    About Trailmakers:
    In the toughest motoring expedition in the universe, you and your friends will build your own vehicles to cross a dangerous wasteland. Explore, crash horribly, use your wits to build a better rig, and get as far as you can with whatever spare parts you find on your way.
    Welcome to the Ultimate Expedition!
    Journey over grueling mountains, hazardous swamps, and bone-dry deserts on a distant world far from civilization - it is just you, your fellow adventurers and the amazing, jet-powered hover-buggy you built yourself. Explore, crash your vehicle, build a better one, and get as far as you can with whatever spare parts you find along your way.
    Trailmakers is about building very awesome vehicles and machines, but you don’t need an engineering degree to get started. The intuitive builder will get you going in no time. Everything you build is made from physical building blocks. Each block has unique features like shape, weight and functionality. They can be broken off, refitted and used to build something new. Individually the blocks are fairly simple, but combined the possibilities are endless.
    Expedition Mode is the challenging campaign mode of Trailmakers. You are competing in an off-world rally expedition with only a few building blocks to get you started. You must build, tinker with and rebuild your machine to progress. Journey through a big world, overcome deep gorges, angry wildlife and dangerous weather to progress and find new parts that will juice up your machine. The world in Expedition Mode will test your survival skills and ingenuity.
    Sandbox Mode is where you want to head for an unrestricted, sandbox, vehicle-building experience. Here you can build anything you can dream of, and play around with it in the world of Trailmakers. It is a great place to test out crazy machines, and experiment with the physics engine. With tons of different blocks, hinges, thrusters and interactive vehicle parts - the skybox is the limit.
    Trailmakers is even more fun if you play it with other people. Build cool vehicles and compete in mini-game modes with your friends or other Trailmakers online. Build a helicopter, send it to your friend, and shoot them out of the sky. Put two seats on a tank, and let your friend control the turret. As we get further in Early Access development Expedition Mode will also be adapted to multiplayer.

      @@faremir the only surprising thing is that the servos are fast enough for this if you think about it. The physics engine just has a basic value for aerodynamic objects facing a certain way, which means if it's a cube it cancels out, but wings just get lift from under it, based on speed. So it's basically the same as air drag, but it's not. The logic in the creation checks out completely after all. But the upside down situation did still take me by surprise for a few seconds...

    the reason why it turns left by itself is on 22:32. left and right rotors are not spin in the same phase, they have angle difference. the thing is that you control it by changing blade andge, which are also has auto control depending of the where the blade is. the angle difference betwin left and right rotors gives you non-equal amout of lift left and right side.

    That thing is amazing! I do have one tip though - you can counteract the torque of a helicopter engine by putting it on a spinning servo with no controls assigned. The spinning servo spins freely, so when the heli engine applies torque it counterrotates to absorb it.

    • @Steve-sp4rx
      @Steve-sp4rx 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@quakxy_dukx I do now.. Wonder how it handles an emergency like losing engine power vs a normal helicopter. Helos have no problem maintaining enough rotation during fall to land safely no matter your elevation if you completely lose engine power. Wonder if this is as capable. The video by CycloTech says it is light enough to glide...but you'd still need enough forward momentum prior to losing engine power to achieve gliding, I'd think. Looks cool though. People are so creative.

    • @tropicalvikingcreations
      @tropicalvikingcreations 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Steve-sp4rx you can also sorta see it in Scrapman video to but as long as the blades are still spinning you will get an increased glide. However you will also still get a slightly weaker glide once the wings slow down and with time and wind running over the blades they start auto spinning again like a windmill.
      So an auto cushioning effect could probably be designed into one but most larger investigations into this design and it's effects are relatively newer, relative to other designs that were known before the 2000s.

    • @Steve-sp4rx
      @Steve-sp4rx 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tropicalvikingcreations Ah okay. I kinda figured auto rotation on something like the Cyclorotor would be hard to achieve, seeing that the smaller blades would need to be spinning at a higher rate than the much larger blade of a helicopter to create an equivalent amount of lift. Helos are a lot heavier, I imagine. I'm not specifically educated on the subject so I appreciate your input.

    That is… Wow, just… Wow!
    In my Opinion Cyclocopters are maybe the most complicated way to make a plane fly, but has quite some advantages over the Helicopter. iE. it needs less space to start/land/hover and higher possible lift.
    Disadvantages are that, in the case of an engine failure, it doesn't keep on flying. Unlike Helis or Autogyros, Cyclocopters don't have autogyro capabilities and as its not a plane, so no wings to glide. And straf has to be accomplish with a 5th(or6th) rotor solely for strafing.
    Although it can be combined with wings, were the Cyclocopter parts provide VTOL, forward thrust& part of the lift in flight and as such it makes a smaller form factor for the plane possible.
    There are already Demonstrators with&without wings build out there. Some the size of a Van and with (theoretical)6 passengers possible. But sadly only tethered flights have taken place up until today.
    At least to my little knowledge of going down a rabbit hole search on google and company websites

    Okay, but this is a genuinely good quote, sounds like something you'd see a some scientist say in the 1800s

    Would love to see you take a crack at this in Scrap Mechanic and Main Assembly, just to see what kind of unique challenges the different build systems and physics engines present for this design concept.

    This is certainly one of the funkiest aircraft you've built so far in this series.

    You should do a challenge to make something like this but you build one with the real life counterpart and another one with game made one (useable)

    @ 22:32 you can see that the right/left rear cycloprop is turning at a different speed to its mirror. Thats probably what was causing the instability

    You should ask Kan and see if he would collaborate with you as he is really good with logic. Plus a collaboration build or PVP with something like this might be really cool

    suggestion, inivate your own out of the box design for flight in trailmakers. using some really strange or interesting methods.

    for what it looks; you could build on a square grid with the second block 1 to the left then rotate the bottom blade 180 degrees; seems like it would make everything fit.

    The "real" cyclocopter's control thing you replaced with angle sensors, that's based on user input and thus the pitch of the craft itself. Your angle sensors basically ignore the pitch of the craft, hence still flying at like 20:54. Regardless, you've got it working and should be proud of doing something that's not allowed in the game engine.

    I’ve seen you, Kan and Cosmo do battles before, and there was one specific video, where you would all use a flying thing at a chosen altitude. You made like a box with a simple cannon on the front, so you could aim easily in first person view.
    I was wondering, if you would consider making a fighter jet with the ability to stay still in the air, just like your flying box thing?

    You should glitch hunt, where you search the workshop for game-breaking glitches and attempt to break the game with a glitch vehicles, and combine not very used mechanics that may have cool glitches.

    there is a plane using a similar technology to move, it's incorporated into the wing and gives both thrust and lift. they are called cyclo rotor aeroplanes, and they are quite interesting.
    Gyrocopters are also quite interesting, they are very similar to helicopter, but their rotor doesn't need to be powered as a smaller propellar will give them forward momentum, their rotor spinning as a result and producing lift purely through the vehicle moving forward.

    This is really easy to program in real life with real electronics, tbh. You can even make it so it can stay in one place by itself without touching anything

  • @nighpaw4651
    @nighpaw4651 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    you should attempt to make a Flight Control System (FCS) which automatically adjusts pitch of the wing parts (whether for this or something else) to keep the aircraft steady without human input
