A great episode for ya'. We all know how worn the interior can get - wouldn't it be great if you could fix it really easily? Well you can, thanks to Volico. Volvo are the paint supplier to Mercedes, and you can get your hands on the very same Anthracite colour rubberised paint (or whatever colour your interior is) that Mercedes use.
This is a video of me applying the paint for the first time. The results are amazing! The interior is as good as new in under 5 mins.

Since first watching this video I have used this stuff and it is amazing for a quick fix, for best results I later took the plunge and removed the paint down to bare black plastic on the area's most visible ( along the top edges) with white spirit then gently smoothed the raised paint lines of the original paint with a coarse scouring sponge, two layers of new paint later and it really does look like new with the original pattern showing through. The only down side is it rubs off very easily with scrapes.
One tip to using this is not to go over an area that has started to dry ( 20 seconds in room temperature ) as it will mess-up the finish, if you miss a bit just wait for it to dry then re-apply.

The worn out interior was always something to say no to the R170 SLK ... but seeing how easy it is to fix then I am thinking it is a good way to get a cheap but good SLK and to fix it by yourself. Thanks for sharing!

That's amazing! I have just recently purchased a 2002 Mercedes SLK 230 myself in silver with charcoal black interior there is minimal paint peeling on mine as it have very low mileage. This is definitely something to consider if I want to consider getting the interior back into showroom condition. Thank you for this, I have subbed!

I tried this, but my interior had already some coloration going on and few nasty scratches so I ended up having it repainted black (original was charcoal) and it looks super nice.

I stripped all the oem-paint off my interior, fixed alot of cracks and broken mounts with both epoxy, and superglue-infused very thin-fibre-glass matting and repainted with the Australian colour matched VIPOND's TautFlex, I feel it is very hard wearing now ... I had previously used Volico, but thought the Australian Vipond TautFlex was better
my tip for removing the handbrake lever rubber is warm the rubber up with an equipoise desk lamp for 5 minutes
Hi! i’m searching for some help i am in the process of stripping my interior paint previously from being tan to just leaving it black, but im having a hard time getting rid of this white stuff that’s left over after the stripper has been wiped off, could you give me any tips, or your steps and products you used? thank!
@@carleycox6791 I just left my Benz interior plastics in the laundry tub, filled with water and detergent overnight and it peeled off in sheets, so not sure what the white stuff is, but maybe remove with a mild solvent like methylated spirits or isopropyl alchohol. You might find the raw plastics a bit barren. You could recolour with automotive-vinyl dye that comes in a aerosol can. "Buckskin" is possibly the colour you want, or perhaps a satin black. I use vinyl dye to re-colour lots of plastics, and is the only thing that will recolour hard to paint plastics like PVC, but the benz interior is ABS, so the dye will work well. Buy 6 or so cans and make sure it is meticulously clean before spraying the dye - use a 'leopard spotting' technique applying successive thin coats every five minutes to build up the colour. The main solvent in vinyl dye is MEK (MethylEthylKetone) which is nasty and very powerful .. essentially it melts the top surface of the plastic to trap the colour pigment and once dried is very hard to scratch off. Needs to be applied on a not-cold day, eg above 15degC in a well ventilated area

@@marlonbraccia8767 VIPONDS is good, hardwearing, and a little goes a long way, I bought 2 bottles, still have 3/4 of one bottle left and I did my whole dash, centre console, glovebox, etc;, water based, coat once by pouring a little VIPONDs onto a sponge to apply, leave overnight, apply 2nd coat, leave for 12hrs
I had the same problem with my 320slk. Cheapest interior of any car I have owned. I still find it staggering how Mercedes could use plastic for entire dashboard. Why could they not have used metal like the older pagoda top. In Australia my 320slk cost $120,000 in 2001. I loved this car but it broke me financially. I sold it with only 130,000kms on the speedo.
Hi Thanks for the good video of using the paint on the console of the SLK. I have a 2002 Slk that needs a good going over with the Siam Beige color. Your Valico link does not show the small square bottle you used. Rather, they show spay cans and touch up pens. I feel much more confident using the small bottles you used in the videos. Are these bottles still available? Thanks.

First of all I'd like to thank you for your video on repainting the interior stuff. Best video out there. I've already ordered and received the paint from e-bay.
I have a problem with the center console. the plastic elements containing the buttons for the top and mirror adjustment is broken as well as the box beneath the small sliding closure. I want replace these with new but I haven't a clue of how to remove the console between the seats to let me put in the new elements. Can you do a video of that process?

It’s hard to find that same bottle here in the U.S I had to buy it from that only seller from eBay but the top of the bottle was gray-ish and I noticed yours is red.. idk if it’s the same color .. I just hope it is cause I already ordered it

Jeff Levine thanks Jeff. Clean the area with soapy water and a spounge. make sure you remove any flecks of paint or rough edges that rise up when you clean it. then rinse with water and dry

The interior of my R170 320 is fine apart from the driver's door pull. The covering has cracked and small pieces have fallen off. Is there any way to fix this?

Can you tell, can i used this paint for painting my car's (W210) Interior Car Grab Handles ?
+W210 Source the handles yes. It worked for my r170. (Provided the colour of your interior is the same as this paint). I tried it on the leather covering the rest of the door - it doesn't work. Avoid using it on the rest of the door interior and paint to the handles only. Happy painting!

+Derek Maynard Hi! Good question. I used a decorating sponge from a diy store that I ripped a piece off. Nothing special - a sponge that's pretty dense works best

Where can I find the exact name of the color I have ? It's red but there are two types of red on the Volico site (Magma and Scarlet).
You can check online with the VIN number of your car. Just type in 'Mercedes Benz VIN decoder'. Most would tell you the color of the car and the color of the interior/equipment
