An insulated glass unit (IGU) combines multiple glass panes into a single-window system. Most IGUs are double glazed (two panes of glass) with three panes (triple glazing) or more becoming more common due to higher energy costs. The panes of glass in IGUs are separated by a spacer and a still layer of air or gas. The glass is then fitted into window frames, which is made wider to accommodate the two panes.
The benefits of double glazing
Double glazed windows are an ideal energy efficient choice with the added benefit of minimising noise. The sealed air gap between the two panes acts as an added layer of insulation. This added thermal resistance reduces the amount of heat escaping in winter and keeps your home at a more comfortable temperature. Double glazing has the reverse effect in summer, preventing unwanted heat from coming into the home. This extra insulation lessens your reliance on artificial heaters and air conditioners and can ultimately reduce your energy costs.
When you are close to a window, your comfort is also affected by the temperature of the glass. With double glazing it’s harder for the unwanted outside temperature to transfer through, leaving the inside pane close to room temperature. Double glazing also reduces condensation which can result in the unhealthy formation of mould.
Sealed double glazing is effective at reducing medium to high frequency noise such as the human voice. A difference in glass thickness between the inner and outer panes will improve sound reduction even further.
Double glazed windows are considered a safer option when compared to standard single pane windows. Two sheets of glass are a lot harder to break than one and for even greater security you can specify toughened or laminated glass.

You miss one point that argon gas used can also maintain room tempreture i.e outer heat or cold cant enter inside and room temperaeture is maintained

I have a question, I stay in a flat in area where we are exposed to very loud and thumping sound from dolby soundwall for many days of year. Can soundproof glasses cut down these high volume music sounds? I understand it can't drop them to 0%, what can we expect w.r.t drop in decible levels with soundproofing solutions?

Hi thanks for ur effort on same. so my question is when it is factory made then what will happen if molecular sieves reaches a saturation point? it might hapen after some years, especially where indoor n outdoor temp are drasticlaly different.
It will only happen if the dessiccant is kept in open before using it in making DGU
I think he misunderstood your concern, well the space is left by few mm so that the silicon will make it airtight, the molecule will trap all the moisture from the air with the glass left in if during the assembly. They will serve their purpose until the seal is uncompromised.

Please if you can share more information on different gases used to fill gap between two planes, and how hand made Double glass pane is manufactured, it will be huge help. I understand from your video that handmade glass pane may not be as efficient as factory made because of human error, but my interest is in experimentation and exploring alternatives, So...
I am trying to build an Enclosure for my 3D Printer. I understand, information you shared are relevant for window panes, but I am trying to achieve same kind of result with this 3D Printer enclosure where my room atmosphere does not effect printer or vice versa. I am aiming for a see through chamber with Least noise, Temperature Control, Contain fumes, most importantly this is going to be a Heated chamber for printer which should contain around 90 degree Celsius temp, for weeks of Continues printing.

what type of glass can be used indoor for courtyard . to close it like compartment.
area of courtyard is about 12x10 ft
no need of sound proofing .
but temperature in winters goes upto 5 degree. amd 3 month rainfall . city dehradun .
Well if temperature is your concern , you can go for a 19mm or 24mm Thick Double Glazed Glass , which will easily endure that type of weather.

@@user-qf1qx4hj4k sir air at low temperature loose its capacity to hold moisture and hence condensation occurs. Condensation on the surface of glass either outside or inside doesn't mean that the glass has some defect , if condensation occurs between the 2 glasses then there is a problem in the glass.

@@jitendravyas like it is explained first you need to check the thickness of your window and the select the glass thickness and the spacers as per the requirement. I'm not sure i'm just guessing for outer glass take 5 m , add 5 mm for the spacers and add 4mm for inner glass. So if your window thickness is more than 14 mm i think you can use it.
