I haven't heard anyone like Ren in my life. His expression is so raw and true. What a privilege to hear and cover his music. This song is particularly personal so I wasn't sure about covering it. But I thought I'd share what I came up with on the piano. The whole tune translates really well to piano and to my style so I added the bit at the end where I play the chorus again. I just love Ren and I love what he's doing - this guy is the future! I really wanted to cover his tune and put my own spin on it. Absolute legend, thanks for sharing your incredible music! I'm listening through this piece for the second time, and I'm sure it's far from the last.
I'm not sure where you are in NZ, but my wife and I lived there in 2010/2011 and love your country. (We started in Christchurch, traveled around a ton in campervans, and lived and worked in Auckland for a while.) We returned to NZ in 2016 and often think of our amazing time there.
It's a beautiful place you live. I'm sure that informs some of the decisions you made in creating this beautiful version of Ren's song.

There's just so much of what he's doing in his music that describes the experiences many of us are having in the world today.

I’m glad you found me, thanks for sharing your story it’s nice to see that. NZ is really beautiful, I live in the South Island (Dunedin, close to Christchurch), and you guessed correctly about NZ inspiring my music. I decided to pursue music when I was living in Queenstown, as I was inspired by the beautiful landscapes. I have another TH-cam channel called Joshua St Clair, which is where I share my original piano compositions with the beautiful scenery on NZ, I think you will like it!
Also I agree about Ren. He’s a very unique artist, and a testament to staying true to yourself/creative vision no matter what - either you can ‘sell out’ and do what is popular at the cost of your own true art/vision, or you can stay true to yourself at the risk of never ‘making it’ as an artist, but with the possibility of being groundbreaking. Ren persevered through all of his tribulations and never lost touch, and in the end got the recognition he deserved. I’ll definitely be covering more Ren soon!
