I figured that out to the cows has good insulation because of the long hair as you said they will do fine and they are made for that kind of climate as well.
For us, we start keeping a close eye on them if the temp drops below -20c for multiple days. In these case we make sure they have bedding in their shelter and lots of food easily accessable. In these temps they should still be ok, with some sort of protection. If it starts dropping below -30c then they might need more ways to insulate and protect themselves. We have had ours out in -30c before and they seem fine, as long as there is sun, shelter, bedding and other cows to snuggle with.
@@ThorHavenFarm thanks for the info. I’m over here across the river in Ontario and I’m looking to buy a homestead. I’ve been trying to decide what kind of cows to get based on the cold winters we get.. I think a couple of highland might just do the trick for me!!
