ABOUT JOSHUA LEE TURNER ----------------------------------------------
In 2007, Joshua Lee Turner launched his TH-cam channel at the age of 15 and only a year after picking up his first guitar. Over the next 15 years, it grew to over 650,000 subscribers, and his videos have garnered almost 180 million views. Not to be confused with the similarly named country music singer, Josh built his global fanbase by producing a slew of cover videos, along with a couple of solo albums and a few US and European tours. He frequently collaborates with fellow artists on his videos, but his most enduring partnership is with Carson McKee, the other half of their duo called The Other Favorites. Originally from North Carolina, he currently lives in New York with his wife, Kelly, who also helps produce their music and videos.
Like most successful musicians on TH-cam, Josh has produced dozens of videos, including covers, originals, collaborations, live performances, and even guitar tutorials. In this episode, we will provide only a cursory overview of his immense portfolio, so hopefully after you’re done here you’ll head over to his channel and continue to enjoy his talents.

Josh is legit one of the most talented people on youtube. Found so many amazing people thru him. Reina del cid, Toni Lingren, Carson Mckee, Allison young and so many more. Josh is a rare talent.
I actually discovered Josh from watching Reina.

I’ve been a Josh fan for about 5 years. I’ve always been impressed how he can find people to collaborate with to produce a video. And wondered how he did it.
He is a wonder kid.He should be famous .Why isn't he on the radio instead of the garbage we are subjected to!

I've been following Josh and friends for a few years. They are a bright light in a sea of musical darkness. They give me hope that good music and talented musicians may survive and thrive.
I can testify that Josh is hands down the most amazingly talented musician I've ever seen in my 70 years on the planet. Every video is better than the last. It's other worldly.
His breadth of styles and techniques is astounding; classical, jazz, rock, pop, blues, folk, not to mention 3-finger picking Scruggs style on the 5-string banjo.
I`m 75 and watch a lot of musicians on youtube. there`s no one even close to Josh. he is truly in a league of his own and still improving. it takes more than talent to accomplish his level of musicianship. it takes dedication and thousands of hours of hard work.

I am an avid Josh and Carson fan. I have seen all of those videos multiple times except the one by the Dooby Brothers. I have never seen that. Thank you for sharing it.
I wish you would have included Josh and Carson’s book high school report. It was the ultimate book report!
I guess they were 16-17 when instead of writing a book report they wrote a song. It was about an Ill fated ship. It was written in “Sea Shanty” style. It is a riot and it really gives a glimpse into Josh and Carson’s musical genius. The name of it was “In the Heart of the Sea: The Comedy of the Whaleship Essex”. Brilliant!

I turn 70 next month but listen to Josh and friends often! Such a talented crew and they cover many of my old favorites created before they were born! Great doc.
Josh is seriously one of the most talented guitarists around right now, as well as being a fantastic multi-instrumentalists, producer, vocalists and writer.
Many of Josh and Co's arrangements of covers are as good or better than the originals. The originals are just that, very original. It is not a coincidence that he has an appreciation from music from the entire last century.
Josh is the best talent on you tube. Absolutely love josh and friends, their all very talented. A joy to listen to all the various types of music they master.❤

It absolutely blows my mind how many instruments and styles that guy has picked up and just mastered. He's really astonishing. I had the opportunity to see The Other Favorites last year. Brilliant performance.
He has always been an outstanding multi-instrumentalist. Plus over the years his singing has improved remarkably, as has his music/sound/video production. We're curious to see how he develops as a songwriter, especially with the influences from all of his various collaborators. It's great that you got to see TOF live! Hopefully you have also seen @reinadelcid and @maryspender, among others.
@@fortivomusic I haven't seen Mary Spender (I'll keep an eye out) but I did catch Reina and Toni (and got to photograph them) when they were in Columbus, OH. I really want to see all four together. I was supposed to a few years ago but the damn pandemic got their show canceled. :/

His music transcends all ages!
Such a rare talent. He's the complete musician...singer, writer, instrumentalist, producer.
Everything that he has ever done is fantastic, but what hits me the hardest is the absolute joy that is obvious on his face when (I guess) it surpasses his high expectations. He loves what he is doing - what a blessing.
There is nothing better than watching a musician or a group of musicians who are not only giving you a top notch performance, but who are also having such a great time doing it! The only time such joy doesn’t show is when the topic is serious and as usual, Josh takes it very seriously. He certainly is not without emotion.
I had the pleasure to see him on stage last year in Cologne together with Reina del Cid and it was such a great evening. Unfortunately his records are a rare find and usually marked unavailable.
I bet that was an incredible show! We have an artist episode on Reina del Cid if you haven't seen it yet. They really are a talented group of artists.

Josh has such a staggeringly large collection of popular cover music, I usually go to his cover before the original. "Sunshine Of Your Love", "Honky Tonk Women" and "Once In A Lifetime"(Talking Heads), among so many.
We agree! It is incredibly difficult to capture talent like this in only 10 songs, but hopefully fans will go to his channel and dive into his "staggeringly large collection" of amazing work.

A long time follower of Josh, nothing exemplifies his artistry like his over of Valerie. His accompaniment is so tasteful and creative, it brings out the song’s essence far better than any other rendition. His talents as a guitarist are in full display.
Preceded the Sri go Star version. I have been enjoying Josh’s career since before he graduated college. I’ve encouraged more aspiring performance majors to review his skills at independently establishing following…of course his skills, artistry, and love of collaborating in making music says it all…just listen, how refreshing!!! Thank you Josh and friends… we’re enriched!
Josh has a deep catalog of covers and originals. Most the songs you highlighted are my least favorite, yet somehow he is my most watched artist on TH-cam by a big margin.
Unfortunately (or rather fortunately), Josh is so talented that it was difficult to distill his essence down to only 10 videos. Our hope is that these episodes provide new fans with enough of a taste to entice them over to the artists' own channels. Concert pianists and opera singers make a highly respectable living doing covers. That's basically what they do. Josh is a leader in a new movement of artists who do covers of "contemporary" artists (50s on) and sometimes perform better than the originals. There is nothing Josh can't do.
In Los Angeles, right before Covid, there was a show about Simon and Garfunkel at the Pantages. As I enjoyed the music I was thinking they really should have had Josh play the part of Paul Simon. Then the spotlight shined on the back up singers and guitar players, and to my joy and wonder, there was Josh! He doesn't look like Paul, but if you close your eyes and listen, you can't help but think "Paul was having a really good day when he recorded that"

I think the best cover he's done is Paradise by John Prine with Carson and Bob Barrick, its simply magic.
Yeah...it's crazy that he and his gang do the covers so much better than the originals. The key is that he sings the songs-not simply the words and notes.

But….Josh & friends played THE BEST COVER of one of the most emotional and beautiful songs ever written: OPERATOR, by Jim Croce. I miss that song in this compilation.
I share your enthusiasm about the Operator cover, it is adorable beyond words. But given the extent of Josh's catalogue and the fact that there is only so much you can put into one video, you will always end up leaving the one or other of his great recordings out.
That is such a great song. It was so hard to choose which songs to include! He has so many wonderful ones. Other than that one, which others are your favorite?
he defies description. you can watch hundreds of his YT videos and be constantly surprised by what he does and how easy he makes it look. his friends and collaboraters are all incredibly talented and they all seem to love what they`re doing.

I am sure Josh plays the mandolin as well. I have been trying to learn Sultans of swing on the mandolin I have it down fairly well but would love to hear Josh play it on the mandolin, I am sure he can do it and it would be amazing

Joshua is one of most talented and interesting young artists out there. He and Carson’s interpretations of ABBA’s Mama Mia is the most fun possible. It will change how people view the banjo. Joshua’s Ladybug is the sweetest and most unexpected feel good song. Carson has surprising range. What stands out is all these young singers seem to be persuading music for the absolute love of music and performance, their joy shows through, dare I say they are pure? And finally check out Sixteen Tons, it is another example of their fearlessness to explore.
