    I would pair Barfi with Rabdi

    56:40 I stand with Abbas. Good artists copy, great artists steal. This movie would be incomplete without Pritam's music and background score, and every single song on this album is a banger.

    Loved this episode! Made me want to rewatch the movie. Also, really sweet of Snayhil to bring Barfi to the show.

    Ileana has never looked so beautiful I think, as she did as a married Bengali woman with complete feminine loveliness, eyes full of sensitive understanding and poetry. I had seen Ileana in Telugu movies before and thought she looked unremarkable until the promo of Phir Le Aya Dil where she looked organically stunning. Great Hindi debut

    Loved the alternate ending segment.
    Laughed out loud when Snayhill suggested "Ileana ko Satish shukla se pyar ho jata hai aur wo uska homeopathy ka business sambhalta hai" 😂😂😂😂😂

    As a cheap American copy of an Indian (referring to myself), I feel like I’m a bit sensitive to Indian movies, songs, etc. blatantly ripping off other (often Western) artists. But with this film, the supposedly “copied” elements-the Chaplin/Keaton-esque physical comedy gags, Pritam’s music, etc.-all felt like loving homages, not lazy rip-offs, and the difference is all the difference (as I steal a phrase from Aaron Sorkin right there, not for nothing 😆).

    Although Charlie Chaplin bits can still be exempted as homage because they are in the end used for comic relief. This movie, however nice it was, picked an entire plot point from The Notebook of Ileana's mother taking her to show her if she had followed love, she'd have been with that wood cutter guy. It is almost lifted scene by scene.

    • @dia606
      @dia606 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah if they’d just mentioned the Charloe Chaplin inspiration-homage somewhere i think the audience would have happily forgiven the similarities

    • @kinaramohanty5286

      The ending of them dying together of old age is also a complete lift from Notebook.

    Anurag's cinema till Barfi was made from copied movies done right in the Indian context. It's cinema's way of not giving him enough credit(NO OSCAR), full circle to plagiarism.

    i’ve never heard another soundtrack that conveys such deep and mature emotions, the sound of magical thrill, of the realization of things left unsaid, nostalgia and regret mingled with love and tragicomic zest for life. The songs are a Hrishikesh Mukherjee movie telling to live life fully

    I find the timeline of the movie to be a bit strange. In 1972, I think we can assume that Ranbir’s, Ileana’s, and PC’s characters are in their early 20s; for argument’s sake, let’s say they’re 25, born around 1947 (yay, symbolism?). The “present day” is roughly 40 years later, meaning they’re about 65. I don’t think that’s particularly old. Yet Ranbir and PC, especially, are seemingly portrayed as very elderly. And the brilliant Saurabh Shukla’s character is clearly older than all of them, probably by at least 10 years, yet in the present day, he’s not only alive and well, but still working, just not as a cop anymore. I think about weird things. (Speaking of, unrelated side note: We know Barfi’s real first name is Murphy, but on Wikipedia and such, his last name is given as “Johnson”. When is that revealed in the film? And with that last name, given the Darjeeling/Kolkata setting, I wonder if “Barfi” is supposed to be Anglo-Indian-which would be another similarity to _Black,_ oddly enough. Like I said, I think about weird things.)

    Really loved the episode. This was by far my favorite movie review by Snayhil. So matured, empathetic, and sensitive review of the movie and it's characters. I specially loved how he defended Shruti (Ilyana)'s character with a lot of maturity and sensibility. Being a Benagli and growing up consuming so much Bengali literature, which is very melancholic in nature, we are so used to seeing characters, even main leads, being heartbroken and choosing to be alone and finding other purposes for a fulfilling life. It's very normal in real life and should be easily accepted by people. P.S. Someone please show Abbas and Urjita some tragic Bong films 😁!

    My alternate ending= What I say is it can be a la la landish type ending with it's theme music running and also eleana's character realizes in that same dream that what I have did to Murphy in her dream is wrong . And also the flash back of the mother in the car scene with her. And their she realize that it is wrong to separate loving people. It's my selfish reason similar to my mother reason In my mother's case it's money and my reason I my love/light obsession(I don't know the right word) for him.
    I don't know but we can also include the guest's ending that Eliana will be good friends with them.( Semi sweet ending)Or just don't include that let it be bittersweet ending. Where she got what she need is status by her husband who can speak. But haven't got what she wanted which was Murphy's love.

    This movie is very Miyazaki-esque in terms of the nostalgia for rural life and simpler times, an investment in childlike excitement and faith in magic, especially in the musical parts - most of all the movie makes you miss older eras less automated less industrialized lifestyles

      They’re not talking about when he mimes giving his heart to Shruti. They’re talking about when he points to his mouth and ears and waves his hand rapidly to indicate that he can’t speak or hear, then points down to his junk and gives the “OK” sign, indicating that his Little Barfi is fully operational. I think he actually directs this at Shruti’s friend, but I can’t recall.

    Vidya deserved the best actress award that year over Priyanka cos she carried the film on her shoulders, Priyanka had loads of support from Ranbir and Ileana. So i beg to differ, Vidya in Kahaani was outstanding

    You guys got terribly wrong on that Non Veg Joke!!! He was pointing to his heart that is tooo good!! Even If I m wrong..There is this one other clear Non Veg joke that people sleep on..
    It is on a Ghat where he has taken Jhilmil on the way to Kolkata...
    He sees some news on a Newspaper regarding him and points out to a paper which is lying on a lap of a Fat Guy...
    That thing has been staged as if The fat Guy thinks he is asking for a Sexual favour...Hope I did make a Point...

    • @IdliAmin_TheLastKingofSambar
      @IdliAmin_TheLastKingofSambar 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      LOL 😂 No disrespect, but wow, did you get that first one wrong. Barfi CLEARLY points down to his junk and gives the “OK” sign, indicating that while he can’t speak or hear, his Little Barfi works perfectly. But it’s kind of adorable that you think he was pointing to his heart. It’s possible you’re right on the fat guy gag, but that one is at least a little open to interpretation. (This is neither here nor there, but it’s cute-if a bit confusing to non-desis-that dirty jokes are referred to as “non-veg” in Indian English.)
