  • An inlet air filtration system is essential for the successful operation of a gas turbine. The filtration system protects the gas turbine from harmful debris in the ambient air, which can lead to issues such as FOD, erosion, fouling, and corrosion. These issues if not addressed will result in a shorter operational life and reduced performance of the gas turbine. Modern day filtration systems are comprised of multiple filtration stages. Each stage is selected based on the local operating environment and the performance goals for the gas turbine. Selection of these systems can be a challenging task. This paper provides a review of the considerations for selecting an inlet filtration system by covering (1) the characteristics of filters and filter systems, (2) a review of the many types of filters, (3) a detailed look at the different environments where the gas turbine can operate, (4) a process for evaluating the site where the gas turbine will be or is installed, and (5) a method to compare various filter system options with life cycle cost analysis.

    I live in colder climate. The cold air makes our emissions for both co2 go high and nox go high. We are unable to add nox water because of the already high co2 reading. What method is there to “warm” that inlet air to stop this problem?

    How can we measure the mass flow rate of the incoming air?

    • @powerplantguru007
      @powerplantguru007  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for watching my videos.
      There is no measurements for incoming air and it will be different for different igv openings. But for total exhaust flow(air + fuel ) there is a calculated value available in gas turbines. If you know the tag number for your machine you can find the value

    and also you failed top mention if an inlet has mist elimanator or not and the effect of it on the filters and if one has chiller coils instead of an evap cooler or if it dosent have one at all

    Why does inlet air flow decrease when the load MW increases? What is the relationship ?

    • @powerplantguru007
      @powerplantguru007  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hello.
      Air flow increases as per MW increase. As higher MW requirement is higher fuel requirements and higher fuel requirements is higher air requirement.
      IGV plays that role to control the requirements of maneuvering the air flow.

    How filter can self cleaned...

    • @powerplantguru007
      @powerplantguru007  หลายเดือนก่อน

      APU is the unit which works for self cleaning. The air pressure from APU comes in opposite direction of normal flow and push the dust accumulation

      @powerplantguru007  หลายเดือนก่อน

      This will reduce the filter ageing

      @@powerplantguru007 How the opposite direction of normal flow can work..

    • @powerplantguru007
      @powerplantguru007  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The normal path from the air filter is outside to inside where atmospheric air is filtered and dust accumulation is on filter happen, in self cleaning cycle there is a solenoid operated compressed air supply is placed inside, once inside valve open cleaning is done

    Sir, whats affect the dp (differential pressure) to change? Whats the effect cause by this dp on a system?

    • @powerplantguru007
      @powerplantguru007  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for asking questions..
      Inlet air filters draws lot of air and with air, dust , sand aerosol fine particles come and they sit on the filter surfaces because air filters can prevent particles of more than 3 micron.
      Slowly these particles keep deposit on filter surfaces and reducing surface area from air can pass. This is when dp starts increasing.
      Now, you can imagine efforts from sucking air from clean filter and dirty filters. And this will cause in less air flow to compressor and then reducing the output. '
      Hope I have answered your questions.
      If not, please ask again. Will try to answer

      @@powerplantguru007 Thank you for the answer. I want to ask another question. When the dp high, it is indicates that the filter is already dirt or covered by the contaminants, the common action that we can take is just replace the dirty filter with the new one, and it will cost the company because they have to spent more, especially when the interval of the filter change is short. Is there any possibly solution to decrease the DP itself, and make the interval change of filter is longer? Thank you in advanced

      Hi thanks for reaching out.
      I would suggest a few things on this.
      1. Keep Check on pulsating air filters cleaning system pressure and it's all sov are working. Keep operator rounds and ask in each round if he can listen bump sounds of filters back cleaning.
      2. Keep a dust extraction conveyor in working condition from the dirty side of air filters.
      3. You can install a very low cost wrapper (type of filter) for covering air filters from outside, this will wrapper are washable and once you face sudden increase of dp you can remove those wrapper also and then you have relief from emergency. Then your wash the wrapper and again install. This way you can increase the life of filters.
