What a great video! I have never been, which is truly sad as I was born and raised in California. One day. But I am sure glad you not only made it, but produced a great collection of interviews!

Thanks for posting this video. In my neck of the woods... Writing instrumental commercially licensed music as writer/composer and self-administered publisher (BMI, Inc / The MLC) I've recently found some (not all) ukulele companies are only interested in how many subscribers are on a TH-cam channel and that it.. Not about the music that a person is playing and writing. It's great to see so many Ukulele companies out there then the usual mass marketed brands.

I bought my first serious uke from HUG Ukulele in Hilo. Love it, always a joy to play !

      Thanks for the comment Pablo.
The HUG ukulele team really seemed like good people with good instruments.🙂

Hi, Daniel! I enjoyed watching your interviews at NAMM and seeing all the new products. I like that you interviewed some lesser-known brands. There are usually many videos of interviews with the big brands but I bet yours is the only video interviewing some of these brands. I was impressed with Hug’s offerings and how concerned the interviewee is with providing inexpensive, good quality ukuleles for beginners. I have been looking into the Klos brand and was very excited to see the wood-look nickel finish for the first time! I love my Outdoor ukuleles and have been curious if these Klos ukuleles sound better than the Outdoor ukuleles (enough to compensate for the large price difference). I would love to hear that Klos 8-string ukulele! Thank you for doing all these interviews and for taking us along on your NAMM experience!

      Hi Jennifer,
      Thanks for the kind words.🙂
To me Kloss ukuleles do sound nicer than outdoor ukuleles.
      They are also tougher.
When I purchased my Outdoor Carbon Tenor several years ago it was for 3 main reasons.
      1. Wider nut and string spacing than Kloss. 38mm nut vs 35mm nut and 42.5mm at the saddle vs 39mm at the saddle.
      2. Outdoor fit under my driver seat where it lives when I am not playing it.
      3. Outdoor sounds fine for my use when hiking or sitting in my car waiting for family or friends.
Ian mentioned Kloss will be coming out with a thin body ukulele. If they make a thin body Timber Series model I may look at Kloss again.🙂
Lastly Bernadette did an unboxing and quick sound sample of her Kloss 8 string recently.🙂

@@funukuleleprojects3366 My Outdoor ukuleles also live in my car and are my lunch break ukuleles :) I have been so happy with them since they sound good for plastic ukuleles and have withstood years of living in my car through temperature extremes. That is good to know that the Klos ukuleles sound nicer than Outdoor since they are more expensive. I will definitely watch for more information about the Timber series. Maybe I can justify the expense then ;) Oh, very good - I will have to find Bernadette's video of the 8-string! Thank you for letting me know about it!

Daniel, this was so Interesting! I know quite a few beginners who love their Enyas's as s they can go anywhere with them. Sorry I didn't run into you❣

It would have been great to see you Susanna. I arrived mid Saturday afternoon and left Sunday shortly after I finished the interviews. I did talk with Eric about making a double bout Nova. He liked that idea and said Enya could but side fret markers on both sides to include lefties like me if they decide to do it.🙂

Not impressed with hug handmade ukuleles at all fit and finish very poor the mango not worth that kind of money I think anyone with any woodworking experience could buy a kit and do as good a job definitely not in the class as other Hawaiian hand builds

I did not have time to look closely at their Made in Hawaii Ukuleles.
For that matter I did not have time to try any of their ukuleles.
I did like the looks of several of their Import ukuleles. I did not need to get close to know the finish could definitely be improved on their Made In Hawaii ukuleles.
