Thanks AJ! Tips... underpainting with yellows and blues is the trick, but VERY lightly. Then the key to blending, to get the bold smooth painting look, is using the white at the end. You have to put a lot of pressure with it but the end result is worth it.
Chalks are great! They are quick and a lot of fun to layer on each other to create depth. The only thing is you have to be clean with them or it looks cloudy or a little messy. One thing I use to do is spray a little hair spray on the first layer of pinks etc then add two or three more layers of chalk colors and hairspray. What are you drawing with them?
Once again Mac, you nailed it. Great likeness, great exaggeration. The day I can just do this first try will be the day. By the way....the art stix. I really need to learn how to use those, any tips?
Amazing! love your work...I always wanted a caricature drawing of my grandkids... would you consider taking my money for a drawing? keep up the great work....
Muy bueno ese dibujo . Sabes agarrarle la esencia , aunque los ojos , osea la niña del ojo, no esta como el la tiene . Mes al medio estaría estaria mejor . Pero muy bueno el dibujo .
Hey Mac, Kia Ora from Aotearoa New Zealand (also home of Hobbitsville); your talent, sincerity and generosity in sharing your skills really shines out. You send out a great vibe and I have really benefited. Many thanks.
Well, I love the music but the Busch Gardens and Disney theme parks will never let you draw someone like that. They prefer markette markers for caricatures and dry chalks for pastel portraits.
Nothing mainstream. Just random drawings in sketchbook/journal or oversize drawing pads. The pastel colors somtimes works better than the saturated Crayola/Rose Art markers. Somtimes wish my curent sketchbooks had better tooth for the medium. Funny you mention hairspray. Was just thinking of experimenting with using acrylic matt and airbrush layers over charcoal drawings. When blending 'stump, brush. shammy' charcoal looses that black richness.
