I prefer Wingstop a little more, but both chains have horribly inconsistent restaurants. Some locations knock your socks off with great food and service, while others give you tiny wings and hire rude idiots.

I'll be honest inconsistency between locations is wide spread in the restaurant industry. No matter how hard a company tries or what policies they put in place.
It's a bit annoying to find the bad ones. But once you do it is easier to avoid them.

The fact that Wingstop has smaller locations/less over head might give them the edge in the long run. As long as they keep up their quality.

Wingstop is so inconsistent trust me I used to be a line cook for one. The owner for the one I worked for would order cheap ass chicken for the weekends while the good chicken was bought for only Tuesdays- Thursday’s.
The wings would be frozen, small as hell, and taste nasty. Some of us used to save a box of the good ones just for the crew during the weekend so we can eat those wings during breaks instead of the shitty ones the customers were eating.
Remember is profits over people for company’s 100% of the time.

I do miss the days when chicken wings were basically a giveaway item to get people into bars. It seems like the prices spiked a few years ago and haven't really come back down. The price of chicken this year is dependent on the previous years demand for chicken wings. Chickens can't reach full maturity in order to get little chicken wings, so demand takes X amount of chickens out of the overall food chain supply.

I grew up loyal to BWW and loved the Caribbean jerk sauce. However after BWW was acquired by Roark, the locations near me stopped producing fresh-made ranch and that is UNFORGIVABLE. Wingstop is now my wing destination mostly because their RANCH is fresh and delicious.

Learn to cook your own, Kenji (a TH-cam dude as well as being published in loads of papers like the new York times) has a few recipes. The double fried one is just fucking amazing, it isn't hard, just time consuming as it takes almost 2 hours to prepare and cook combined with the rest period between fries.
The skin is so crisp it shatters when you bite into it, the meat is so tender & juicy it'll drive you wild, and if you use a great sauce the flavor will bring your taste buds to orgasm. I usually just use Frank's buffalo sauce or Frank's Nashville chicken sauce and dip it in a buttermilk ranch.

I have always had fantastic wings at Wingstop. While they do take a little longer to prepare, I do think that it is worth the wait. I will say though that some of my best memories in college were at Buffalo wild wings. However I find their price to portion ratio Abysmal, and the food is hit or miss. It is also one of the only restaurants where I consistently wait a long time to get what is essentially reheated food.

Everytime I go to BWW no matter which store I’ve noticed their wings are more crunchy but they are more dry and lack flavor, while Wingstop if you want crunchy order the boneless but that doesn’t bother me it’s the fact that no matter the flavor you get they are all amazing, all the wings juicy and perfectly cooked and seasoned, i would rather go to Wingstop because I’ve always had a better time eating there than BWW

Honestly with inflation and the lock down. I learned to make them at home. Wings and legs, salt , pepper, parchment paper, wire rack, large cookie pan, oven 450 for 45 minutes and 20 more minutes at 500. Big bowl to mix sauce and wings. Lemon pepper and olive oil. Or Louisiana hot sauce. Buy buttermilk ranch or jalapeno buttermilk ranch from store. Cut up veggie sticks and enjoy.

    • @aaronlimitless
      @aaronlimitless ปีที่แล้ว +3

Pretty close to how I cook them at home. I personally do them at 375 for 45 minutes as well so a little bit cooler but maybe that’s just because I use a convection oven so maybe that cooks them better but I also like my wings less cooked versus crispy, so I guess it would make sense to cook it longer if I heard that, and then I do broil it for 12 minutes after.
      Garlic salt
      Salty pepper
      Butter
      Squirt of lemon juice
A little bit of onion powder
      Lemon pepper
      Franks hot sauce
Once preheated, put the little bit of your sauce, concoction usually I just use the regular Frank hot sauce by itself and poor tiny bit on the wings to make them crispy when they cook and broil
I don’t use any parchment paper. I just spray the bacon sheets down with Pam and then about 20 minutes in the first round. I will take all about development to bowl really quick shake them around spray the pans down again with Pam a little bit this time and then throw the wings back on it and put it back in there
Once they have finished, and once they have gone through the broil cycle, take them out I already have the sauce heated up on the stove to melt the butter. Mix it all together put them in and serve.
Call Deborah well with my friends and family. They always have me make the wings and they like that they are technically a little bit healthier because they’re not deep-fried but they taste like they were fried so doesn’t make me feel guilty having it 10 to 15 times a month, whether as a meal or out at a bar or something 😂

Funny how last night I made the best wings I ever cooked.
The best way to get the same sort of crunch and flavor that far surpass any chain restaurant or fast food joint is patting the skin dry then salting liberally (plus the addition of accent/msg) and having them sit in the oven to dry further at 250F (121C) for about 15-20 minutes. After that you fry them in oil then sauce them up to your hearts content.
Wet skin can lead to grease pops or just be too chewy, vs a crackly skin like chicharron that holds the sauce better.

Though the one complaint about them is that their service tends to be really slow. Which I guess isn't a big deal if you want to watch a game or hang out for a while. We used to eat at the original Wingstop and it was one of my destination drives when I was learning to drive back in 2000. I never really knew it was the original storefront in Garland till years later. I never ate chicken wings before then. The fried ones from KFC and Popeyes were tiny with such a small amount of meat. They were just fried breading and skin that I found icky. I don't know what Wingstop did, but they had thick wings with actual meat on them! I'd still peel off most of the skin though. My flavors were Hawaiian and Garlic Parmesan. I never heard of Buffalo Wild Wings till I moved to Houston, but they didn't have any good flavors, just hot vinegar ones. The salads were okay though. I've since moved to Florida and the nearest Wing Stop is an hour away!

Wow. This brought back some memories. I went to The Ohio State University in the 80's. I've sat at that table in the picture of Jim and Scott in BW3's (sorry, it will ALWAYS be BW3's to me although the current restaurant is an insult to the name) and walked through the door of that little hole-in-the-wall right off High Street at the edge of campus countless times. We used to go for 10 cent wing night and buckets of beer. It was heaven. And the menu was simple and delicious. And there was only one sauce IIRC (at least no one ever ordered anything else) and that was Buffalo sauce available as Mild, Medium, Hot, Wild and Wet And Wild (served swimming in Wild sauce). I left the area in 1990 and moved to the west coast and it wasn't until many years later that I was able to try Buffalo Wild Wings. It was a disgusting abomination. But I suppose that happens when BIG CORP takes over.

Buffalo Wild Wings is not exclusively for food lovers but as well sports fans. You shouldn't go to the dining joint without watching sports. It is a bad way to experience the visitation. I once went to THE Buffalo Wild Wings location at the Hobby Airport in Houston, the biggest city in TX, while heading homewards from FL upon my youngest brother's starting college at a trade school. At the restaurant, I didn't watch any sports. Where I sat didn't face any of the television screens but the corridor. BOOZING OPTIONAL; WATCHING LIVE SPORTS MANDATORY.

Poultry farming can only raise X amount of chickens per year, so a certain amount of chicken are taken out of the equation for wings, thus making mature chicken availability less

ive always seen BWW as a social food. its something thats best enjoyed when you're with others. while when thats the case it works, thats not the case most of the time. most of the times we eat alone or with 1 other person at most and without all the frills. in that scenario, which is much more common, wingstop is king. I'd compare it to TGIF vs any fast food restaurant. one is something you'd eat occasionally while the other is something you theoretically could eat every day (which you shouldn't because of how unhealthy it is).

I use to work for BWW. The problem with BWW is their “sports bar” is more like a grill where families go to enjoy a quiet dinner, but sport bars are loud, and exciting. Where you struggle to get the bartender’s attention because even his or her eyes are fixed on the game. BWW doesn’t have an appeal of a sports bar, but they wish they did because all their marketing is focused on it.

And I’ve tried a wide variety of their flavors, but I’ve settled on my favorites: parmesan garlic, Asian zing, and Caribbean jerk (as well as Thai curry and orange chicken, and the Blazin and - when they have it - the ghost pepper, OMFG they’re HOT and I regret it every time I order them haha). I love BWW and I almost never order anything else off of their menu. I have never ordered from Wing Stop just yet but there is one nearby.
