Excellent video showing the different methods of tying the belt! I personally have been taught to tie it, being single layered as in no crossing, between the upper and lower parts of the belts at the back. Since our belts are embroidered with the name of our style, as well as our own name, the flap with the name of our style organisation, goes on the right side. While on the left side the flap with the individual's name along with the dan bars, go on the left side, when the belt has been tied up. I have a question for you if I may, I noticed that ISAMI one of the belts and gi manufacturers in Japan, posted a video on TH-cam, of the belts they make and embroid, for various martial artists, of different styles.
    I noticed that a few Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belts, had their belts embroidered with the word jiu-jitsu in Japanese characters on one side, along with their names with the Roman alphabet, while their dan bars embroidered in white, with the red patch like yours. What is your view on that and how recent, do you think this new practice has started? From what I have seen in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, the dans bars, are usually put on by hand with electric type pieces. Also names and so forth are not usually embroidered on the belt, such as yours. Just asking out of curiosity that is all. Great informative and instructional videos from you, as always! 👍 ☺ ✌

    There's a different reason why you put the left over the right on your gi, the branding is just there to help you. Back in old Japan, they'd wear their kimonos left over right... except if it was worn by a person who got buried, then they'd put it on that person right over left.

    Nice little tip I also notice there are a lot of videos on the care and cleaning of Gis, rash guards and other items wore when training. I think there is a lot of unnecessary steps thrown in so it would be interesting to hear/ see your methods. Also would like for you to include the steps you take in cleaning the facilities to prevent illnesses.

    Ryan- I just found this video and I was wondering about a few questions:
    Regarding the gi and belts you mentioned...
    Where can I get a Hemp/Bamboo gi and belt?
    Can you order oversized Gis? I seem to only find A5s and being a bit larger both in the shoulders and hips, I think an A6 would fit better but no one has them...
    Any suggestions you have are appreciated and thanks for the videos... they are really making me think more about what I’m doing and trying to accomplish‼️👍🙏😁

    If I wear an A1 gi, should I go with an A1 belt? I find some A1 belts aren’t long enough and the ends don’t naturally hang, they more or less point sideways.

    • @KamaJiuJitsu
      @KamaJiuJitsu  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      funny you bring that up. i've found that for the A1, it doesn't match up with people who wear an A1 gi. i've found that people who wear A2 gi will wear an A2 belt. bigger guys, A3 and A4 belts. rarely, have i given out an A5 belt. but yes, i'm an A1, but i wear an A2 belt.

    About closing the front of the gi left over right...
    Here in the west, women wear their clothing fronts right over left and men wear them left over right .( You might not have noticed this , but just take a look at a womans button shirt and you will see what I mean). This is made so because men used to dress up all by themselves while women often needed help from a maid to dress up, and it is easier to button someone elses clothing if the the buttons and buttonholes are placed inverted ( compared to mens clothing). But in Japan both genders wear their traditional clothing with the left front over the right. And as a side note ,in Japan, only a corpse wears the kimono fronts right over left.( I really don´t know if that part is true, but that is what I heard)

    • @SAVAGECombatives
      @SAVAGECombatives 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      darta69 I knew several Japanese female judoka that wore their go right over left. They said traditionally that’s how women wore kimono.

      You can grab that putter later while rolling and give it a sharp tug. It squeezes the inner part around the person...very uncomfortable. It happens in Judo when people tie their belts incorrectly.

    Did you just kick the sacred cow! Wash you belt... NO! All you knowledge is in the belt... If that were the case then I could put a higher rank belt on and be better, right. Yes I know you never put a higher rank belt on also. A lot of superstition in the martial art's, lot of tradition too, but that's not always a bad thing in a lot of cases. From a Christian perspective there are a bunch of things I wont do.
    Like you videos, keep it up.
