  • This is a performance of John Mackey's Strange Humors for Clarinet Quartet and Djembe from Bojan Gutic's senior recital.
    Performers are:
    Bojan Gutic - 1st Clarinet
    Nick VandenBush - 2nd Clarinet
    Zach Dekam - 3rd Clarinet
    Nicholas Lopez - Bass Clarinet
    Eric Anderson - Djembe
A special shoutout to those four guys! They are all my brothers in the Gamma Sigma chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi and all helped to put this performance together to close my senior recital!
John Mackey is an American composer who holds degrees from the Cleveland Institute and the Juilliard School. His fame is rather recent, having started with the performance of several of his band pieces at the Texas Music Educators Association conference, as well as other major band conferences around the country.
Strange Humors was written for a dance company, and attempts to merge pseudo-African hand drumming with middle eastern folk music. It was originally written for string quartet and Djembe, but very recently, an arrangement for Clarinet quartet and Djembe was released. This recording is of that arrangement.
