- T-Fox faces wild places, challenging trail and loneliness on her first solo thru-hike: The 1100km Great Divide Trail through the Canadian Rockies.
She attempted a SOBO thru-hike in 2019, but due to sub-optimal weather, and increased loneliness, she got off the trail ~350 kilometres shy of the end, completely ~800 kilometres total.
In 2020, she went back to the trail where she left off, in hopes of completing her hike of the Great Divide Trail in it's entirety.

Oooooo ya, that's what I'm talking about. Great edit, and way to go T! That hail was HUGE haha. That HRT looks like a dandy.
The hail was insane. I was walking among second or third growth forest, so hiding under the trees was pretty poor shelter, so I got completely destroyed by it! It only lasted ~10 minutes, but it feels like it will never end. The HRT is pretty awesome - WORLDS BETTER than the road walk.

I haven't explored that much because we use Ursack's normally, but quite a few people are using the BV450 in this pack. Not sure which other ones fit.
Wait, where are all the mosquitoes? Did you edit them out 😉
Barely any mosquitoes! I was out there in July, which would have mosquitoes in certain elevations and areas, but B was pretty much free of them. The horseflies on the other hand...I have never seen them so bad! It was so hot, but I refused to stop because of them! Every time I did, I would have 4 or 5 land on me at once, and would inevitably get bit. They hurt!

I am\was planning for a PCT thru-hike in 2022, but with covid. I'm not sure If I want to make a commitment of telling my job I want a 6 month leave, when I'm not even sure I could make it...
The GDT is here in Canada, so I could just go there and commit to a 2-2.5 month job leave.
But I think one part that also attracts me from the PCT is all the people you meet, on the GDT, you don't seem to meet a lot of people on trail! :P
Also in your opinion, is re-supplying harder on the GDT than on the PCT?
Hey T dog, can you or Dan answer a question for me? You two are the most experienced yo-yos and you doing it solo so wondering when is the best time to nobo with less bugs and is it possible to do with a dog? I have a two year old Blue Heeler so endurance not an issue, just if there is straight vert scrambles? Also just got an Xmid for this very quest😜
The terrain will be fine for your dog. I think most of the GDT is dog-legal except for a portion of Section E, but I haven't looked into that much.
The bugs are a lot better in August and great in September, so if you start closer to mid-July then you'll have pretty minimal bugs
