Iv'e always wanted to tell a history teacher this, but try to include history from around 8000+ BCE and 300 CE+ Their both really interesting time periods. As well as this if there is a point where they are studying inventors mention lesser known ones like Nicola Tesla.
JerryDaMiry - Telsa isn't really lesser known. And the problem with teaching specific time periods is that I'd have to be teaching a class specifically about those things. Going into the 8000+ BCE range would probably be better suited for an anthropology or archaeology course due to the lack of real "history" to go over there. 300+ CE would really depend on whose history I'm covering
I watched a video on the scientific things about Santa Claus from how big the reindeers' hooves would have to be to allow flight to how fast Santa would have to go to deliver all the presents. I don't remember the exact numbers, but it basically used science to disprove Santa Claus. We were in high school, so it's not like we were shocked that he didn't exist. I never believed in Santa Claus because I didn't celebrate Christmas until I was a teenager and too old to believe in Santa Claus. (I was raised Jewish, and I have a very strong imagination and would create elaborate stories in my head, so a child who never believed in Santa Claus because they weren't raised in a Christian family and was never taught he was real or whatever the reason is will turn out just fine and still have a strong imagination. (I'm not saying this to brag about how even as a child, I knew Santa Claus was fake. I had ridiculous beliefs as well. Santa was just not part of my culture.)
CosmicSkeptic I think not. Santa has the same concept and effect as the God of the Bible does. Sure it may be a tactic to make Christmas exciting and get children to behave "good" all year but I think you can get the same effect just by being a good parent if not better and you can still celebrate Christmas as others do. Plus it will have more of an impact as a parent. but I think they should be definitely informed of Santa which would cover that even the things you were told as a kid aren't always true but to pass a moral or lesson.
I kind of like the Neil deGrasse Tyson approach as opposed to outright lying. It's the "some people say..." approach to telling them about things like Santa or the Tooth Fairy. "Some people say that on Christmas Eve, Santa brings gifts to all the children of the world". It allows them to believe and eventually critically assess the story without actually lying to them about it.
Hey, I'm a Catholic and I personally love your point of view. You are so intellectual and well spoken. As a 16 year old, I can just say there are few people around like you in our generation. Do keep up the great work!
@AquaticBoardwalkEngineer Catholics believe in scientific stuff like Evolution, heliocentrism, a spherical Earth, and all that stuff. The Catholic Church has issues, but their stance on science isn't one of them.
They hate condoms. If we had a cheap or free way to tell when a woman is ovulating, Catholics would probably make it so you can only have sex whenever she's ovulating. They believe the sole purpose of sex is procreation, and condoms and birth control prevent that.
I'm glad that a young brilliant person is getting attention on TH-cam it shows that more people are awakening from the slumber of religion. Skepticism and thinking without fear about even the dearest and more soothing beliefs is liberating.
Yes. I do believe you should lie to your kids about Santa. Here's why: My parents always told me santa was real, I specifically remember my dad relaying an anecdote about seeing Santa look in his window and I also remember hearing thumping on my roof (which was probably falling snow of the giant tree in our front yard) on christmas eve. It made every christmas exciting... Until I was 10-11. I remember spending that entire christmas season trying to rationalise the existence of the man, (maybe to hold onto my childhood, maybe to prove my friends wrong), but I couldn't. I remember looking out my window on Christmas Eve begging Santa to give me a sign, anything to let me know he was out there... to no avail. My parents came in to wish me goodnight and seeing me looking out the window they were like, "What's up?". I turned to them and asked them straight up if Santa was real... and after a 5 second delay, my dad said no and my mom said yes lol. Then they both said no. My mom started to cry, and that sort of threw me over the edge. We talked for a bit about why we hold up the myth. Its all about letting kids be kids. But they also said its about questioning everything and critical thinking because sure, puberty marks the biological time you start becoming an adult, but I FIRMLY believe when you debunk Santa by yourself... that's the time where you start becoming an adult mentally. And now that I reached that point in the video, you agree with me. Props.
Hello! I thought you might appreciate some kind words so here I go; Your voice is incredibly soothing to listen to (Not in a creepy way but also kind of?) and it makes listening to you theorising and explaining things a lot of fun! You are always so kind and reasonable. I know your reasons for it as you explained them in a video, but I think you deserve more credit for it. It's also a nice change to listen to someone respectful instead of someone who keeps ridiculing and belittling others. Your arguments are always backed up by facts and solid ground. It's really nice to hear someone not only explain what they think of something, but also why. Followed by examples of facts. Well done. You seem charismatic and a good conversationalist, although your channel isn't as large as others, you don't have the underlying hint of awkwardness most smaller channels have. You are also handsome, just thought I'd bring it to your attention. Have a lovely weekend!
Such a wise head on such young shoulders. When I was 17 (and that was in 1970) I was an opinionated git, I though I knew it all when in reality I knew nothing. I wish you well my friend, you deserve every subscriber you have and many more.
I have watched most of your videos , although I found your channel few days ago. Keep it up and don't go easy on them , I'm like a single light in a very dark universe , where I live Muslims say music is even forbidden , if anyone finds out about me being not religious it'd cost me my life , so remember how lucky you are and raise your voice for those like me who can't express a single word. I'm also 17 and abandoned religion 3 years ago. Good luck!!
The music was great. I loved the whole thing. The birds wow. The logo video. Not to mention the content. Glad to see my patron dollar going to such good use.
Late in learning about your channel and this post, but as a mom of 2 young children would like to add my perspective on the Santa Claus issue. Since he was about 4, we have had conversations with our son that generally start with "some people believe..." We use this technique when discussing Santa Claus, religious beliefs and opinions. So far this has worked well in allowing him to explore his own thoughts about such issues and, although he is still young (now 6), we try to press him on thinking through his opinions/beliefs. This has also helped us in dealing with religious family members as we emphasize that it is okay for people to have different beliefs and opinions on things, thus it is okay if a classmate believes in Santa Claus and he does not and it is okay that Grammy and Pappy believe in god and that mom and dad do not, etc. This has also led to great conversations about the difference between beliefs/opinions (ideas that are not absolutely shared and cannot be scientifically proven) vs. facts that can be proven with our current best science. (For those of you counting, our 2nd child is only 2 and thus still working on forming sentences, so the "some people believe..." conversations will have to wait.)
Ahh! Yes! I'm certainly in agreement with you about stating that parents should give respect to where they expect it from. That commandment has empowered and mislead too many parents throughout the years LOL #SeriousThough
I love Sgt. Peppers, the Beatles and the Doors are the two biggest influences on me getting into writing music and playing guitar/other stringed instruments
Snazzy hat. But in all seriousness, congratulations on 20,000 subs! Already you're nearly at 30 k. I really appreciate the way you handle your responses to people, and how you are able to look at the other side without bias. A very admirable quality.
hopefully the global community will grow out of deistic & theistic religion more importantly, hopefully, the world will replace it something more effective at morality and social glue. hopefully more people can develop healthy bonds with neighbors in circles small and astronomical,
Under 5 days after posting your 20k you've reached 30k, that's Awesome! Love your stuff, great ideas and thoughts, excellent responses, and you articulate so well. Please keep it up, amazing job! ^_^
Santa is not a lie. Hes is a fairy tale, he is poetry, he is the creative hope that will always have a place in the world. I will be your Santa. What did you want for Christmas? Remember to get a tree and leave the milk n cookies.
It was while watching a Holy Koolade vid that I was cross-linked to one of your vids. Cool that you bring it full circle. : ) Keep up the awesome work.
hi, I dont know if you read your comments but I would just like to say that I love your channel after only discovering it today. Please continue making videos. You inspire me and I get lots of joy from watching your videos. thankyou and congratulations on 20,000 subscribers! Hopefully many more!
"I think that faith schools are divisive and they teach children about our differences rather than our similarities." Well put. I didn't even go to a catholic school but they forced beliefs onto us and encouraged ignorance rather than to challenge beliefs. Im so glad to be in college now
I find it hilarious that 2 weeks ago he uploaded a 20,000 subs video, and now he has basically 40,000 hahah. Keep it up Alex, you're clearly doing it right!
We elected to "lie" to our kids about Santa when they were very little, then I used it as a lesson in doing the right thing for its own sake rather because you will be praised for doing it. Basically when they were old enough to ask if Santa was real I told them the story of St. Nicholas how he quietly and anonymously giving money to those in desperate need (doesn't matter if that story is real or not). Then I told them that they have the opportunity now that they are old enough to understand to continue on the spirit of selfless giving and by doing so they are helping to make Santa "real". When my oldest reached that stage I recruited her to help be Santa for her little brother so we could keep that sense of wonder alive in him until he was old enough to understand. It was wonderful to see her feeling all grown up (as any 5 year old does when they are let in on an adult "secret") and she kept the secret for two years. Her little brother didn't have a younger sibling to play Santa to, but he did have younger friends in the neighborhood. We gave him presents the next year to give to the parents of two of his friends saying that these were to be labeled as coming from Santa since he didn't want them to feel bad because they didn't get him anything. He just knew they really wanted a given toy and he wanted them to have it.
Congratulations on your latest milestone. I'm happy to say I'm a recent subscriber to your channel and I'm so glad I have found it. Always good content, always fair and always looking from both sides of the subject. That is a very rare thing these days and it's so refreshing. Keep up the good work. I think you would have made a great teacher if your career path had gone that way. Have a wonderful Christmas. By the way, I do lie to my kids about Santa and my eldest daughter lies to me that she believes in him :-) no harm done to either of us. At least Santa or Father Christmas was based on the lives and actions of real life people. Unlike other characters from some books that try to lead us to believe their main character is real.
Almost 30k subscribers, meaning you need to do the 3rd one ;) Question time, pie or cake? :) Now, real question, have you read Terry Pratchett's Discworld? Have you read The Science of the Discworld books? I find interesting that in the disc, gods created the fossil record to actually trick future archeologists.
Hey man, excellent work on your videos. You have actually given me a lot of knowledge. You make really entertaining videos and I agree with everything you talk about. Good luck with your channel bro.
I pretty recently found your channel and just wanted to say how I've really enjoyed the content coming out of it. You're really professional and seem pretty smart. Congrats on nearly 40k subs !
Wow, about just a few days ago was the time when I asked my partner what he is thinking about Santa, and if we would have child in the future what he thinks, how we should handle that? I don't really wanna tell my children lies, but I would like to tell them the moral back of it. At the end we ended up in this: We will tell about Santa as a legend, that people saw him as a good followable person, the act he did was so good that people nowdays still salute him as clothing up like Santa Claus and bringing presents. And if he also want to share that good, that fantastic feeling of getting something from Santa, he/she can do it too by packing up unwanted toys to a shoebox, then giving it up to charity.
Congratulations brilliant Sir, also congratulations on now gaining 14,000+ subs in the past 6 days dayymn. I am also a fan of your rad guitar skillz, as I myself play. Cheers lad! (I tried to sound English for you smh)
My parents told me there was a Santa and I am so glad they did. Not only did it make Xmas more fun but I worked out the truth on my own and that made me start looking into everything I was told by anyone. Probably one of the reasons I'm not just another crazy Kentucky bible thumper. Also my parents are religious but not nearly as much as most people around here so that probably helped too.
Just found your channel yesterday and i absolutely love your vids. I'd say congrats for hitting 20k, but i guess i'll just save that for the 30k mark in another day or 2. ^^
I cannot believe that you only have 20k subscribers. You definitely deserve more. I am a new subscriber and watched almost all of your videos! Good luck on your next milestone and hope you make more videos in the future!
How does it feel to have the sudden burst of followers? I've followed you for a couple months now, but have noticed the sudden rise in subscribers. Naturally, I love the rise myself, as you deserve every follower. But just a month ago you hit 20,000, but now 60,000. Congrats mate.
I don't know if anyone will read this or can help me. Although I thought atheism was a dead topic a month after discovering it, but its currently affecting my life. So recently I've met a girl our personalities meshed so well together and we've had so many jokes and had really funny conversations. We spent so much time together and she made me feel a way I'v never really felt before. I really liked her and we had virtually everything in common, so a few days before christmas I made a move and gave her a few gifts as well as a card telling her how I felt in a comical way. She loved it, even hung the card right above her bed, and immediately asked me if I wanted to go watch a movie. I of course said yes. So we went, we had a great time, and thats when she broke it to me. During christmas she went to her church and asked her friends on what she should do se even asked her church teacher, and they told her its a sin to date an atheist and that she would go to hell for it. Despite this she told me that she liked me, and gave me the opportunity to convert. I don't know what I should do, should I just move on? I don't know what to do all of her friends keep spamming my phone with a message reading convert, but I don't think I can believe lies so easily. And I know it's dumb to even ask, although Iv had relationships in the past nobody has really ever made me feel like she has. Any response would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
Man that's a tough position to be in. The problem is that forced conversion is illegitimate; do you think God would be content with 'yes I'm a Christian but only to please a girl I like'? My golden rule is usually that if someone can't accept that I may hold different religious or political views to them, I have no time for them. But I understand that this is slightly different. You could point out to this girl that this is a wonderful opportunity for you both to learn about each others' beliefs - you could have very interesting late night discussions and explain how you differently interpret the world. I find it incredibly dull to be with someone who is entirely similar to me, as there is then hardly any room for interesting conversation. Also remind her that it doesn't matter what the church of her friends say, they do not hold the answers or best interpretations any more than she you or I does, and so if she can get by dating an atheist, there is no reason why she shouldn't. I hope you figure things out!
I’m pretty much over it, I think just needed to talk about it. Since it kinda hurts when basically Harry Potter steals your girl. I also don’t think talking to her about will help. Whenever religion was brought up I always took the agnostic position since I didn’t want to scare her off by the intensity of my beliefs, even then she tried to deflect and ignore the entire situation. The only time we really talked about religion is when she told me she was going on a retreat and how great Jesus was, to which I told her that I thought the bible was fine but I told her to make her own decisions/ interpretations about the scripture instead of letting others telling her how to feel about the book since these people are inherently human and don’t know anymore then she would by reading the book. Furthermore, I explained when people have power and in specific religious power generally leads to abuse as seen in the cases of the Romans, French, and Germans. She ignored it and called me crazier then Alex Jones then she changed the conversation. I also thought we agreed politically, I thought that we had a left-libertarian perspective since we would joke about all of these progressive stances and basically didn’t care what people did. However, I honestly think she is homophobic, whenever I would make a gay joke or we would see a gay couple she would put a finger to her mouth and pretend to vomit, and would say Jesus hates gays, and I would continue the joke thinking she was joking as well, but now I’m not so sure. Thinking about that disgusted me. Did we have a similar personality since we were exposed to the same things and she absorbed them or did she come to the terms on her own out of critical thinking? If she’s a sheep and I fell for her personality, what personality does she have? I’m going to use this moment to help me, to improve myself and to understand what I really want. Thanks for the help, as well as the response.
Wow. Firstly, I honestly think that CosmicSkeptic gave you the absolute best advice. I really cannot think of anything to add without becoming an eco-chamber. This very situation you are in/were in, is particularly one that I have feared (subtly) to happen with me as an atheist. I want a girl that is different from me enough to be interesting, but there are certain fundamental similarities I feel we must share, like religious views. I specifically do not like the anti-progressiveness, conflict and frustration that is very likely to come with a person that I like who turns out to be religious; specifically the very issues you faced with this girl as well (Her being homophobic and her being sandwich between her family's religious beliefs and your lack of religious belief, while heavily lenient to and influenced by her family's beliefs and having no chain of thought of her own on the matter.). Scary stuff. But I wish you the best man. I trust you will know what is best for you.
We raise all of our children with the awareness that fairytales are just really great stories and nothing more...whether it's Santa or Jesus or Hansel and Gretel. Our two-year-old has taken to trying to convince us that WE'RE wrong and Santa is absolutely real because we have a chimney. I'm pretty sure it's the first time in history that a 2-year-old has had to fight to convert his parents to Santa's side.
We chose not to celebrate christmas but new year. We give our children presents and tell them we do because we love them. We also go with our children to buy or make a present for the others so they give each other and us presents...
Got a 3 year old and a 1 year old, and they're told Santa is like donald duck, or God. Just imaginary, fairy tale characters. I think it's odd to question why so many people have trust issues when their own parents lie to them through their entire childhood. Have some respect, people. Your children are humans, too, and deserve the same amount of honesty and respect as anyone else.
I have been watching Holy Koolaid for awhile now, he is good! Also, Joel Osteen as your favorite actor... bahahaha. nice one. Congratulations on the 20K!
I've lied to Santa about my kids. Now I have all these great presents.
Rrrrrrrrrrr good one, ya sneaky devillllll!
Yarrh - they're over tharr on tha dead mans chest. Had to clear out them 15 guys and empty tha bottle to make room fer it all.

I'm in school to be a history teacher. It makes me feel pretty damn happy to hear you praise teachers.
I wish you luck in your studies
I had great history teachers. Don't lose your passion for teaching!
fishlove69 I can't see a reason I would.

Ooh, a shout out! Thanks, Alex. Congratulations on breaking 20,000! And almost 30,000 a week later! :)
"how do you celebrate Christmas if you don't believe in God?"
"I don't know Jessica, how do you celebrate Valentine's day if nobody loves you?"
What? Your saying Santa ain't real??!?! *Slams down the peer reviewed studies*
Honestly, this just killed me lol
A.R.K Dean yah! we will science these bitches about Santa, flying reindeer, and elves!
I watched a video on the scientific things about Santa Claus from how big the reindeers' hooves would have to be to allow flight to how fast Santa would have to go to deliver all the presents. Do you think we should lie to children about Santa?
if they eventually grow out of it, and if there's no mention of god in the lie itself, sure!
While Santa is a personality that I like to share with kids, I tell my granddaughter about St. Nicholas...and it's the idea of sharing with others.
No.

I think you are a wonderfully thoughtful and insightful. Please keep it up!
You are a worthy successor to the great Christopher Hitchens. It's good to see the baton being passed to the next generation.

I see 37000 subscribers. Way to go. It means just one thing: Your topics do resonate with a fairly large number of TH-cam watchers.
In less than two weeks you've gained around 30,000 more subscribers! that's pretty cool, good for you.
Christopher Hitchens turned me from not caring about Religion to caring about it
Tobias F In what way? did you go religious or want to save them from wanton dillusiones.
Guy The Incognito I used to just not care about religion one way or the other, but after watching Hitchens I realized just how harmful religion can be
Tobias F hopefully the world will grow out of it completely.

Oh, and happy new year!

It was while watching a Holy Koolade vid that I was cross-linked to one of your vids. Cool that you bring it full circle. : ) Keep up the awesome work.
"Joel Olesteen" LOL SAVAGE
Fucking brilliant
Can you explain it to me? I don't get it.
@@NaNa_W4NT5_F3MNM5 Joel Osteen is an American televangelist who preaches the prosperity gospel and asks for money on TV.
@@Soapandwater6 Thanks for the reply. I didn't expect to get one since it's already been a year.

Going to be fun to see your channel grow, hope the explosion comes fast. Happy holidays!
hi, I dont know if you read your comments but I would just like to say that I love your channel after only discovering it today. Please continue making videos. You inspire me and I get lots of joy from watching your videos. thankyou and congratulations on 20,000 subscribers! Hopefully many more!
Keep up the good work, you helped me a lot and you're the main person who helped me become atheist. You're almost at 40k, good luck.
"I think that faith schools are divisive and they teach children about our differences rather than our similarities."
Well put. I didn't even go to a catholic school but they forced beliefs onto us and encouraged ignorance rather than to challenge beliefs. Im so glad to be in college now
keep up the good content
I find it hilarious that 2 weeks ago he uploaded a 20,000 subs video, and now he has basically 40,000 hahah. Keep it up Alex, you're clearly doing it right!
CONGRATS FOR 40,000 SUBSCRIBERS!!!!
your work is amazing.....best of luckk!!!
And a merry Christmas to you too!
I love that you watch Holy Koolaid. he's so good :3
:D
Dude your branding and animations are fantastic.
You've allmost doubled your subscriber count in 6 days! Well deserved, good sir.
YESS holy koolaid is great i've been watching them for a while
We elected to "lie" to our kids about Santa when they were very little, then I used it as a lesson in doing the right thing for its own sake rather because you will be praised for doing it.
Congrats!
My husband is a teacher and a damn great one.
Cheers from Canada! :)
the credulousness of that last question/statement was amazing. embodies everything wrong with a religious mindset.
Santa is not a lie, You just have to accept him in your heart.
Holy! This is a video from a couple weeks ago and you're already twice the number of subscribers you're celebrating in this q&a! Congrats
I'm not even an athiest and I like your channel, you're just so reasonable.
ye telling me he got 12,000 subs in 5 days. Completely deserved.
20k yesterday when you published the video and almost 25k today? W-o-W
Way to go! Congrats :)
Almost 30k subscribers, meaning you need to do the 3rd one ;)
Question time, pie or cake? :)
Now, real question, have you read Terry Pratchett's Discworld? Have you read The Science of the Discworld books? I find interesting that in the disc, gods created the fossil record to actually trick future archeologists.
Almost 30k already LETS GOO :D
I believe the obvious ones are the most important to keep.
Hey man, excellent work on your videos. You have actually given me a lot of knowledge. You make really entertaining videos and I agree with everything you talk about. Good luck with your channel bro.
You are quickly becoming my favourite youtuber, congrats on the success
Liked your shoutout to holy koolaid. I subbed to him maybe a week before i found your videos so its cool to see you talk about him.
I pretty recently found your channel and just wanted to say how I've really enjoyed the content coming out of it. You're really professional and seem pretty smart. Congrats on nearly 40k subs !
I'm si glad I found your channel. You are very smart, and I really enjoy listening to you. Merry christmas :)
Found your channel today, I am absolutely in love with it ! Keep up the good work bro :)
I'm sorry I had to pause it at 2:35 because that was epic!
Now compose myself to continue watching.
Love Holy Kool Aid, nice pick!
Wow, so the message is: hold a 20K subscriber extravaganza, and a week later you'll be at 40K. Nicely done, sir. Congratulations!
Just found your channel yesterday and i absolutely love your vids. I'd say congrats for hitting 20k, but i guess i'll just save that for the 30k mark in another day or 2. ^^
Had no idea you made music, listened to some and it's awesome! Keep it up man 50k well earned
I cannot believe that you only have 20k subscribers. You definitely deserve more. I am a new subscriber and watched almost all of your videos! Good luck on your next milestone and hope you make more videos in the future!
So glad I found you're channel m8, congrats!
How does it feel to have the sudden burst of followers? I've followed you for a couple months now, but have noticed the sudden rise in subscribers. Naturally, I love the rise myself, as you deserve every follower. But just a month ago you hit 20,000, but now 60,000. Congrats mate.
Hey love your channel hope you grow to 100k subscribers next year! Not a bad goal in my opinion.
Whoop here we are 100k subscribers later
One of my favorite books A Short History of Nearly Everything: Bill Bryson ...
Have her watch Cosmic's channel to see if she stops believing in the existence of hell ,or heaven for that matter.
Yeah I doubt it, some people are just too far gone.
17 is absurd !!!!! such a one should live forever
Almost 25.000 ^^ Great job! Keep up the wonderful work!
I don't know why you're celebrating 20k its going to be 30k within the next weeks😂 congratulations!
Merry Cristmas! I absolutely love your content.
I love Beatles too. I want to travel to Liverpool from Denmark to watch the reds and The Beatles museum
love your videos, have a Merry Christmas and happy holidays!
