I saw out my military service in the then West Germany. I found the Germans to be really friendly towards us Brits and I think they generally do have a genuine liking for us. I went a couple of times to WC 2006 - Germany, but abstained from singing this song. Honestly didn't feel as though I was missing out. It could be seen as just 'bants' but there could also be justified claims of offence. Can you imagine the furore if German fans sang a 'jokey' song about Dunkirk? There actually might be one for all I know!
