I feel like hand axe is a potential A or S tier for the sole fact that it fits on a belt. You can chop through doors, gather wood, and have a decent bladed weapon in an incredibly small package. The soft factors are what makes this weapon
Its also probably one of the best one handed weapons, so if you have a lot of loot on you so you gotta use two bags its great to have it. And as already mentioned with some levels in it, its pretty comparable to the standard axe
IMO spiked bat should be S tier because of how easy it is to repair and still considered a blunt weapon its an amazing weapon to use if you have high blunt skill with a bonus damage thanks to the nails. Just have some nails ready for repair and have a back up blunt weapon like a baton or a pipe wrench in case you ran out of durability or found a zombie with clothes that you want.
Later on when rare zombies start to spawn with unique clothing and armour, spiked bat would cause damage to the armour. For winter, it would also be important to get clothing from zombies to keep warm that you don't want to damage.
LoL, on a server someone with an spiked bat was attacking me and I had a snow shovel and, he didnt even touch me an i killed him! (Also he had good armor, military boots, bulletproof vest and a helmet and more!)
@@EnycmaPie if you see a special zombie with interesting clothing you can switch to a hammer and not damage it that way. With this approach would you take all the other sharp weapons off of the S tier? I wouldn't, I think in majority of the cases you don't worry about condition of their clothes. Most of the time they will only have digital watches, earbuds, medicine and a weapon jammed inside them from time to time. For warm clothing you are better off looting until you find Padded jacket and pants and/or winter hat, Long johns and whatever else. Preserving clothes on zombies is only relevant early on, if you prefer the armor over the speed and looks of your character and later on you can tell when zombies wear something special if you pay attention a little bit. Most of the time I'd be using regular bat anyway, because I believe with 9-10 strength and high enough skill in long blunt you will be killing zombies in one hit even with basic baseball bat, which I believe has better durability than the one with nails. I still agree with nailed bat not being S tier. I think none other Long blunt is as good as the Crowbar, apart from double bladed Canoe paddle and maybe even the Shovel, if you find enough of them you can use them as weapons. They got better damage, better range and faster swinging recovery than crowbar or baseball bat so in terms of DPS they are far superior, although with much less durable so less efficient, more effective. Overall crowbar will be your overall best suited weapon as well as tool for gathering flooring, but good to know there are in fact more effective alternatives not mentioned here. I think weapons having other uses is no reason to rank them lower. It means that it's a versatile tool and one less thing to take up precious space in your inventory.
I suppose something like three metal bars or metal pipes, a kitchen or survival knife and full set of welding equipment (including welding rods) would make sense for making a metal spear, probably put it at a respectably high metalworking skill too since a spear with real durability would be such a good weapon.

I'm fairly certain that you're mistaken on certain weapons not being able to break down trees. What they can't do is the "Cut Down Tree" right click menu option. Take some weapons out to a tree some time and just whale away, there's some interesting results. :)
@@ianfan426 best weapon for cutting a tree down that isnt an Axe are meat cleavers it makes 15 damages per hit. (same damage like an handaxe) and its very comon to find in zombeys.
fireaxe just deserves S tier, such a good weapon, incredibly easy to level up, good swing speed, 1-2 hits to kill tough zombies, and pretty easy to find Edit: Oh and yeah if you play fireaxe and multi hit, enjoy being the doomslayer
Honestly cheaply too I feel like end game the only viable melee is a baseball bat (either variant), a crowbar, any axe , sledgehammer, any hammer, katana, machete, pipes, pipe wrenches, shovels, hunting knife, garden fork, and cleaver any thing else is Honestly just not going to hold up in one way or another as long as you're using any of those tho you'll have a decent ability to kill zombies without having to constantly get new weapons
Hand axe could go in A-tier below regular axe. Sure it doesn't have the same raw power, but it's lighter, faster, and leaves you with a free hand for an extra loot bag and it fits on your belt instead of your back. Also, because it is so much slower at chopping trees, you are less inclined to preserve them for that purpose.
I feel like you forgot to take into account weapon weight as it affects exertion per swing, also weapons perform better in different settings (sprinters or multi hit change the game up a lot!). Other than that great video I did enjoy it :D
I also feel like having to equip a weapon in your back is a big downside if you like to have a backpack on you. sure you can grab it with your left hand but that means you can't jump high fences as fast since you'd need to either unequip it or drop it. Just for that i'd say a lot of the weapons in this list are ranked too highly when taking functionality into account.

I once found a katana. I then proceeded to die to the next horde of zombies without even getting a chance to swing the darn thing. I still have yet to use a katana.
Correction: The Pickaxe also can chop down trees, even at the same speed as the Axe! It just doesn't show "Chop down tree" in the right click menu. It actually does higher damage, too, so you should save it for combat either way.
Axe is better at chopping trees, as it has a higher "base durability", which is equal to the amount of hits it deals on average before breaking from max condition, although in terms of damage to trees and doors, they are identical.
You got something wrong, the shovel can be as good as a baseball bat or even better. Same category, good damage, the swing speed is really good, and can hit up to 3 zombies, so it is technically almost better than the bat
Shovels don't have as much durability as bats. Also you're talking about with multihit on, and while I do play with it a lot of people do not. Zombie for zombie, durability and damage and ability to repair and eventually be turned into a spiked bat make the bat easily superior to a shovel overall.
@@RomulessI Yeah, the bat and spiked bat are no doubt better weapons in my opinion, but even with the lower durability I'd also argue the shovel is better than examples ahead of it in this tier list like the lead pipe, metal rod, handaxe, hammer etc. I mean, I value durability quite a lot myself, but not to the point of disregarding a marked advantage in damage, reach, knockback and knockdown, with effectively the same or similar swing speed.
Found two Katanas and a machete with plenty of other weapons in a survivor house. As a beginner it is completely game changing have a surplus of powerful weaponry.
Very good rating, mostly fair with what i think about the game. But ... Spear with Machete is definitely an S tier, as long as it still resets the number of repairs on the Machete when it turns into a spear. Also, please rate the Spear with (any) knife based on its true potential, not based on the low level carp/maintenance. Just as you would probably rate the Rifles based on decent Aim skill, not level 1 Aim. Other than that, seems fair enough.

As a new player, this is very insightful. It's just as important (perhaps more) to know what weapons to avoid, as it is to know which ones you want to find.
The lead pipe in my opinion is a high A maybe S tier just because of how many you can find and there durability is amazing allowing you to not use your better weapons durability.
About the knife insta kill, you can do it basically at anytime as long as you push and walk right in the zombies face or if timed correctly, which is why I would mark hunting knife atleast a or high B or low A
@@susl1kk199 knives use pretty much zero stamina, if there is no multihit and you are good enough to not get grabbed then there is no reason not to use hunting knives, also good for army rp if you like that.
I’ll never forget the time I found a machete in my second house then tripped an alarm on the third and got instantly swarmed, only got to take down like 3 with the thing before I came across the hoard
I came here after my latest playthrough where the game trolled the shit out of me. Having come off of a crowbar playthrough where that monstrosity was dropping zombies like it was no one's business, I was suddenly in love with the idea of making Long Blunt weapon builds. So what happened, is I started in the trailer court, and I made my way to the next trailer over. Killed and looted some zombies - military boots, nice thick coat, pants, etc, things were looking good. In the trailer I found a fucking black duffel bag - imagine my excitement - as well as a guitar. And I thought "Wow! A guitar Long Blunt weapon! This'll be great!" It wasn't RIP Black Duffel Bag.
I try playing it as close to how I would be in a Zombie situation, in real life, a spear is one of if not THE most effective melee weapon ever made, keeps your enemy at a distance and if you know what you're doing they can be VERY accurate But once things get past your range it gets tricky fast lmao I would definitely rock a spear and machete
A spear would suck in a real zombie apocalypse. A spear is a great zoning weapon which is why it's been great defensively. When you have the reach, your opponent needs to decide if he's safe or not to close in to get in grapple range. Zombies have no fear and will just slide on to your spear. Your spear is only useful for head stabs and it's a very narrow point. You're not pushing zombies away with a spear and you're not using it as a Blunt weapon of they're too close. Half spearing would be pretty awkward and dangerous because humans are afraid of spears so they're hesitant to get stabbed in the spleen but zombies just want your face.

I personally preffer the lead pipe over the baseball bats for durability. As for the night stick I'd have put it at low A tier; I love it just as much as you do, and I'll go out of my way to get them
want to make an argument for a guitar as a weapon.... 1. when would u use it? -usually at the very start of the game as such its a solid b tier, unlike other f tier pots and pans and forks u can use it to kill more than zombie and a half. 2. later on u should find better stuff moving guitars down to c.in a way its similar to a golf club
Cleaver is actually great option for breaking doors down. Against doors, blunt weapons deal 1 to 10 damage, short blade deal 1 to 5. Axes deal the most, being fire axe and pickaxe with 35, wood axe with 55 and handaxe with 20. Cleaver deals 20 damage to doors. That's very close to axe class.
garden fork should be up there w katana, like before pickaxe but after katana. how fast you can swing it is insane, obviously more common than a katana and it’s repairable. it also can 1 shot even if you don’t get the special animation. if there is multi hit enabled you can 1 shot multiple zombies. i found 2 garden forks at the muldragh lumber mill’s warehouses. great weapon, imo i would rate it higher than katana but im also a spear main so i have heavy bias. edit: it gets repaired with carpentry as well. i’m pretty sure this is a bug since crafted spears max health are dynamic with your carpentry level.
I'd swap your axe and handaxe placement, like you said not such a use for trees/wood/etc. Yet quick one handed, plus all the axes are to my knowledge are the only weapon in base game that get a plus up from a profession. So regular, like you have them, but if axeman skilled, all of them go up a tier and pickaxe turns godly.
Stone axe shouldn't be an F. It is the only renewable axe in the game, meaning if you go late game, not only is it the only axe, you'll have high levels in stuff making it an actually good axe too. Maybe a high C

Agree with this list almost 100%. Only variation would be the Metal Pipe, I'd place in high A tier, almost S, above lead pipe. Reason for that is that it's a one handed version of the metal pipe, almost identical range, damage, and durability, but you can hold something else in your off hand. Knightstick is almost identical just with slightly higher damage and durability (S tier weapon for sure).
I've only gotten into the game recently, but in a way, was surprised the guitars were so low. I tried to find something less unwieldy sure, but one of those kept me pretty safe for a good week, knocked zombies around real nice
I would rank the Garden Fork between Crowbar and Pickaxe. It is repairable, which gives it an advantage over things like crowbar, Katana, and Pickaxe, it takes lower stamina to attack than crowbar and pickaxe. If I had a choice between a crowbar and a garden fork (maybe due to weight limits on a looting run), strictly on combat uses, I would pick the garden fork. However, if I saw a pickaxe, I would drop that Fork faster than a toilet zombie getting in a surprise bite..
Spears deserve S tier, easy one shots and good damage when your not, sure they break easily but you can walk into the woods with nothing and comeback with 10+ spears at the end of the day. Most other S tier weapons are good but depend on luck to get but spears are a guarantee and are the best weapon class in the game.
I'm also a nightstick fan. Was mostly because I have been starting in Rosewood so those things are easy to come by and there is no other use for them..
Long weapons cost too much endurance against large horde while also being pretty rare to find, short weapon like Hammer and Hunting Knife can be found pretty easily on zombies, and you can jog around horde at any size all day swinging without ever seeing any exertion moodles.
Until you get scratched because you got 0 range. Ive never had issues with exertion and two handed weapons. The only advantage of one handed weapons is you can carry a flashlight with you for night time exploration
@@svartrbrisingr6141 When you used knife your character do a stab animation with the hand stretched out, not only the range is good but also the speed is fast enough you can just stab them again if you whiffed or didn't kill, you only maybe get scratched if you whiffed twice in a row due bad angle or do a jawstab while swarmed by multiple zombies, which is an error on your part. I killed almost 20k zombies in a MP server in about 30 hours playtimes using mostly Knives. Flashlight isn't that great for horde clearing at night, normally i'll find a car, standing in front of it and fight. Also i found the stab animation is more precise than the swinging animation of many weapons, which got me scratched several times because angle, and looks like the swing should connect but turn out it didn't.
@lolsterxd2350 Not that hard in MP, since you don't need sleep, i also don't have to worry about learning other skills since other people got that cover. Could have killed more if I didn't get bad desync occasionally. But I did get enough carpentry skill to live off on my own, I wasn't planning on going on a zombie rampage at the start, but due to the desync i couldn't travel in car with the others, so mostly i break off solo open map by myself.
Hey, just one thing. Saying an axe having capabilities beyond that of just an OP weapon gets a lower rank because its also useful in other things. That logic makes no sense. Talking about melee weapons number one issue should be combat effectiveness and then drawbacks (brakes easily, sloe swing, too heavy) and additional uses should either not effect the score negatively, or positivly in most circumstances.
So yeah, you put S weapon (fireaxe) into A tier only bc it's also a very good tool. I understand that part about endurance of a tool / weapon but still I see no logic here, even though it's better to only use it as tool, that doesn't mean it's inferior as a weapon by that. ALSO I think it's not that bad of idea to still use it as a weapon bc after all, that game is about surviving as long as possible. So... If with better weapon you have greater chance of staying alive, then why not? Why shouldn't I use it? After all, it's not that hard to obtain alternative tool to fireaxe, even if that alternative will be worse as a tool (and a weapon), that doesn't lower your chance of surviving, only may slow down you a bit in stuff like collecting wood or maybe breaking doors (but in case of doors there're a few better ways of doing it).
I agree that the fireaxe is definitely an S tier weapon. TBH though the reality is if you play with very difficult settings like Koko, and most vet players who have 2000+ hours in the game, you may not be able to find a good alternative to using the fireaxe to chop wood, and so unless I find a wood axe I actually never use it for killing zombies unless I find more than one. I actually would rate hand axes higher as weapons than he did though, since they are able to be put on your belt and used for taking down doors in dangerous situations easily. I agree with his point about axes as tools holding you back from using it as a weapon, but also that it's S tier without a doubt.
@@RomulessI Well after all it's a subjective tier list so anyone can put everything anywhere they want. But still I think the fireaxe is S tier and also I would put spears into A tier bc it's possible to thrust through a fence with them. Well I mostly use spears anyway which are easy to obtain and OP enough especially after leveling up.
Frying pan/saucepan/grittle pan deserves to be s tier soley for the reason that even killing 3k zeds in Louisville won't top the thrill of fighting 12 zombies with a pan on day 1
I always grab a crowbar both because I’ll basically never have to search for a weapon again and as a reference to the Max Brooks Zombie Survival Guide. Definitely my favorite book growing up and probably influenced my interests and personality more than I realize.
Nightsticks are relatively heavy for a single handed weapon. Playing my low fitness/strength builds I skip nightsticks in favor of much lighter knives. Granted on its own its no big deal but once you start carrying a back, two belt, and maybe a holstered weapon or two, every kilo counts
crafted spear & spiked baseball bat are crazy good, both being cheap items, and crafted spears reliably killing zombies even when maximum tiredness, fatigue, etc. whereas spiked baseball bat can last 2x as long as a normal bat if you crack open some nails
The sledgehammer is incredibly fun to use. It has fantastic damage if you can knock down a zombie and hit them while they are down. I would rank it very high, but it has a problem that other weapons don't which definitely brings it down to F tier. Weight. I used it and oh boy, I had to sit down and take a break after every other swing, because it kept exerting me. I used it to clear a horde, and it gave me max exhaustion. TL;DR if you are looking for fun novelty, with instant kills for head hits on downed zombies, but also stupid drawbacks, use the sledgehammer for a bit.
The Guitar might be underrated. It's a long blunt which is rare and it's pretty sturdy actually. though a bit slow for my taste, toils with your emotions.
Everybody underestimates short blade. All of the short blade weapons can be used infinitely at fitness 3 short blade 5. Hand scythe, Meat cleaver and hunting knife all oneshot zombies at skill lvl 4 and are guaranteed to oneshot at lvl 7. Just like spears, the weapons break quite quickly but they're still the best weapon category no doubt about it. Also, the zombies have hunting knives in their bodies so they're infinite. Just remember to sleep in between the 400 zombies that you kill per day.
Spear is a solid S tbh - may break with low skills but can be upgraded - can be crafted EVERYWHERE in unlimited-like amounts - has a one-hit attack - customizable to enhance damage and durability further - other weapons can be "repaired" by putting them on spears - long range and one-hit is REALLY good against sprinters - SPARTIANS, WHAT IS YOUR PROFESSION?! Slept on them for a long time but they are usually my melee that I level first now
The axe is deffinetaly A+ tier or even S tier if you are a lumberjack. As lumberjack the axe has the fastest swing in the game, and it also may kill with 1-3 hits very quickly. It is a very durable weapon, you can kill dozens and dozens of zombies before it get wear. (and it chop trees)
Shovel for normal situations, and to bury the stench. Hammer to tear down/build barricades, or when I'm carrying a 2nd bag. Screw Driver for those sweat sneak attacks, and disassembly. Blades are pretty and powerful, but they ruin loot. Love the videos Koko.
Spear with Machete is S tier. THE S tier. I'd argue that it's better than Katana, even. It has INSANE range. It can insta-kill zombies even when you're player is inflicted with ANY AND EVERY moodle at ONCE. You can be exhausted, on the verge of passing out, starving to death, and both sick and queasy and still cheese instakills. Those alone pale in comparison to the fact that by making OR disassembling a machete spear, you reset the "times repaired" counter. Allowing you to repair a machete once or twice, attach it to a spear, and then repair that once or twice. Repeat so long as you have wood glue and duct tape. With all that considered, all the materials needed to renew a machete spear make them (both machete and machete spear) to be a higher tier than katana due to Katana's rarity and lack of repair-ability.
I'll be honest, I consider the Machete as nº1 above the Katana even, for 2 reasons: While its reach is very slightly lower (checking the Wiki, it is only a 0.17 tiles difference) and the damage is a lot lower (Katana is 8 fixed while Machete is 2 to 3) BUT... 1- it can be fixed. 2- Even if it needs to go on your back, it is a 1 handed weapon, so you can hold it as primary and have a bag in your secondary. I believe, if I'm not wrong, that the Machete is the ONLY one handed weapon with a damage higher than a common two-handed weapon (it's damage is higher than the common fireman's Axe). If you hold a Katana in only your primary hand to hold a bag in secondary, it is a crime against a Katana, but for the Machete, it is what is intended. Also, while the Katana has more knock back, the Machete has a higher attack speed and even a considerable chance to knock down, which the Katana apparently doesn't. Even the critical chance and critical damage, while it is lower than the Katana, it is absurd when checking almost any other weapon. Katana = 35% Chance, 6x damage Machete = 20% Chance, 5x damage For that, I genuinely consider the Machete to be the absolute best weapon in the vanilla game hands down for a small margin against the Katana. The extreme damage of the Katana is wonderful, but the overall when everything is considered makes it come in second place for me.
interesting just saw a video of one guy who tested all the weapons at each skill level, stone axe was pretty high later on so was stuff like hockey stick, katana, machete, hunting knife, crowbar only ranked once in all the levels tho which is interesting since the ranking was which weapon can kill most zombies before they either break or exertion.
There’s a default weapon that is your boot. You can stump downed zombies to death. And if you’re a fire officer, you can get military boots which is one of the best boots. The cons is you can’t fight many zombies at the same time this way.
On the Wiki machete deal more damage than katana. Also machete spear is the best spear with some 110 durability. Usually mod-spear durability is 18. Hunting knife spear is 72 durability. Highest honor!
Ah, finally, a fellow nightstick enjoyer. Also I think spears should be if not S tier they should be high A tier, they are just too powerful even if they break too easily at low level maintenance, they just oneshot so consistently at such a safe distance and don't even get me started with fence stabbing. Maybe I missed the moment where he mentioned it, but how about the Hockey stick and the pool cue, and some others he didn't mention? Are they the same as golf clubs?
I’m a spear user cleared the intire of the mall with 25 spears carpentry is easy to get high lvls and with a couple of fire or a wood axe plus a saw can give like gigantic amount of planks like it’s way to much for me unless I’m making a very big base
The baseball bat (spiked) is the best weapon for long term because just for 1 nail you can repair it and each box of nails is 100 nails so 5 to craft it and you have 95 potential repairs from 1 box of nails so it i=will last forever and nails dont weigh much so if you need to destroy or clear a horde it is the best weapons so you can fight and easily repair it after easily and boxes of nails are abundant on garages and if you go to the hardware store or large warehouse you will have a lifetime supply.
Sure, 1 nail can repair it, but what's the repair %? It's very low and after like 10 repairs you're be breaking the bat just as often as repairing it, so while it's a really cool weapon it's far from the best.
Hard disagree with sledgehammer is F tier. It one shots zombies even with your starting strength. Just pull out a different weapon when you start to get tired.
Sledgehammer is the epitome of awesome but impractical. It has onehit knockdown, can hit three targets at once and a TON of damage. But you will tire out quickly and have to rest a lot. And if you gotta run, you won't have the stamina left to do so.

the crowbar is probably the best melee weapon in general not because of what he mentioned but also because of these facts he didn't mention 1: the crowbar is the highest durability weapon in the game and here's why that's good maintenance is a really good skill to have, and the way is works is every time your weapon doesn't get damaged on a hit it gains xp the crowbar has the highest durability of 70% chance to take no damage on hit making leveling up maintenance a cakewalk 2: the crowbar has a higher speed for opening up crates that are locked (I can't remember if this is vanilla or not) and has a higher speed for taking off barricades on windows and doors which is a very time consuming task and since it's a weapon you don't risk having to swap weapons for one 2 maybe even a pack of zombies 3: he mentioned it's easy to find but not how easy so I will say here where to find them warehouses garages workshops car mechanics and pretty much any back room of stores you can find on the map if your lucky.
Shovels honestly absolutely destroy the baseball bat. They swing a bit slower, but do a lot of damage, have more reach, and the reach makes them amazing. Only downside with the Shovel is durability, baseball bat wins in durability vs the shovel. But shovels make a great blunt alternative to a baseball bat. Being they're more common to find outside of 'specific' locations like schools. I find Shovels to be the workhorse of the two handed blunt category. I often save my baseball bats if I have plenty of shovels on hand because they just wipe zombie hordes out so much quicker than the bats do.
I think the Machete should be considered the best of the best because it has awesome damage and can be repaired. What's more... if you attach it to a spear, repair the spear, and then reclaim the machete, you will reset the repairs on it and basically have an infinitely reparable awesome weapon.
I would put the metal pipe/ bar and hammer into A tier. The pipe/bar have great knockdown potential, and the hammer has good crit potential at higher levels. At 5 short blunt and 7 strength I'm 2 hit killing most zombies. Using a pipe/bar on small groups to get them all down to execute or clearing out whole hordes with a hammer are pretty easy.
I would probably say that the pipe wrench is better than knight stick, 1. The pipe wrench and normal wrench work the same, it doesn't only work on sinks, and 2. Although it has slightly lower damage (by about 0.1 according to the wiki) it has better swing speed, twice as much to be precise (Where the knight stick has the same as a barbell and sledge hammer, don't know if the wikis accurate with that though) and higher durability, which is much more useful than damage in most situations. Still gonna stick to axes though.

I feel like hand axe is a potential A or S tier for the sole fact that it fits on a belt. You can chop through doors, gather wood, and have a decent bladed weapon in an incredibly small package. The soft factors are what makes this weapon
hand axe is my emergency "oh shit" tool. When the horde I attracted was way bigger then I thought and I gotta kill quick. It's great.
I would use it over the fire axe for a weapon, its lighter and faster. Exhaustion is a killer
I think the hand axe is an S tier item but a B tier weapon for the reasons you listed.
Its also probably one of the best one handed weapons, so if you have a lot of loot on you so you gotta use two bags its great to have it. And as already mentioned with some levels in it, its pretty comparable to the standard axe

IMO spiked bat should be S tier because of how easy it is to repair and still considered a blunt weapon its an amazing weapon to use if you have high blunt skill with a bonus damage thanks to the nails. Just have some nails ready for repair and have a back up blunt weapon like a baton or a pipe wrench in case you ran out of durability or found a zombie with clothes that you want.
Later on when rare zombies start to spawn with unique clothing and armour, spiked bat would cause damage to the armour. For winter, it would also be important to get clothing from zombies to keep warm that you don't want to damage.

LoL, on a server someone with an spiked bat was attacking me and I had a snow shovel and, he didnt even touch me an i killed him! (Also he had good armor, military boots, bulletproof vest and a helmet and more!)
@@EnycmaPie if you see a special zombie with interesting clothing you can switch to a hammer and not damage it that way. With this approach would you take all the other sharp weapons off of the S tier? I wouldn't, I think in majority of the cases you don't worry about condition of their clothes.
Most of the time they will only have digital watches, earbuds, medicine and a weapon jammed inside them from time to time. For warm clothing you are better off looting until you find Padded jacket and pants and/or winter hat, Long johns and whatever else. Preserving clothes on zombies is only relevant early on, if you prefer the armor over the speed and looks of your character and later on you can tell when zombies wear something special if you pay attention a little bit.
Most of the time I'd be using regular bat anyway, because I believe with 9-10 strength and high enough skill in long blunt you will be killing zombies in one hit even with basic baseball bat, which I believe has better durability than the one with nails. I still agree with nailed bat not being S tier. I think none other Long blunt is as good as the Crowbar, apart from double bladed Canoe paddle and maybe even the Shovel, if you find enough of them you can use them as weapons. They got better damage, better range and faster swinging recovery than crowbar or baseball bat so in terms of DPS they are far superior, although with much less durable so less efficient, more effective. Overall crowbar will be your overall best suited weapon as well as tool for gathering flooring, but good to know there are in fact more effective alternatives not mentioned here.

Putting hunting knife and machete on a spear and detaching it refreshes it's repair counter. That way you can endlessly use machete. REMEMBER THIS!

I think weapons having other uses is no reason to rank them lower. It means that it's a versatile tool and one less thing to take up precious space in your inventory.

I suppose something like three metal bars or metal pipes, a kitchen or survival knife and full set of welding equipment (including welding rods) would make sense for making a metal spear, probably put it at a respectably high metalworking skill too since a spear with real durability would be such a good weapon.

I'm fairly certain that you're mistaken on certain weapons not being able to break down trees.
What they can't do is the "Cut Down Tree" right click menu option. Take some weapons out to a tree some time and just whale away, there's some interesting results. :)

Also I found that the option on the contextual menu drains durability way more than just attacking the tree
fireaxe just deserves S tier, such a good weapon, incredibly easy to level up, good swing speed, 1-2 hits to kill tough zombies, and pretty easy to find

I love garden forks and pickaxes. I use them every time i got them. And unlike the katana and machete, they are fixable. They deserve the s tier spot.

Honestly cheaply too I feel like end game the only viable melee is a baseball bat (either variant), a crowbar, any axe , sledgehammer, any hammer, katana, machete, pipes, pipe wrenches, shovels, hunting knife, garden fork, and cleaver any thing else is Honestly just not going to hold up in one way or another as long as you're using any of those tho you'll have a decent ability to kill zombies without having to constantly get new weapons
Hand axe could go in A-tier below regular axe. Sure it doesn't have the same raw power, but it's lighter, faster, and leaves you with a free hand for an extra loot bag and it fits on your belt instead of your back. Also, because it is so much slower at chopping trees, you are less inclined to preserve them for that purpose.
I feel like you forgot to take into account weapon weight as it affects exertion per swing, also weapons perform better in different settings (sprinters or multi hit change the game up a lot!). Other than that great video I did enjoy it :D
I also feel like having to equip a weapon in your back is a big downside if you like to have a backpack on you. sure you can grab it with your left hand but that means you can't jump high fences as fast since you'd need to either unequip it or drop it.
Just for that i'd say a lot of the weapons in this list are ranked too highly when taking functionality into account.

Correction: The Pickaxe also can chop down trees, even at the same speed as the Axe! It just doesn't show "Chop down tree" in the right click menu. It actually does higher damage, too, so you should save it for combat either way.
Axe is better at chopping trees, as it has a higher "base durability", which is equal to the amount of hits it deals on average before breaking from max condition, although in terms of damage to trees and doors, they are identical.
You got something wrong, the shovel can be as good as a baseball bat or even better. Same category, good damage, the swing speed is really good, and can hit up to 3 zombies, so it is technically almost better than the bat

Shovels don't have as much durability as bats. Also you're talking about with multihit on, and while I do play with it a lot of people do not. Zombie for zombie, durability and damage and ability to repair and eventually be turned into a spiked bat make the bat easily superior to a shovel overall.
@@RomulessI Yeah, the bat and spiked bat are no doubt better weapons in my opinion, but even with the lower durability I'd also argue the shovel is better than examples ahead of it in this tier list like the lead pipe, metal rod, handaxe, hammer etc. I mean, I value durability quite a lot myself, but not to the point of disregarding a marked advantage in damage, reach, knockback and knockdown, with effectively the same or similar swing speed.

Found two Katanas and a machete with plenty of other weapons in a survivor house. As a beginner it is completely game changing have a surplus of powerful weaponry.

Spear with Machete is definitely an S tier, as long as it still resets the number of repairs on the Machete when it turns into a spear.
Also, please rate the Spear with (any) knife based on its true potential, not based on the low level carp/maintenance. Just as you would probably rate the Rifles based on decent Aim skill, not level 1 Aim.

As a new player, this is very insightful. It's just as important (perhaps more) to know what weapons to avoid, as it is to know which ones you want to find.
The lead pipe in my opinion is a high A maybe S tier just because of how many you can find and there durability is amazing allowing you to not use your better weapons durability.

About the knife insta kill, you can do it basically at anytime as long as you push and walk right in the zombies face or if timed correctly, which is why I would mark hunting knife atleast a or high B or low A
It's good vs single zomboids, but if you're fighting with group, then you need something like crowbar or katana
@@susl1kk199 knives use pretty much zero stamina, if there is no multihit and you are good enough to not get grabbed then there is no reason not to use hunting knives, also good for army rp if you like that.

I came here after my latest playthrough where the game trolled the shit out of me. Having come off of a crowbar playthrough where that monstrosity was dropping zombies like it was no one's business, I was suddenly in love with the idea of making Long Blunt weapon builds.
So what happened, is I started in the trailer court, and I made my way to the next trailer over. Killed and looted some zombies - military boots, nice thick coat, pants, etc, things were looking good. In the trailer I found a fucking black duffel bag - imagine my excitement - as well as a guitar. And I thought "Wow! A guitar Long Blunt weapon! This'll be great!"

I try playing it as close to how I would be in a Zombie situation, in real life, a spear is one of if not THE most effective melee weapon ever made, keeps your enemy at a distance and if you know what you're doing they can be VERY accurate
But once things get past your range it gets tricky fast lmao

A spear would suck in a real zombie apocalypse.
A spear is a great zoning weapon which is why it's been great defensively. When you have the reach, your opponent needs to decide if he's safe or not to close in to get in grapple range.
Zombies have no fear and will just slide on to your spear. Your spear is only useful for head stabs and it's a very narrow point. You're not pushing zombies away with a spear and you're not using it as a Blunt weapon of they're too close. Half spearing would be pretty awkward and dangerous because humans are afraid of spears so they're hesitant to get stabbed in the spleen but zombies just want your face.
I dare you to rate all Britas weapons next.

BUt from playing with Britas what I know is the best Rifle or shutgun is the one you have planty of ammo for. After Aiming 5, 6 they all do one hit kill the zeds.

the ONE area I disagreed was the cleaver. That belongs between the hand scythe and axe IMO. It's a high C tier. Everything else was perfect IMO.

I personally preffer the lead pipe over the baseball bats for durability. As for the night stick I'd have put it at low A tier; I love it just as much as you do, and I'll go out of my way to get them

Cleaver is actually great option for breaking doors down. Against doors, blunt weapons deal 1 to 10 damage, short blade deal 1 to 5. Axes deal the most, being fire axe and pickaxe with 35, wood axe with 55 and handaxe with 20.
Cleaver deals 20 damage to doors. That's very close to axe class.
garden fork should be up there w katana, like before pickaxe but after katana. how fast you can swing it is insane, obviously more common than a katana and it’s repairable. it also can 1 shot even if you don’t get the special animation. if there is multi hit enabled you can 1 shot multiple zombies. i found 2 garden forks at the muldragh lumber mill’s warehouses. great weapon, imo i would rate it higher than katana but im also a spear main so i have heavy bias.
edit: it gets repaired with carpentry as well. i’m pretty sure this is a bug since crafted spears max health are dynamic with your carpentry level.
I'd swap your axe and handaxe placement, like you said not such a use for trees/wood/etc. Yet quick one handed, plus all the axes are to my knowledge are the only weapon in base game that get a plus up from a profession. So regular, like you have them, but if axeman skilled, all of them go up a tier and pickaxe turns godly.
Stone axe shouldn't be an F. It is the only renewable axe in the game, meaning if you go late game, not only is it the only axe, you'll have high levels in stuff making it an actually good axe too. Maybe a high C

Agree with this list almost 100%. Only variation would be the Metal Pipe, I'd place in high A tier, almost S, above lead pipe. Reason for that is that it's a one handed version of the metal pipe, almost identical range, damage, and durability, but you can hold something else in your off hand. Knightstick is almost identical just with slightly higher damage and durability (S tier weapon for sure).
I've only gotten into the game recently, but in a way, was surprised the guitars were so low. I tried to find something less unwieldy sure, but one of those kept me pretty safe for a good week, knocked zombies around real nice
I would rank the Garden Fork between Crowbar and Pickaxe. It is repairable, which gives it an advantage over things like crowbar, Katana, and Pickaxe, it takes lower stamina to attack than crowbar and pickaxe. If I had a choice between a crowbar and a garden fork (maybe due to weight limits on a looting run), strictly on combat uses, I would pick the garden fork. However, if I saw a pickaxe, I would drop that Fork faster than a toilet zombie getting in a surprise bite..
But crowbar last forever tho.. Yes u cant repair it but they have so much dura that u prob gonna find one in zombie before u break one
Spears deserve S tier, easy one shots and good damage when your not, sure they break easily but you can walk into the woods with nothing and comeback with 10+ spears at the end of the day. Most other S tier weapons are good but depend on luck to get but spears are a guarantee and are the best weapon class in the game.
What do you mean the guitar breaks quickly? I used an electric bass for the early game and it felt like it lasted almost as long as a baseball bat.
I'm also a nightstick fan. Was mostly because I have been starting in Rosewood so those things are easy to come by and there is no other use for them..
Long weapons cost too much endurance against large horde while also being pretty rare to find, short weapon like Hammer and Hunting Knife can be found pretty easily on zombies, and you can jog around horde at any size all day swinging without ever seeing any exertion moodles.
Until you get scratched because you got 0 range.
Ive never had issues with exertion and two handed weapons. The only advantage of one handed weapons is you can carry a flashlight with you for night time exploration
@@svartrbrisingr6141 When you used knife your character do a stab animation with the hand stretched out, not only the range is good but also the speed is fast enough you can just stab them again if you whiffed or didn't kill, you only maybe get scratched if you whiffed twice in a row due bad angle or do a jawstab while swarmed by multiple zombies, which is an error on your part. I killed almost 20k zombies in a MP server in about 30 hours playtimes using mostly Knives.
Flashlight isn't that great for horde clearing at night, normally i'll find a car, standing in front of it and fight.
Also i found the stab animation is more precise than the swinging animation of many weapons, which got me scratched several times because angle, and looks like the swing should connect but turn out it didn't.
@lolsterxd2350 Not that hard in MP, since you don't need sleep, i also don't have to worry about learning other skills since other people got that cover. Could have killed more if I didn't get bad desync occasionally. But I did get enough carpentry skill to live off on my own, I wasn't planning on going on a zombie rampage at the start, but due to the desync i couldn't travel in car with the others, so mostly i break off solo open map by myself.
I think the wood axe should be in S, My friend absolutely destroys hoards with it.

Hey, just one thing. Saying an axe having capabilities beyond that of just an OP weapon gets a lower rank because its also useful in other things. That logic makes no sense. Talking about melee weapons number one issue should be combat effectiveness and then drawbacks (brakes easily, sloe swing, too heavy) and additional uses should either not effect the score negatively, or positivly in most circumstances.
So yeah, you put S weapon (fireaxe) into A tier only bc it's also a very good tool.
I understand that part about endurance of a tool / weapon but still I see no logic here, even though it's better to only use it as tool, that doesn't mean it's inferior as a weapon by that.
ALSO I think it's not that bad of idea to still use it as a weapon bc after all, that game is about surviving as long as possible. So... If with better weapon you have greater chance of staying alive, then why not? Why shouldn't I use it? After all, it's not that hard to obtain alternative tool to fireaxe, even if that alternative will be worse as a tool (and a weapon), that doesn't lower your chance of surviving, only may slow down you a bit in stuff like collecting wood or maybe breaking doors (but in case of doors there're a few better ways of doing it).
I agree that the fireaxe is definitely an S tier weapon. TBH though the reality is if you play with very difficult settings like Koko, and most vet players who have 2000+ hours in the game, you may not be able to find a good alternative to using the fireaxe to chop wood, and so unless I find a wood axe I actually never use it for killing zombies unless I find more than one. I actually would rate hand axes higher as weapons than he did though, since they are able to be put on your belt and used for taking down doors in dangerous situations easily. I agree with his point about axes as tools holding you back from using it as a weapon, but also that it's S tier without a doubt.

Frying pan/saucepan/grittle pan deserves to be s tier soley for the reason that even killing 3k zeds in Louisville won't top the thrill of fighting 12 zombies with a pan on day 1

I always grab a crowbar both because I’ll basically never have to search for a weapon again and as a reference to the Max Brooks Zombie Survival Guide. Definitely my favorite book growing up and probably influenced my interests and personality more than I realize.

Nightsticks are relatively heavy for a single handed weapon. Playing my low fitness/strength builds I skip nightsticks in favor of much lighter knives. Granted on its own its no big deal but once you start carrying a back, two belt, and maybe a holstered weapon or two, every kilo counts
crafted spear & spiked baseball bat are crazy good, both being cheap items, and crafted spears reliably killing zombies even when maximum tiredness, fatigue, etc. whereas spiked baseball bat can last 2x as long as a normal bat if you crack open some nails
found 2 garden forks in my multiplayer Serv so far and absolutely love them they are beasts at taking down zombies

The guitar is the best weapon because it allows you to roleplay as El Kabong.
I like having a backup weapon on my belt so that if my primary breaks mid combat I can quickly swap out without having to open them inventory
The sledgehammer is incredibly fun to use. It has fantastic damage if you can knock down a zombie and hit them while they are down. I would rank it very high, but it has a problem that other weapons don't which definitely brings it down to F tier.
Weight. I used it and oh boy, I had to sit down and take a break after every other swing, because it kept exerting me. I used it to clear a horde, and it gave me max exhaustion.
TL;DR if you are looking for fun novelty, with instant kills for head hits on downed zombies, but also stupid drawbacks, use the sledgehammer for a bit.
Knock them down with the Sledgy and stomp their heads with military boots!
The Guitar might be underrated. It's a long blunt which is rare and it's pretty sturdy actually. though a bit slow for my taste, toils with your emotions.
Everybody underestimates short blade. All of the short blade weapons can be used infinitely at fitness 3 short blade 5. Hand scythe, Meat cleaver and hunting knife all oneshot zombies at skill lvl 4 and are guaranteed to oneshot at lvl 7.
Just like spears, the weapons break quite quickly but they're still the best weapon category no doubt about it.
Also, the zombies have hunting knives in their bodies so they're infinite.
Just remember to sleep in between the 400 zombies that you kill per day.
Spear is a solid S tbh
- may break with low skills but can be upgraded
- can be crafted EVERYWHERE in unlimited-like amounts
- has a one-hit attack
- customizable to enhance damage and durability further
- other weapons can be "repaired" by putting them on spears
- long range and one-hit is REALLY good against sprinters

The axe is deffinetaly A+ tier or even S tier if you are a lumberjack. As lumberjack the axe has the fastest swing in the game, and it also may kill with 1-3 hits very quickly. It is a very durable weapon, you can kill dozens and dozens of zombies before it get wear. (and it chop trees)
I carry always carry a hand axe, I use it as an emergency weapon, but it’s main focus is as a breaching tool.

Shovel for normal situations, and to bury the stench.
Hammer to tear down/build barricades, or when I'm carrying a 2nd bag.

I think that police baton is a teir because it fits on the belt. Its decently common as well. For that reason, id say is high a, above the metal bar.

It can insta-kill zombies even when you're player is inflicted with ANY AND EVERY moodle at ONCE. You can be exhausted, on the verge of passing out, starving to death, and both sick and queasy and still cheese instakills. Those alone pale in comparison to the fact that by making OR disassembling a machete spear, you reset the "times repaired" counter. Allowing you to repair a machete once or twice, attach it to a spear, and then repair that once or twice. Repeat so long as you have wood glue and duct tape.
With all that considered, all the materials needed to renew a machete spear make them (both machete and machete spear) to be a higher tier than katana due to Katana's rarity and lack of repair-ability.
I'll be honest, I consider the Machete as nº1 above the Katana even, for 2 reasons:
While its reach is very slightly lower (checking the Wiki, it is only a 0.17 tiles difference) and the damage is a lot lower (Katana is 8 fixed while Machete is 2 to 3) BUT...
1- it can be fixed.
2- Even if it needs to go on your back, it is a 1 handed weapon, so you can hold it as primary and have a bag in your secondary.
I believe, if I'm not wrong, that the Machete is the ONLY one handed weapon with a damage higher than a common two-handed weapon (it's damage is higher than the common fireman's Axe).
If you hold a Katana in only your primary hand to hold a bag in secondary, it is a crime against a Katana, but for the Machete, it is what is intended.
Also, while the Katana has more knock back, the Machete has a higher attack speed and even a considerable chance to knock down, which the Katana apparently doesn't.
Even the critical chance and critical damage, while it is lower than the Katana, it is absurd when checking almost any other weapon.
Katana = 35% Chance, 6x damage
Machete = 20% Chance, 5x damage
For that, I genuinely consider the Machete to be the absolute best weapon in the vanilla game hands down for a small margin against the Katana.
The extreme damage of the Katana is wonderful, but the overall when everything is considered makes it come in second place for me.
I just think it's stupid, that some anime weeb sword deals more damage than a huge bat or even a 6 kilogram Sledgehammer.

interesting just saw a video of one guy who tested all the weapons at each skill level, stone axe was pretty high later on so was stuff like hockey stick, katana, machete, hunting knife, crowbar only ranked once in all the levels tho which is interesting since the ranking was which weapon can kill most zombies before they either break or exertion.
There’s a default weapon that is your boot. You can stump downed zombies to death.
And if you’re a fire officer, you can get military boots which is one of the best boots.
The cons is you can’t fight many zombies at the same time this way.
Anyone can get military boots, they're not rare
On the Wiki machete deal more damage than katana. Also machete spear is the best spear with some 110 durability. Usually mod-spear durability is 18. Hunting knife spear is 72 durability. Highest honor!

Also I think spears should be if not S tier they should be high A tier, they are just too powerful even if they break too easily at low level maintenance, they just oneshot so consistently at such a safe distance and don't even get me started with fence stabbing.
Maybe I missed the moment where he mentioned it, but how about the Hockey stick and the pool cue, and some others he didn't mention? Are they the same as golf clubs?

I’m a spear user cleared the intire of the mall with 25 spears carpentry is easy to get high lvls and with a couple of fire or a wood axe plus a saw can give like gigantic amount of planks like it’s way to much for me unless I’m making a very big base

The baseball bat (spiked) is the best weapon for long term because just for 1 nail you can repair it and each box of nails is 100 nails so 5 to craft it and you have 95 potential repairs from 1 box of nails so it i=will last forever and nails dont weigh much so if you need to destroy or clear a horde it is the best weapons so you can fight and easily repair it after easily and boxes of nails are abundant on garages and if you go to the hardware store or large warehouse you will have a lifetime supply.
Sure, 1 nail can repair it, but what's the repair %? It's very low and after like 10 repairs you're be breaking the bat just as often as repairing it, so while it's a really cool weapon it's far from the best.
Hard disagree with sledgehammer is F tier. It one shots zombies even with your starting strength. Just pull out a different weapon when you start to get tired.
Sledgehammer is the epitome of awesome but impractical.
It has onehit knockdown, can hit three targets at once and a TON of damage.
But you will tire out quickly and have to rest a lot. And if you gotta run, you won't have the stamina left to do so.
Short blunt hammer gameplay is the true way

@@ee-rd8hr Most likely hypochondriac - the idea iirc was that when you got a wound from a zombie your character would sometimes get the nausea/anxiety/panic of the virus without actually having it thus: fake infection
the crowbar is probably the best melee weapon in general not because of what he mentioned but also because of these facts he didn't mention
1: the crowbar is the highest durability weapon in the game and here's why that's good
maintenance is a really good skill to have, and the way is works is every time your weapon doesn't get damaged on a hit
it gains xp the crowbar has the highest durability of 70% chance to take no damage on hit making leveling up maintenance a cakewalk
2: the crowbar has a higher speed for opening up crates that are locked (I can't remember if this is vanilla or not) and has a higher speed for taking off barricades on windows and doors which is a very time consuming task and since it's a weapon you don't risk having to swap weapons for one 2 maybe even a pack of zombies
3: he mentioned it's easy to find but not how easy so I will say here where to find them

According to the wiki: "After 10 days have passed, crowbars can be found impaled in the back of zombies."
Crowbars are infinitely renewable.

The guitar's actually pretty good. I've crushed hordes with it. Definitely not something to use in enclosed hallways though.

Shovels honestly absolutely destroy the baseball bat. They swing a bit slower, but do a lot of damage, have more reach, and the reach makes them amazing. Only downside with the Shovel is durability, baseball bat wins in durability vs the shovel. But shovels make a great blunt alternative to a baseball bat. Being they're more common to find outside of 'specific' locations like schools. I find Shovels to be the workhorse of the two handed blunt category. I often save my baseball bats if I have plenty of shovels on hand because they just wipe zombie hordes out so much quicker than the bats do.

I think the Machete should be considered the best of the best because it has awesome damage and can be repaired. What's more... if you attach it to a spear, repair the spear, and then reclaim the machete, you will reset the repairs on it and basically have an infinitely reparable awesome weapon.
That's an exploit though. If you're going to cheat why not just mod the game so that machetes are unbreakable?

I would put the metal pipe/ bar and hammer into A tier. The pipe/bar have great knockdown potential, and the hammer has good crit potential at higher levels. At 5 short blunt and 7 strength I'm 2 hit killing most zombies. Using a pipe/bar on small groups to get them all down to execute or clearing out whole hordes with a hammer are pretty easy.
Half of b tier is actually a tier just of its durability and good damage. And some of them even have small weight.
Especially axe.
I would probably say that the pipe wrench is better than knight stick, 1. The pipe wrench and normal wrench work the same, it doesn't only work on sinks, and 2. Although it has slightly lower damage (by about 0.1 according to the wiki) it has better swing speed, twice as much to be precise (Where the knight stick has the same as a barbell and sledge hammer, don't know if the wikis accurate with that though) and higher durability, which is much more useful than damage in most situations. Still gonna stick to axes though.
