Schultz looks more Iranian than the guy from Iran.
Nope. Just your typical hairy white guy
@@dravidiangmb7242 Nope, he looks Iranian.
@@jamezrobertz8638 Because you know how every Iranian looks like, cool story bro
Schultz was invited to Iran to make the local men appear less hairy.
@@dravidiangmb7242 relax bro. No need to get personal.
The smile on Dave's face is priceless. That's a man who always showed up to work and loved what he did!
He looks like he's sparring and joking with his buddy.
And was so loved by his peers.
Dave Schultz was a legendary wrestler with a big heart. May he rest in peace. Respect to Schultz and USA from Iran
And to Iran from U.S.
Very mature of both of you..God bless u both
Yaghiiii Rest In Peace champion ( from an Iranian)

@@TheTolz0 i agree
The Iranian wrestler is Behrooz Yari. A great wrestler in his own right. Admin should put his name on the title too.
Right now the video title looks racist AF. LoL.
Seriously. Very disrespectful
Shut up. Crybaby
The only time and Iranian dude told an American dude he needs to shave.
ROFL
We really arent that hairy, atleast most of us.

Wish more wrestlers had his demeanor. I hate that so many college wrestlers treat their opponents with so little respect (half assed handshakes, showboating, cheap shots, etc). To me wrestling is a martial art, and all martial artists should regard their foe and his coaches and team with utmost respect.
Absolutely true, well said
Talking about disrespect! Remember when the Olympic committee wanted to replace wrestling with Golf! The outrage was so bad even Iran sided with the US about the decision. I remember pro golfers saying it was the dumbest decision. Thank goodness they reversed it.
as opposed to Iowa's Terry Brands who was snarling & yelling at the unpaid volunteer staff at a scorers table in the final match at 2019 Midlands because an Iowa wrestler lost.

AHHHHH half assed handshakes. Thank you for this post. I keep saying that this is poor sportsmanship, yet I hear this is the new style of handshaking. Then why is it that ONLY the losers lay out a sloppy lazy pitiful hand at the end of a match?! We ALL know exactly why.
I wonder how different American wrestling would have been if his life wasn’t cut so short. Imagine Dave as a full time coach with all his technical and tactical knowledge !

Smiling the entire match...he went out there to have fun, and he did so all while dominating his matches! Wish there were more videos of him to show kids.
Wrestlers are a whole different breed. Dig the competition.
What an amazing wrestler!!! A gentleman in and out of the mat. Smiling all the time. You can tell Schultz loved wrestling and had tons of fun at the mat. Gone but not forgotten, Champ!!!
What a clean non juicing steroid man looks like
Yeah I had just watched the 1996 USA IRAN olympic match and was thinking Kurt Angle is definitely on juice already, and his opponent seemingly as well, and I started wondering how far back they had started juicing, good to know that in 1995 at least the athletes looked natural
@@KvltKommando the thing is, because in Olympic wrestling you have to keep your body in the lowest possible weight , going on juice not only doesn't help you but also is against your goals , therefore freestyle wrestlers have the most possible natural athlete looking bodies among fighters.
@@rezaF_ you confuse steroids with mass stop talking if u know shit u little toothpick
@@dimitriskontor8617 Judging by your lack of self restraint, I trust your knowledge of steroids. Maybe you should give steroids a little break. You're giving off a very Benoit vibe. Don't do it man.
@@KvltKommando steroids might only be useful at higher weight classes in wrestling. I wrestled at 171 in highschool. I am not sure if steroids would have given me an advantage.
One of the greatest wrestlers in US history.
Russian ties to snatch single legs; Never rolling over own back; Never sitting on knees on leg attacks; Using Front Headlocks; impenetrable defense, SOLID fundamentals.
This man and legend learned to wrestle like Russians, Iranians, and Eastern Europeans but was from America. My idol, amongst the greatest technicians of all time right there!
Thank you Rudis for posting this excellent match of Dave Schultz.
"What does never sitting on knees during a leg attack" mean I'm new to wrestling i thought u were supposed to touch your knees to the mat on certain take downs unless you mean something else
one of the first things you are taught is a drop-step where you go down to a knee and then come back to your feet, but most kids stay on there knee(s). Dave hits both knees a 5:44 and is off both knees at 5:44. His position is so perfect it looks like he is drilling.
good luck with your wrestling
man who know this important poin really her or his self nicely is a philosopher in our world.thanks .I am from of Iran

The old days of sports and sportsmanship have died. Sad to see
damn mark ruffalo did an incredible job playing him. my god
Agreed
He looks like the type of guy you could just easily love and be friends with. I watched the documentary and he looked to have such a good heart. Feel so very sorry for his family and their loss
I was there! Iranians were chanting Dave's name on some of his matches.
Best fans ever.
Was chewbacca there too?
I was at World Cup 2016 and 2017 both in LA and all Iranians cheered for Burroughs. At least the one year, I think he was absent second year for son birth. These were Iranians from Iran, not LA Persians too.
I met Iranians at UC-Davis in the 80’s. Intelligent and honest people. Wish our countries could be friends.
I´m Iranian and I´m a big fan of all US wrestlers, the best on the planet
The Whizzer and hip defense at 7:30 was just phenomenal
Insane… and effortless

R.I.P. Dave BIG ❤️ Great skill Family man that was gone too soon 🌹🙏
Dave Schultz = CONFIDENCE
Dave is freaking tough. His technique is superb. His simile makes him look like he is enjoying what he does. Fun to watch.
He was an absolute beast. Not just strong, but incredibly smart and almost had a sixth sense in knowing what his opponents were going to do before they did it. He was so fluid in his movements. Wrestling is such a misunderstood sport. Thinking it’s just strength. Being strong is good, but leverage is so much more of a factor. I’ve played a lot of different sports, none of them were as demanding and draining as wrestling. Every muscles in your body is used. Another thing was Dave’s conditioning. He never ran out of gas. It’s like he got stronger and quicker the longer it went. Such a phenomenal athlete. It sucks so much John Du Pont was raised they way he was. I’m not excusing his actions, but his upbringing was awful. No real support structure or anyone to boost his fragile self image.
Dave, the man , the myth and the legend. RIP champ.
The Persian wrestler's name is "Behruz Yari". We are still proud of him.
Schultz was a beast!
Everyone loved him! He was truly an amazing human being
Dave always seemed to be walking like an old man or something....then when the match starts he turns into a powerhouse
Yoda effect
Sad to know that less than 6 months after this match, he was dead. That smile and the attitude on the mat is infectious.
How did he die
kinghaze he was shot by John DuPont. John was starting a training program for the US called team fox catcher. John got jealous of Dave and ended up shooting him on the DuPont estate where Dave was living. And yes it is the same DuPont as the DuPont paint and other entities.
@@kinghaze9239 if you have Netflix, check out the documentary Team Foxcatcher. There is also a movie based on John Dupont and his relationship with Dave and Mark Schultz.
@@jacobstewart8516 dam I dont know why I didnt remember this I just watched that movie a while back
Would love to see Dave Schultz vs Jordan Burroughs or Dake.
I knew Dave in high school, a true gentleman even back then. Be at peace my friend.
A true bright light that was extinguished way to soon. Imagine what would have been had Dave wrestled in the 96' Olympics.
RIP Dave Schultz
Always a Legend, thank you for inspiring so many of us wrestlers, rest in peace brother!
what a wonderful wrestler and from what ive heard a great man. RIP to one of the greatest
In addition to being an American/World wrestling icon he was so classy & respectful to his opponents. He was as cool as he was ferocious. I wish we had many more videos of Dave (and Mark Schultz) available to witness their brilliance.
You could see the respect just watching how many times he tried to shake his opponents hand. Seemed like every chance he got.
I'm 31 so I was too young to appreciate Dave before he died, what an amazing person...let alone one of the best wrestlers of all time...
Dave was the beast!!! So technical and diverse!! Rest in peace champ!! You will always be on our hearts!
His attitude, his grace, his skills, everything about the man is legend. Always wanted to be like Schultz when I stepped on the mat
I've never seen someone so relaxed on the mat, and in a world championship match no less. What an anomaly he was, gone too soon.
Years ago when I wrestled in college I loved to study both David and Mark. Obviously in college we did folkstyle but we trained freestyle on our time. Absolute legend. Both brothers. Rest in Peace sir.

That wizard at 7:37 was perfect. I went back to watch it like 10 times
revert Rerkot whizzer
Dave Schultz looked almost aloof when not on the mat. The second he steps on the mat and the whistle blows. His whole demeanor and look changes to an intense pit bull. Constantly looking to grab any part of his opponents body and wrench them onto the mat. His front face lock was no joke. More then a few very talented wrestlers took a nap after Dave grab ahold of them.
I don't know ANYTHING about wrestling. But this is such a sad story.
Rest in peace Champ. Gone but NEVER forgotten.

Wrestling tears the world apart.
@@elmoblatch9787 your point of view is valid. But please help me understand!

7:32-7:42 is just insane. Near impossible escape, sealed the match
What a wonderful match! Dave had so much drive to win..
I love Dave meet him in Polo Alto CA.
Great Guy.
Not sure anyone ever looked as relaxed and confident than Dave on the mat.
Look at genuine smile. He’s having the time of his life - I choose not to think about his tragic loss and instead, the contribution of his legacy.
The Iranian wrestler is Behrouz Yari. Aside from his talent on the mat, what made Dave such an enduring persona were his sportsmanship and the fact that unlike other American wrestlers of that era, he actually befriended a number of Soviet and Iranian wrestlers.
Rest in peace champ. My hero! I was 14 in Las Vegas 1996 and saw Dave wrestling and got his autograph. Broke my hearth when he was taken from us.
All I know is Dave was one of my heroes in Wrestling and I am grateful that he was born!
Ty Hatfield I don’t know if you were aware, but in California they name the award of the Most outstanding wrestler after Dave Shultz and if you get that award, you are considered the best wrestler for state (both girl and boy’s awards are named for him)... a great way to honor one of California’s greatest wrestlers
David Anderson awesomeness
Rest In Peace Sly Fox.
Tragedy or not Dave really embodied the wrestler/coach role. Lived it
That Iranian wrestler was actually very good. Not an easy opponent to beat. Schultz was a brilliant talent. Sad what happened.
7878 stew He was tragically shot and killed by his own coach John DuPont in 1996 who was mentally ill and had major paranoid episodes throughout his adult life. DuPont was convicted of 3rd degree murder and was sentenced to 30 yrs. He died in prison in 2010. RIP Dave!
@7878 stew Foxcatcher was the movie made about this tragedy, damn good movie.
7878 stew Yes, very sad. As a High School and Collegiate wrestler, I took this news quite hard. As adrian pointed out, the movie Foxcatcher told the entire story of the two Schultz brothers, both world class wrestlers and very fine men, and of course the tragic ending. If you get a chance to see it, I'm sure you would find it astonishing as I did. For the record, John DuPont was next in line to inherit the entire DuPont Empire, which would have made him the 4th richest man on earth.
@@Mach1Airspace DuPont was far from being a "coach." He was a benefactor, plain and simple. At a time when the funding for USA Wrestling was so piss poor, DuPont took it on as a sort of hobby-obsession to provide the wrestlers with a place to live and train on his estate.
pcolt4 Don't talk to me about him being a benefactor. That's no longer his legacy. All he ended up being was a murderous psycho who went mustang and killed one of the best wrestlers who ever walked the earth in cold blood, you got it? Go troll somewhere else, Dumbass.
Dave schultz is an American hero a true patriot, a legendary wrestler and Marks big brother
it is hard watching this and other videos of him. He was foreclosed from using his unique skills and knowledge too soon. I know Foxcatcher people who have still been affected by this. But, he did provide this USA wrestling community forever
Dave was a beast on the mat. He was so talented.
What a gentleman he was…
dave was one helluva an athlete, even at 36 he was still improving as an athlete. RIP dave
This must have been 1995 World Cup in Chattanooga, Tn. USA. Great Match!
@charles hall Kinda, but they are two different touraments
An amazing, amazing person, and a outstanding wrestler...Rest In Peace.
The Iranians are great wrestlers- really deep bench, good technique.Look at the first take down- perfect timing and really deep. We had an Iranian guy on our high school team in Philadelphia and I always thought he was sandbagging because he was afraid we didn’t like him.
Dave was such a great sport and all around great guy! Rest in peace Dave!

I can only imagine Dave would continued to grow wrestling and help wrestlers from around the world. What a loss to the sport of wrestling.
Love the Iranian chants from fans
Dave was such a great ambassador for the sport. Super nice guy, elite wrestler, great sportsman, respectful, humble, and tough as nails. A tragic loss.
Pomp, mutual respect, adoring crowds, attendant coaches. Fabulous ritual. And breathtaking skill.
Love Mark and Dave--both awesome.
The crowd was awesome
Dr. D how you could wrestle with those loose shoes is amazing.
Love the respect from the Iranian people
When someone dies tragically, that often becomes what they are known for and their skill and accomplishments are forgotten by many.

Saw the movie on an international flight coming back from Singapore. “Fox catcher”’is a dark horse sleeper for one of the greatest movies most people have not seen. I was compelled from start to finish and left in awe for the rest of my 17 hour flight home after seeing it...
