    For anyone thinking of a career in graphic design as well this is great advice. RGB (Red Green Blue) are what you use for creating digital images / anything seen on screen. CMYK (Cyan Magenta Yellow Black) are what you use for print.

      The RGB color model (additive color mixture) is for lights in general.
      The CMY color model (subtractive color mixture) is for pigments in general, this includes paints, inks, oils, crayons, filters, sand, and any kind of medium.

    I remember when I was introduced to magenta. Oh boy. Best oranges and purples I had ever mixed in my life. It was my favorite color for ages just because of how it changed my color mixing game. I guess I never felt the need for cyan because it's in most palettes as "sky blue", but magenta was totally absent from all school supplies and my poor mom had to go out of her way to get me all my magenta art supplies for school. When I was finally taught proper color theory I felt my magenta "cheat" finally made sense. Now I just don't get why do we still teach Red-Yellow-Blue instead of Cyan-Magenta-Yellow. It makes colors so confusing and unenjoyable for so many people.

    Additive colours have different primary colours, they start with darker colour and when they combine or “add” together, there is more light coming through and they produce different colours, and instead of mixing secondary to get tertiary and so on, they adjust the amount of light released from each primary colour, they use rgb and to get black, there is no colour and to get white the values for red, green and blue are all set to 255, and if you decrease them you start to get grey, to get a desaturated colour, you need to get the desired hue, then figure out how to get the opposite of that colour, then increase those values until you get the desired colour

  • @xpspsps4525
    @xpspsps4525 หลายเดือนก่อน

    i guess as an art student cyan magenta and yellow is just shades of red blue and yellow in the end, in my head those colors were always a spectrum to borrow and mix as i please, i never seen the red blue and yellow primary color representation as definitive, more so describing cathegories of colors to mix to achieve other basic colors, and as someone who almst always painted with just burnt sienna, prussian blue, warmer yellow and magenta i found that to be sufficient to make any colors i wanted to see! But I can definitely see how this kind of thing can skip someone entirely and they lock into that boring red, ugly blue and cold yellow perspective

    Well, I for one have not been lied to, I already learned about CMY in school in the early 90's. But I still do not consider them my primaries for art. Why? Because just like generations of artists before me, I can work just fine with red, yellow and blue. The reason people run into problems with RYB is not because RYB are not the primaries, but because people, for some odd reason, gravitate towards warm RYB only, which will of course limit them. If you choose your RYB wisely for your purpose, it will serve you just fine and you will mix whatever it is that you need. Yes, I know, you cannot mix exact cyan or magenta, but you can get so close to it that people will not know the difference if they do not have a direct comparison, which is the case with many things in art.
    My main medium is watercolor, and while I do own true magenta and cyan, I do not keep them in my main working palette, because I plainly do not need them. Cool RYB, absolutely, but when someone thinks that they need spot-on CMY for traditional art, it is simply not the case. Thank goodness, cause it if were, we would have missed out on a lot of great pieces.

      a huge part of graffiti is color, so the more you understand about how collor works then the better fill ins you'll have and the better you can manipulate your color combonations to make things pop more or less. This helps also for mixing colors too as descussed in the video. not knowing color theory is why most artists struggle with color and why most graffiti artists find fill ins hard at first. learning color theory is the solution to that proble,

    The hardest part about using CYM as your primaries is that it's usually a little more difficult to find those, where Red, Yellow, and Blue fill up every primaries kit ever. Not impossible, and I love mixing CYM more than anything, but something to keep in mind if you look around in an art store.
    Also, sometimes it can be difficult to mix a good orange from CYM, so I like to add that and a brown onto my set of standard colours along with CYM, but that's more personal preference than anything :D
