    You have a knack for teaching and you do so in a way that is so easily digestible for people like myself who didn't even know what a DAW is before coming here. I could tell that there was so much effort being put into making this video.
    ✅ Content
    ✅ Simple, clear explanations
    ✅ You went over shortcuts in Logic Pro
    ✅ Edits/mentions for when there were typos
    ✅ Timestamps
    ✅ Friendly, no assumptions made, no ego, just straight up cool!
    This was very helpful, thank you so much man!

    Great video! Thanks! Minor comment from a software engineer. You seem like you really enjoy understanding things deeply so the following comment is meant to be helpful to anyone coming up with a strategy for storing their Sound Library or other Asset Library.
    Moving your files to an SSD (Storage) doesn't have any effect on the CPU (Speed at which Logic runs). For the purpose of this discussion, a computer has three primary parts: 1. CPU or the processor/brain, 2. RAM or short term memory, and 3. Long term storage/drive (where things are saved when the computer is turned off). When a computer program, like Logic, runs, it loads the program/app and related data/sound library files used in a project from the relatively slow long term storage (SSD internal or external) into RAM so it can be accessed by the CPU super fast. The CPU/brain then interacts with what's in RAM while it runs. Once loaded into RAM, the CPU/brain no longer accesses the files in long term storage (internal SSD or external SSD). Metaphorically speaking, RAM is like your short term memory, and the SSD is like a book. Moving the files stored from the internal SSD to an external SSD frees up the internal SSDs long term storage space (blank pages in the book) but doesn't affect the performance of the CPU/Brain in any way since the CPU/Brain is accessing everything from it's short term memory (RAM) once loaded.
    If we're getting detail oriented, it's actually slightly slower on a Mac to load these files into RAM from the external SSD than it is to load it from the Internal SSD. The external SSD communicates over USB which is a slower bus than the bus that communicates with your internal SSD. A bus is the path or "road" that the data travels along when it is copied from long term storage to short term memory (RAM). Freeing up internal drive space is definitely a benefit as most people are limited in the amount of internal storage space they have on their computer, so it's still solid advice. It doesn't however improve the performance of Logic in any way. The only effect it has on performance is actually negative as it results in a slight slowdown of the time it takes to load a project into Logic. Nothing worth concerning ourselves with though.
    Personally, I like to keep the sound file library on my internal drive so I can always have access to the library, even if I'm working on my laptop in a coffee shop and don't have the external SSD with me. I keep active projects on my internal drive as well. I use my external SSD to archive older projects so my internal drive has room for my active projects and sound library. I follow the same strategy with Final Cut Pro, Xcode dev projects, and other projects that have a lot of project specific assets to be stored on disk. I can work from anywhere and have the fastest load times.

    EXCEPTIONAL class! Tony is a natural teacher and skilled instructional designer. Though I'm not a total stranger to music and DAWs, between books and videos, I never found a resource that gave me the kind of foundation I was looking for. This introduction did. Though Tony regularly reminds us that this class is not comprehensive, it covers what you need to know in enough depth not only to get you comfortably started, but to give you the grounding you need to make the most of the many other resources out there. I'm another Mac-based gray-hair Boomer. I'm primarily a video producer/editor and have used DAWs to create my own music beds. The rules and structure are a lot different than house beats, what I learned here was completely applicable--how to create a structure in Logic Pro.
    As an aside, in my video career I've worked on any number of instructional projects and have watched quite a few produced by others. I am super-picky and have seen a lot of professionally produced instructional videos that are total failures. In that light, Tony absolutely nailed it. I would, with full confidence, pay for any of his premium lessons. Thanks Tony!

    I'm only four lessons into this video and already I have learned so much. I can't thank you enough for sharing this information in such a clear, practical and humble way. I was instantly overwhelmed when jumping from GarageBand to Logic and went running back to safety a few times. Once I finish this, I'll be looking forward to watching the 10.7.5 update video. People like you on TH-cam are restoring my faith in the basic goodness of others and what you are willing to share so freely. It will make a huge difference with my learning curve. I also recognize how much work it is...Very much appreciated!

    Thanks for this well produced and informative video. I started music programming on a Buchla, then as a Synclavier programmer and these days I mostly produce and mix in Protools. A client recently asked me to learn Logic to help him and I appreciate all of the time and effort that you obviously put into making this. All DAW's are the same idea with Different GUI's and workflows. Being able to break that down and organize it so navigation and workflow become obvious is a very valuable resource. I am sure there is a lot of detailed nuance I will need to acquire over time but this was a great starting point and I appreciate your work and efforts here.

      @itstonyholiday  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Cant' tell you how much I appreciate the comment. You're absolutely right about All DAWs are more or less the same, it just takes a bit of time to learn the workflows and where things are.
      Again, thank you for watching. I really appreciate you taking the time to leave this comment.

      PS why did your client request that you work in Logic?

    • @TheZenguitarguy
      @TheZenguitarguy 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@itstonyholiday He is a composer/player and was thinking his creative process will be made easier by working in Logic over Protools. i can see why he might feel that way. I think Protools is a bit more direct in terms of how it integrates the creative and recording process. Probably a more traditional process in that it's set up and design more as a recording, studio environment and logic seems to be more nonlinear? More options and more possibilities to work with and organize and manipulate sound and structure, to be honest for me it's apples and oranges, but I really want to help support him being able to get to his creative ideas more easily? Again thanks for your informative video. In this day and age, I think people take for granted the amount of work. It takes to create quality content, and intellectual property, and I think it should be acknowledged. I always try and support people who are good at what they do and know what they're doing. So keep making good content and I hope that it supports you and your creative endeavors.

Fed up, I started researching for a Mac Book Pro and what is the best recommended DAW. Turns out, Logic Pro was the overwhelming favorite. Hey Tony - what a wonderfully done tutorial. Much appreciation for making this super concise and to the point with everything!
    I'm coming from Pro Tools and I think I jumped into Logic Pro rather well without ever using it before. But I'm mixing and recording these unbelievable songs for my best friend - who has invited me into his band as a lead guitarist.
    We have no drummer, so I've been programming the drums in the meantime as well as doing lead guitar duties (Logic does have a great MIDI editor, btw - especially with editing velocity levels).
    Anyways, I know that when I'm done watching this video (only 25 minutes in), I'll be able to knock that music out of the park. We really have something amazing here with his music, and so this needs to be done right. And it will.
    Thank you again, bro.
