Living in Tallahassee all my life, even getting a glimpse of the GOAT was special. I was a student at FSU during the 90s and remember being a Lady Scalphunter and being at an event and waiting for the elevator; the doors open and there he was! Mouth. Dropped. To. The. Floor! Took all I had in me to get him to sign my vest that day. Turned out later in life, I would live down the street from him in Killearn. Seeing him in his robe and slippers dragging the trash can was epic. Loved how you could drop anything off at his house, he would sign it, and leave for you to pick up. A piece of Tallahassee and FSU died the day he passed away. The tribute to hm at the Notre Dame game this past season was incredible!! Not a dry eye the entire game. Thank you for this video and can’t wait to see what the family creates for his headstone.
Such a great coach, leader and human. Helped so many young men become something they would not have without him. He is & will be missed for as long as there are people who remember him. He is one of the few that left the world a much better place. God Bless Mrs. Ann
I am a devout Gator fan. But Bobby Bowden in my opinion is the greatest college football coach that ever stalked the sidelines. For me to say that just proves the affect he had on people, not just players. He was genuine and pure. Had the hypnotic ability to sit on living room couches anywhere and convince innumerable Moma’s that he would not only watch after their boy, have him in church every week but turn him into a man before it was over. Me and my buddie John Brown went to the summer of 84 Bobby Bowden football camp. Best time ever. John played for him for 4 years as offensive tackle. Bobby was the best.
I was a student from 94-98. His office was always open, even if he wasn't there. I went up to visit him twice. I never met him, but the fact that he allowed us access blew me away.

When I went to Egypt in the late 80’s I saw those Sphinxes! You talk about some awesome and humongous burial sites! Them jokers are out of this world. It would be awesome to see Back Roads do a video on the pyramids in Egypt; but, there is to much unrest over there right now. Not safe!
I live like 10 minutes from Trussville, a lot of family buried there. I had no idea he was buried there, I'll go and pay my respects. My wife's dad is buried there on the gun range side, looks like he is close to that
Great story about an Alabama legend. He shaped Florida State into a powerhouse program. Him and Steve Spurrier competed for years for the nations best athletes. Them and Miami dominated the college football landscape for 2 decades until Nick Saban came to Alabama.
The Ground has to settle about a year before a Fondation Can be poured for the Head stone . Then the head stone is set in place . I'm sure his family cares deeply for him you have to let the ground settle . RIP Bobby Bowden you're a good Christian and a Great coach !

Coach Bowden is the reason I became a FSU fan. When they lost FSU that is on Thursday night to Virginia. They needed a TD to win and the on last play from 3-4 yds out FSU called a draw. They were stopped on the 1 inch line but I thought anyone with the balls to call a draw with the game on the line is my kind of coach as chessy as it sounds. Rest easy Coach
Bobby Bowden was a great coach and a great man. But I think you're talking about the direct snap to Warrick Dunn in 1995. That play call was actually made by offensive coordinator Mark Richt, not by Bowden.

My mother passed away from pancreatic cancer a little over three months ago. It's a terrible disease. Shouldn't Coach Bowden have a headstone by now? How disrespectful! University of Florida lost a few games to Florida State during Coach Bowdens reign.
True. I did not like Jameis Winston, but that offense in 2013 was pretty amazing. Jimbo ran it into the ground after that Bama game where the QB broke his leg. Also, FSU was like 0-11 and 1-10 in the few years just before Bobby. My dad sold tickets at the stadium then so we went and sat in the end zone through all those losses. Hardly anyone was there and it got cold! Bobby's first skill player was Larry Key. Then, Big Bad Ron from Georgia on defense. Bobby and Bernie Sliger, the FSU president when I went there, did some songs together and an entire musical album was published. Of course, in 1987 or 88 the team came out with the Seminole Rap before the first game (Miami), when they were preseason #1. Bobby was so mad, but it was hilarious. Got beat like 31-0 or so, then won the rest of our games, but I think Miami went on to the NC. Would have loved a rematch at the end of that season.
Some folks already set their headstones a years in advance so win they are buried there is no delay in setting a headstone. Some folks chose to be cremated. I learned from my spiritual leaders that is not biblical to be cremated even though folks have been doing the last 120 to 130 years.
A losing record to every cane coach with a NC. Count em, 4. 2-3 in NC games. Sept 89, he has a choice, join the SEC or ACC. And the rest is history and we know why. Funny man though.
Also had the most consecutive top 5 teams in history and the longest bowl winning streak in NCAA history. I knew Deion would go to the funeral. Bobby always said Deion was the best pure athlete he ever had. Mickey Andrews, the defensive coordinator, said Deion practiced harder than anyone. That's why we loved Deion at FSU. He walked the talk. Our favorite game was really two games. In 1993-94, Danny Kanell brought FSU back to a 31-31 tie with UF after being behind 31-3 with about 14 minutes left in the game (The Choke at Doak). We had 50 yard line seats that year. Both UF and FSU played the fifth quarter in the French quarter at the Sugar bowl and FSU finished the job. The drive back on I-10 passing all those UF fans was priceless. Most fun loss was playing Vinny Testaverde in a night game. We would get them into 3rd and 30 situations repeatedly and that guy would complete a long pass. Gutsiest play had to be the puntrooski against Clemson. Also, Steve Spurrier never won a game in Tallahassee. 1981 was the year Bobby became the King of the Road beating Michigan, Ohio State, LSU, Florida and others on the road. Craziest game to me was in a monsoon played at LSU with Casey Weldon and Brad Johnson at quarterback in 1991. FSU was undefeated at the time and lost several key players including two offensive linemen including the center for the season one week before FSU had to play Miami and UF back to back. Although FSU beat LSU that night, the injuries were too much and we lost both of the last two games by just a few points. Wide right one was the Miami loss. Casey Weldon's shoe came off and he had to down the ball in one of the last plays. Then, in the UF game, I believe the loss was 14-9 and Weldon had bandages all over him by the end. That was the gutsiest team that didn't win it all. I remember Bobby and FSU played Alabama early in his stint, maybe in 78-79 or so. FSU barely lost, but Bobby put the fear of God in Alabama in that game with his great offensive mind. I remember it being said by their coach that they would never play FSU again and they didn't until long after that coach was gone. We miss you Bobby. You were a great person as well as a great coach. We love Mickey Andrews as well for his great defenses during this era.
