9 years later… I am watching your video. Leah you are amazing. This is the best video/ explanation I’ve ever seen. Thank you, thank you. I think I will be able to do this.
Finally someone who speaks plain English for the beginner DIY instead of a bunch of intermediate/professional gibberish! Thank you so much and subscribed.
You've taught me so much, Leah. You're that one in a million teacher who knows how to explain everything clearly without treating your students (that's us!) like dummies; you anticipated every question I had, and got my through my toilet installation with confidence. Thank you, sister!
OMG, I did it!!! I waited on Home Depot sale & got the toilet for $99 dollars. I did it all except for removal of 1 stubborn rusty bolt that I had to get my brother to remove. All I could hear in my head was "It's only 2 bolts & you can do it"!!!! Thank you so much, you're my Shero!!!!!
I watched dozens of youtubes to see how to install my toilet and I kept coming back to Leah. I'm a single mom so saving money is always 100% on my mind and to help me guide that heavy toilet in I had my mom watch the video and at 73 and me at 49, we totally did it ourselves!
This makes 3 toilets I’ve replaced in my home since the first time I viewed your video. I looked at it again since it had been over a year since I replaced the last one; Your video is so thorough I used it as a refresher course! Installing a toilet is actually quite easy, anyone who is apprehensive should watch this video and go for it!
I watched THREE other toilet installation videos on youtube before I saw yours. This is the best and most informative one. You gave multiple ways to do each step if possible, how to take care of a rusted bolt, how to keep everything clean and keep water from getting everywhere, etc. Yay! I can to do it!
Can I just say a HUGE thank you for doing what you do? I do a lot of home repair projects and I come to your channel every time now. It seems no matter what I need to do, you have a tutorial that gets me through it. Being a single mom on a small budget, you have saved me thousands of dollars over the last few years! THANK YOU!
I can't believe I did it. I asked a friend to come help with the base, but I don't think I needed her help. This was my first time ever doing something like this. Your video was very helpful. Thank you.
I like her. She's thorough and informative. I like that she discusses what she'll be doing before she gets started instead of talking through the steps where often steps are done without mentioning and you spend more time trying to figure out what the instructor is trying to convey. Nice work. thanks Leah!
5 years after this video was first made, Leah was the first person I sought to learn from TODAY! I consider myself a pretty handy woman, but never in a million years did I think I’d remove and replace a toilet. I was mortified about doing this, but I did it, and by myself (at almost 57 years young). Am I worn out? You bet! But I’m also very proud... and grateful to Leah. I couldn’t have done it without you, Leah! (P.S.: even though my toilet was a “complete” ensemble and included innards, as well as a standard wax ring (complete with bolts, washers and nuts!), I am *so* glad that I had the foresight to purchase an additional, double thickness wax ring. My situation really required one and I couldn’t have known for sure until I got the old toilet out.)
OMG! Why isn't this lady famous on HGTV or something?!! I need to change two toilets in an older home I just bought and I was going to pay a plumber to do it. I was searching the internet for DIY videos and couldn't find ONE video of a woman showing this. Maybe a few changing the seat...did that already! When I saw Leah show this so clearly and professionally I wanted to cry I was so relieved. I really think I can do this now. Thanks so much, Leah!
This gives me confidence. As a girl growing up with boys and a dad that only believed they could do home projects or construction, I always felt left out. Your explanations and step by step instructions are excellent. Thank you so much. I need to do a one handle faucet next and would love to see some of your videos. Plumber"s are to expensive for me on a fixed income.
What an awesome instructional video! Clear steady filming with no jiggling all over the place like you see in a lot of other people's videos. And best of all, you list all tools & supplies needed and then take your viewers through each and every step needed to complete a successful project. You are truly an awesome instructor! THANK YOU!!
This might be the best video on changing out your toilet. No - it's not the greatest "production quality" but it's packed with useful information. Pure gold!
Ma’am. I had to stop this video part way through just so I could come here to comment to tell you what a wonderful video this is. You are covering EVERYTHING a real beginner would need to know to do this job. So many videos leave out little bits and pieces that non-trades people might not know. I’m 48 and just now finally able feeling confident to do these types of jobs for myself. Thank you so much for this video. I haven’t looked yet, but I hope you have have other how to’s on TH-cam!
Thank you for this video. I'm a senior woman 70 plus and I've saved a lot of money this month. I've been able to fix leaks on my kitchen sink drain and today my toilet. The worst part for me was getting down on the floor to unscrew the water line and hooking up the fixture with the float and adjusting it. The joints don't bend like they use to. Couldn't have done it without these videos. Now a new shower head and drain ring.
You go Chihuahuas 11. I am a 68 year old man and done this a few times and now have some of the same problems with joints so needless to say, I resemble that remark. My hat is off to you. With Leah and ladies such as your self, women can be more empowered. Thank you.
Me and my wife watched this after stumbling upon it and we changed it the same day thanks to you Leah !!! So helpful i can’t believe folks actually pay to do this it seems intimidating at first but you made it so simple to follow the steps 😃
Thank you Leah ! You produced a very detailed, step-by-step, video to install a toilet. The tip I found most helpful was marking the floor with tape as a guide, before actually setting the toilet on the wax ring. It couldn't have been more perfect!!! And the best part ~ absolutely no leaks!!! Thank you!
I have done this before year's ago when I first moved into my house. Now it is time to do it again and I'm a little older and have had a couple of body parts replaced or prepared. I watched a couple of other videos as a refresher but your video was the best. I can do this.🙂🤣
Thank you for this video. At 1:30 am this morning I discovered my toilet had clothes flushed in it and I spent two hours trying to clear the clog. Nothing worked and I ended up marring the toilet from the snakes and things I was using. So by 3:30am I decided the toilet would have to be removed and cleared. A task I've never attempted to do, because I'm not good at plumbing. Search the net for some information and found your video. You gave me the confidence to tackle the job. I reviewed several new toilets on line, decided on one, went to Home depot at 6:30 am and bought the new toilet (hardware included) new fill hose, gloves and waxless ring seal. Then reviewed your video and had it completely installed in two hours with no leaks! Thank you for this video!
Todd, I didn't know what dysfunctional was until both my parents & hubby got dementia at the same time. But true love stands the tests of time until it's our time...
This was the best tutorial! I was able to remove my toilet that was wobbling because the flange was bent and the bolts weren't holding the toilet secure. It would rock. The tips you gave made the job pretty easy. I'm an older woman and it took me all day with two trips to Lowes. But it gave me a terrific sense of accomplishment! Yes we can do this! Thanks so very much!
I think you're the only person on TH-cam I've seen mention putting the rag in the hole so we don't breathe in sewer gases. I love how thorough you are in showing everything.
I've been a Handyman/Plumber for a long time. It is so nice to see a very instructive video and to see a woman doing this type of work. Very good video
Watched two other tutorials before this one. This was by far the most comprehensive, and I didn't need to watch any other after this one. Thank you so much for such a thorough tutorial!
Wow~! This is a born teacher. Not being handy my wife was totally against me changing our old toilet . I watched Janes video and even though there were a few rough moments I got it installed and it works great!! THANK YOU SEEJANE!!
I'm in the middle of a kitchen renovation and have learned that I can save SOOO much money doing things myself. I need to replace two toilets and this video really breaks it down for me in a way that I hope I can manage. Just got a quote from a plumber saying it would cost upward of $800 just to remove and install the toilets. Gonna save some big money! Thank you Leah! You are my new guru of DIY home improvement!
Thank you Leah!!! You have empowered me to DIY so many projects. Removing an old toilet & installing a new one is my latest. I would never have tried it without your encouraging, easy to follow, and step by step videos. You are the best!
I agree, you need your own TV home improvement show. You have got a natural talent and personality for it. Great teacher. I felt as if I was there. I watched this because I am about to DIY my own two bathroom. I am pretty handy and a fast learner so I like watching and learning. Thanks.
Thank you for a very comprehensive video. So many people skip what may not seem like important steps, but your video is by far the most helpful I have come across. Again, thank you.
I have to give it to you. You did a great job explaining how it is done in a simple easy way. It might be a little long for someone who knows what they’re doing, but for someone who’s never done it before they will love you for it! Well done.
It's been a long time since I've removed and installed a toilet and this video was exactly what I needed to see to help remind me what yo do. Good job!
Leah, I watched several videos before stumbling onto yours. 35 years ago as a single, struggling mom, someone said I could do it, and I did (toddler put a deodorant stick in there). Now 57, I find myself having to do it again. This time, it’s my cats, swiping something into there! Your demonstration was on point. Clear, concise, & motivational. Thank you, Thank you. I’m going to have to subscribe, at this point.
Thank you Leah! This video gave me the confidence to replace the wax ring on my toilet. Your encouragement made it possible for me to successfully complete this intimidating repair. GRATITUDE!👍
Totally agree. Gave me a smile. I chuckled at the scene where you're sitting on the bowl to smush the wax ring. OK, time to get started on mine, and I'm feeling relzxed about it thanks to you.
New home owner. Doing all the work ourselves, well the majority of it. I check her TH-cam channel first and am always thankful when she has a video on a project we are starting. She explains things so well and makes sure to cover those small unique details that are critical to a successful project.
Great video, I am a super in NYC in The Village for 25 years I have done hundreds of toilets and just recently started using the blue tape my self,my eyes are not what they used to be .The nuts and washer under the bowl holding the bolts secure is something I saw a long time ago and simply forgot .Thanks for the video Take a tip from me you can never stop learning in life as long as you allow yourself to be open to suggestions.
Fantastic video I am 77yr old lady and just put in a new toilet followed all instructions and no leaks!! Saved 250.00 and did not have any help. So pleased!
Love your step by step tutorial! It is Perfect! Your clear and precise delivery, as well as your use of clear detailed visuals gives me confidence that I can install a toilet, without a lot of issues. You definitely are a professional instructor with an understanding of the basics and what a person needs to know and do to complete a project with success. I am a senior woman looking to conquer new adventures and save a little money as well. Thank you!
me too, 81 and about to install a new toilet for the second time by myself. My floor has a few warps and uneven spots so hope I can make it work. It sure is heavy to haul into the house though, I dragged the bottom part in from the outside on a tarp.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Never in a million years would I have thought I'd have to install a toilet, but here we are. Outstanding directions and explanations. Success on my first try and I got to keep the $350 the plumber wanted! Really appreciate your time in posting this. Many, many thanks.
I had just started watching your channel recently. Didn't think I would be back here today, but had a toilet fail this morning. I removed the old toilet and sealed hole temporarily, but wasn't sure about installing a new one. When I searched, your excellent video came up. Bought same brand of toilet, now I'm installing tomorrow! Thank you for your great instruction.
Thank you Leah!! I live alone and am going to have to change the toilet out in the master bath by myself. I have put in toilets before but usually with help. Your tips about the masking tape and the nut on the bolt so it doesn't move are going to make this a whole lot easier.
Thanks so much. I installed a toilet about 30 years ago, with a friend, and needed to remember :-) Your video was the best, thank you. BTW I have watched other videos of yours, you're great. Your videos reflect exactly what can or is going on or going wrong. I love the tips you add.

Fantastic video. I like that you are smart enough not to caulk the bottom of the toilet. Most people still think that is smart. But it simply hides a leak until it has caused much more damage.
I always learned that caulking the bottom to the floor is not against leaks, but against creaks - without it, you have porcelain on ceramic, which you will hear creak when you sit on it.
This is the best way to explain to a diy homewoner how to do this. Thank you. Everything is clear and gives the person watching this how to think so his/her own common sense will be able to kick in.
back in the day, you were the first page i watched to learn home improvement, i know ill never meet you but i just wanted to thank you for sharing your knowledge, much love
Leah, thank you for your easy-to-follow tutorial! You were so pleasant, capable and confidence-inspiring. I really think this is easy enough for me to tackle (other than the weight of the toilet) so thanks for helping out.
Great video with thorough explanations. You show a great deal of patience and cover various situations that might be different. I hope everyone realizes that you have to take the rag out of the hole before you start installing the new toilet, or else you will have a huge clog situation :).
I looked at several videos before yours showed up iin my feed. I don't know why I wasted my time viewing those other ones. I KNOW BETTER! You are the best Leah! I will be tackling this project alone but I can DO THIS! Thanks friend!
Thank you Jane. I am a big fan of you. I was watching you on my brake at work and one of my coworkers laugh at me. Saying how a lady can teach you how to do construction work. My response was . She knows what she is doing and she is a great teacher. After few days he become a fan of ya too.
I am looking to install brand new toilet in my property I did my search on how to install a Kohler toilet and 10 video so far in no one shows how to install a new toilet. I will say that this one is by far the most informative and detailed instructional video I have ever seen in my life! perfect camera angles perfect instruction. you are absolutely Stellar in making instructional videos. I will have to search to see if you have other instructional Plumbing or electrical videos to help me finish my home that has needed the toilets and sinks installed for the last 4 years and not one person in the state of Utah has any idea on how to do any of this basic stuff. wasted $60,000 and still no toilets or sinks have been installed. So I'm deciding she do all this myself.
Hi Arlene, glad you found us. And yes, you can definitely do so much of this yourself. We have 200 videos out...if you go to our website, you can find them categorized by subject...electrical, plumbing, carpentry, etc.
I was so worried I'd screw up the wax ring. You made me feel so relaxed I just said to hell with it and went in there and blew it out. Regardless of whether it leaks or not I'll feel good remembering this video. :) hehe
Update: Wax ring is fine. I did have one of the back tank screws get out of kilter. Well that screw leaked. I unscrewed both used a shopvac to remove the water. Wiggled and jiggled the tank till that screw was not tilted and tightened them back down only to leak again... Most things involving rubber gaskets I've learned over the years are NOT to be over tightened. Well in this case its the opposite. What I thought was tight wasn't tight enough. I eventually manhandled it and got it leak free. *sigh*
Awesome video! I’m a single mom and no one to help me and this by far was the best video I’ve seen on removing and replacing a new toilet. Thank you so much, Leah! 😊
This is how to install your own toilet for dummies. Thank you for such an awesome and patient explanation. Now I have the courage to install my own toilet.
The water supply here comes out on the top of the tank (the side). But it's the same procedure. ^^ One tip: if the toilet is super heavy and you're home alone, remove the tank first. Only two bolts hold in place, and are to be found on the bottom of the tank behind the toilet. Not always easy to reach them when you don't have a lot of space, but it can be done as I have proven to myself. ;) Once the tank is removed you'll find it more easier the lift the darn thing and your back will be thankful. :p
I am pretty handy, but wow. So glad to have found someone who is calm, detailed and gives more than one scenario. I start out projects knowing what to do but constantly worried about the what ifs. No longer will this be a problem. You cover it ALL. Have a great day. You've made mine so much better.
I’m glad I watched your video first Leah. I purchased a new toilet a few years ago, it’s duo flush still in the box. I’m going to check the directions to see whether the inside of the bowl is a simple install. Something I wouldn’t have thought about before I start this job. I’ve always been one to repair, replace or change whatever and I must say since my relatives who had their own businesses in construction are no longer around you are the best I’ve seen. Thank you!😊
I never did anything like this. Thank you for being a great guide. At age 65, this lawyer has done his first plumbing job!.
I have replaced doors, replaced toilets, and installed new electrical boxes successfully after watching your videos. Thanks for being awesome!

I agree, you need your own TV home improvement show. You have got a natural talent and personality for it. Great teacher. I felt as if I was there. I watched this because I am about to DIY my own two bathroom. I am pretty handy and a fast learner so I like watching and learning. Thanks.
Kinshun Mui Thank you very much...I appreciate the compliment! Good luck with your bathrooms.
I just love how you explain everything in detail! You're awesome.
Good job!
SO Helpful! I love how accessible Leah makes this task to a layperson like myself. Thank you!!!
I have to remove and check two toilets.
Your overview was excellent.
Thank you.
Thank you so much Leah. This is the best tutorial I have found for replacing a toilet.
😊
This is the most encouraging a toilet installation video could ever be. Thank you!
This is the clearest and most complete instructional video on toilet installation I’ve ever seen. Thank you Leah!
me too yes, I also loved Handy Dandy Andy's presentation.
Im so glad this is you. Music to my ears when I heard your voice. Im ready to learn!!!
GRATITUDE!👍
I just wanted to let you know that you are amazing at explanations. I love your videos.
thanks, Morgan, I appreciate it!
Just watched your video today and you step by step helped me remove and install a new toilet! Thank you! Great video!
+MADNESS INC COOKOO very cool, thanks for writing!
Hands down the best step by step tutorial including little tricks of the trade on how to install a toilet.
Fantastic video I am 77yr old lady and just put in a new toilet followed all instructions and no leaks!! Saved 250.00 and did not have any help. So pleased!
You're such a great instructor if someone was to hire an instructor I personally recommend you.
I just put 2 toilets in using this video. You're amazing at the details! They were so easy too. Thank you so much!
Masking tape & nut underneath toilet to hold toilet bolt steady. Great ideas.
By far this is the best video on installing a toilet. Thank you Lea!! You are the best. I definitely will follow you on other projects.
Thanks so much. I installed a toilet about 30 years ago, with a friend, and needed to remember :-) Your video was the best, thank you.
BTW I have watched other videos of yours, you're great. Your videos reflect exactly what can or is going on or going wrong. I love the tips you add.
Very helpful and comprehensive. I also just love your attitude and positivity
I came here as a simple reminder. However, I stayed the entire video. Great teacher!
Thank you, i watched most all these videos on youtube on how to install a toilet, and i undertsand more when i watched yours.

Fantastic video. I like that you are smart enough not to caulk the bottom of the toilet. Most people still think that is smart. But it simply hides a leak until it has caused much more damage.
+C Squared thanks, and that is true
Thanks a lot Jane. I have a friend plumber who want to do the job for me but I decide to DIM.
I just purchased a house and they had a plumber come in and fix leaky sinks and caulk the toilet to the floor. Should scrape it away?
I always learned that caulking the bottom to the floor is not against leaks, but against creaks - without it, you have porcelain on ceramic, which you will hear creak when you sit on it.
@@seejanedrill So Leah I shouldn't caulk around the toilet?
You are a great instructor, the TH-cam audience is fortunate to view your channel.
This is the best way to explain to a diy homewoner how to do this. Thank you. Everything is clear and gives the person watching this how to think so his/her own common sense will be able to kick in.
Leah, all I can say is you’re awesome! Thank you, thank you, great step by step info...
Leah, I like the way you make things seem easy, I learnt a lot from your video, thanks
You are an EXCELLENT Teacher!! Top Marks! Thank you.
MyKkata You're welcome, and I appreciate the compliment! :)
back in the day, you were the first page i watched to learn home improvement, i know ill never meet you but i just wanted to thank you for sharing your knowledge, much love
Perfect ! An absolute perfect tutorial for a 'first timer'. The tape trick was the best.
Thank You, So Much.
Yes yours is by far the best video , you help us to understand how things work ❤️
I looked at several videos before yours showed up iin my feed.
After few days he become a fan of ya too.
love leah!! after watching her perfect instructions, i'm going to install it myself. thanks leah!!!!

This was a lot simpler than anticipated, thank you for your guidance!
Leah’s that cool friend who knows how to do stuff. Thank you for this video. It really helped me save time and money!
Wow... I am new to this channel and I am a single mother and this video is exactly what I needed. 🙏🏽 Thank You!
Thank you for showing dirty rusty bolts! Every other video shows nice clean bolts that come right off that don't exist in the real world lol
N Holt :)
*sigh*
nice!
When will you get your own TV show? I like how you make things non intimidating, that anyone can do the task. THANK YOU!
Anthony Lumpkin :) Thanks, Anthony!
Just what I was thinking while watching She needs her own show!
I think she would put too many repair companies out of business if she had a tv show.
DITTO!
Awesome video! I’m a single mom and no one to help me and this by far was the best video I’ve seen on removing and replacing a new toilet. Thank you so much, Leah! 😊
my pleasure
This is how to install your own toilet for dummies. Thank you for such an awesome and patient explanation. Now I have the courage to install my own toilet.
The water supply here comes out on the top of the tank (the side). But it's the same procedure. ^^
One tip: if the toilet is super heavy and you're home alone, remove the tank first. :p
+TheOpelkoenjas That's excellent advice, you could certainly do it that way to save your back.
+TheOpelkoenjas Good tip! Didn't think about that.
Thank so much for sharing your knowledge, it's very much appreciated.
My parents were going to call someone to do this for them I think I’m just going to surprise them instead
Thank you!😊
