@K think you are forgetting that this game is set literally only a year or two before the events of Black Ops 2 with Raul Menedez, so if anything the next game would be exploring how he fits in the picture and his rise to power. The next game will probably end with Perseus disappearing from the picture and Raul starting to take the limelight to fit with the canon of the black ops timeline. It will also probably explain how Woods is captured, who you need to rescue in the first mission of Black Ops 2
@K he did get captured during vietnam war in Black Ops 1, but he also got captured during the Angolian Civil War, which is the first mission you play in Black ops 2. I believe this civil war was around the mid 80s
Also I have not seen it confirmed anywhere that they are 'rewriting' the story. Black Ops Cold War is set between Black Ops 1 and Black Ops 2, so its entirely possible to write a new story without it interfering with the games that come after

So this is the storyline, Bo1 Mason gets brainwashed but he gets the W, Then cold war (SPOILERS) you are brainwashed by the good guys (The good ending is what continues to bo2) and still get killed and that also goes for the new crew (I don't know about sims though), and finally bo2 which is Menendez that kills woods or mason (or both) but then later on Mason's son David kills or capture Menendez (no one really knows). In bo3 Mason, Woods, or Menendez is not in the game because it was in the future. I think that (sadly) All 3 died, David Mason I really don't know.
I feel like the stuff with zhakaev, and the tie in with modern warfare is setting this up for a retconing of black ops 3, 4 and possibly (???) Black ops 2 since modern warfare was also reset. He was born in 1979 but we don’t know what month, and the Cold War ‘81 missions take place between January - March so judging by the fact David mason’s birthday was between those events he would of been 2 or if his birthday was after the months of the Cold War occurance he currently would of been 1
