Awesome place to fly for sure! Looks like the lift was spot on for some good XC flying. Going on glide must have been fun. Just relaxing and taking in the scenery

It might look relaxing in the video, but my crappy flatland technique made the flight very tense about 50% of the time. After the initial start of the flight at 7,000 ft, I never made it back up to Cloud base. So I was struggling between 1000 abd 2000 feet AGL. I could see other Wings high above me in the cool mist at cloud-base, and it was frustrating to see them up there and not be able to reach the same altitudes. I've been studying flatland flying, and I read everything about how you're supposed to look for the Leading Edge of the cloud find the lift you know when you're more than halfway to cloud-base, don't fly the ground fly the clouds, all that stuff. But I'm just not very good at it because most of my flying is in a mountain environment

Nice one Steve. I liked the local colour you included too. Looks great and maybe I’ll get there one day

It's a long way from England, but they just held the British Nationals there 2 weeks ago. So some of your buddies might have been there

If you're going to go again next year I'll go for sure. Listening to Brian describe surfing up the side of a tall cumi makes me realize I didn't get enough good flying in.

Awesome flight, I’m really hoping to get to Colombia next year, I’m always seeing my friends great footage from there. I fly 99% of the time in the western Sierra’s, not the most forgiving air, but it’s where I have learned to thermal and fly small XC’s. Everyone tells me that after learning here when I go to places like Colombia it’ll be “easy”. I’m sure it’s not without its own challenges, but large strong thermals that don’t have edges like brick walls is something I can only dream about lol.

I too do most of my flying in Punchy dry Southwestern air. And they're correct in stating that The Thermals in Colombia are fat and nice. However, they can be quite strong, particularly if you go in the northern part of the valley up by Roldanillo or Ansermanuevo. With thousands of pilots in the area, there are a few injuries. That having been said, if you avoid landing during the most thermic part of the day, the flying is delightful. One thing to keep in mind is the need for good forward inflation technique on many launches. I suck at forwards, so I avoided 7 Launch - Bello Horizonte is typically nice and breezy and I was able to do reverses.
This was my 1st time flying Flatlands, and I have a lot yo learn!
Thanks for watching! I'll check out your videos.

@@NelsonsWings yes, please do! I’ve watched a lot of your videos and you make some great videos, mine are mostly just flight footage, not a lot of commentary, I need to try to do more commentary, but it can be difficult as you know how much you brain is invested in the flight.
