Walls in American houses are so easy to dismantle, even down to taking out the the door frame...ours in Ireland are built into the wall which is solid concrete so not so easy to take down. Well done its fantastic
Absolutely love this video. We are doing the same thing on our fireplace wall. We only have room for one Billy bookcase on each side. We frameed them in. Then we built a new wall above the fireplace that is even with the bookcases. I did a vertical ship lap on that new wall where the TV will go. Everything is done except for painting and a few trim pieces. I loved what you did!
What an awesome project you did. Makes me think I CAN do my craft room. And I won’t have to even move a door. But let’s give credit where credit is due. You keep saying we however, you are the only one I see doing any work! And it is fabulous work! Very inspiring. I love how you go into details

Absolutely love this! As a bit of a noob to DIY I find your build inspirational! I personally like a darker aesthetic so I would do like a dark oak style as apposed to the white!
Love the entire thing. Exactly what I want in my home. You have great diy skills. I don't know if I can do all that. But, at least I know how now and can certainly direct it to get done. Thanks for sharing.
Years of DIY under the watchful eye of my professional son taught me to not take short cuts and do it right the first time. This would have made me finish the drywall in the corner too. You are a very handy lady!
Wow! Beautiful! I have a question about the cords and how you access them to change out the TV. Do you need to remove the fireplace? I couldn't figure out how you reached in there to plug in the fireplace and tv 😁
I really wish I would have included this in the video. I left a hole behind the tv and shiplap. I also cut holes in the side of the cabinets that touched the shiplap. I had wall outlets behind the cabinets that I accessed by cutting additional holes in the back of the cabinets. So the tv cord goes behind the shiplap. It runs down then comes out of the side and plugs in a wall outlet behind the cabinet doors. So you never see any wires. Hope this makes sense.
I totally considered that option. But at the time (about 6 months ago) the price of wood was out of control. This was so much less expensive and saved me so much time.
Do you believe these shelves will stand the test of time? Are the bookshelves sturdy enough? Looks like a great budget friendly option to build! I’m thinking about doing it myself
Thanks! I wish I would have included this in the video. The cord for the tv runs behind the shiplap and into the cabinets (I cut a hole in the side of the bookshelf). There are outlets behind the cabinets so I cut a hole in the back of the cabinets to access the outlet. The tv/shiplap area is 96” tall and about 66” wide.

This is amazing! Exactly what I was looking for. My only question is how would you access the wall electrical plugs behind the TV and Fireplace. Is there a hidden door to reach them? Thank you for sharing!!
There are outlets inside the cabinets. I cut a hole in the back of the cabinets to access them. The cords come down behind the fireplace and through the side of the cabinet to plug in.
Hi, Kelsey, Just discovered your channel and immediately subscribed. I had been thinking of doing something like this in my family room. Absolutely amazing. You are one of the very best DIY-ers I have seen on TH-cam. Great job!
I love what you made and I’m so glad you shared it with the world. We are working on a similar project and I was wondering how you handled the carpet. After the shelves are installed, how do I keep the carpet from shifting? Can I nail the carpet down right in front of the base of the shelves?
The Billy bookcases are so great, I just bought a few (Was difficult to get them) and made over my MB closet. I LOVE the built in idea and you did it all by yourself - you are awesome. I really like your channel, just found you 2 weeks ago and am watching your older videos along with your new ones.
I don’t think I included it in the video(definitely should have) but I screwed through the back panel directly into the wall. Also through the side panels that are touching a wall. Then I used a few screws on the other sides of the shelves to screw the bookshelves together. Hope this makes sense!
Looks amazing! wondering what kind of trim you used for the middle and did you at any point debate between the glass doors? Did you find it easier to build the mantle after?
Hey, you could get a cheap motion sensor light switch for the closet, or else they make something called a door jam switch which installs in the door frame and when the door opens it activates the light (the same way a fridge light works)
This looks amazing! Not sure if you answered this previously, but after getting the fireplace and TV mounted how did you get them connected to the power? Did you have an outlet on the original wall and plug things in before screwing things in placing?
There are outlets on either side inside the cabinets (the outlets were already there- I just cut holes in the back of cabinet to access them). The wires run down behind tv and fireplace. I cut holes in the side of cabinets where you can’t see so the wires can come into the cabinet and access the outlet. I really wish I would have included this but this was my first video and I totally forgot. Hope this helps.
Thanks! I used minwax early American stain for the mantle. For the paint, I started with a very white color like chantilly lace and gradually added a warmer color like white dove until I got a good match to the ikea shelves.
For an European like me - it’s unbelievable how she made a hole in the wall 😂😂 My daughter wanted to do the same - we needed the expertise from an structural engineer - and then it needed a lot of time to fix it - because the wall is from concrete wall. Chapeau - good job for sure 👏 Love from Austria/Europe 🇦🇹
Kelsey I am impressed!!! Great job girl! Tell me how did you know what kind of wood and what size you should buy? I have 3 peace’s of ikea here and I would like to transform them into a library ( big bookcase)… please help me with your ideas……
Thank you! When deciding on wood for this project, I knew I wanted to go with primed pine because it’s very smooth and less expensive compared to poplar or oak. As for the size I needed, I measured from the tops of the bookcases to the ceiling because I knew I wanted it to be enclosed.
This is awesome! I want to do something like this for my parents. Quick question...did you leave the hole open behind the TV, and if so, why? Also, you covered up where the shelves joined to make it look custom but you forgot to do it at the bottom.
I left the hole open behind the tv just in case we need to access that area for any reason. I didn’t forget to cover the seams at the bottom. I hadn’t installed our new floors yet so I wanted to wait until the new floors were in. They have trim over them now.
@@KelseyRomitoDIY awesome did you had to upgrade your breaker? thanks for all your amazing videos. I have them save, as we just bought a house and next year I want to do some of the videos you have done :).
OMG! You are so talented. I would like to learn how to do things like that but indo not know where. Can I ask you where did you learn ? Is there a place when yo go and learn?
Did you use something to fill all the holes that eun vertically inside the shelving walls (for adjusting shelf height)? Final review clip makes it look like maybe you did, but hard to tell with that video filter.
OMG. That looks great and gives me a couple of ideas for some built-ins that I've been kicking around in my head for a couple of years :). Maybe you didn't video it but, I didn't see you make provisions for the power and cabling for the TV, soundbar, and fire place. Is that a separate video?
Wish I would have included this in the video but it was my first one and I was still learning. There are outlets inside the cabinets. I cut a hole in the back of the cabinets to access them. Then I drilled a hole in the side of the cabinet closest to the fireplace and pulled all the cords through to the outlet.
Fast delivery - beautiful , easy to install! My neighbor is ordering one as well! 60 inch is perfect size if you want it to be the center piece of the room!

OH and one more question (and I apologize if I missed it) but what paint color did you use? I know you mentioned having it color matched...but was there a color that you found to be close at all without taking shelf to be matched?
So the color match I got was awful! So I mixed one myself- I started with Chantilly lace and gradually added in simply white (warmer color) until I got the right amount of warmth for the existing shelves. Hope this helps!
Hi, could you tell us how big this wall is to being with? And when I look at the “Billy” cabinets , they dont have doors like yours do. Is this something extra, or different? Love this look and trying to figure out my game plan. Thank you
This wall is about 16 feet wide. The billy line at IKEA is a bunch of customizable pieces. I used 4 bookshelves and 8 doors (purchased separately). If you check the video description, I leave links to materials and some tools I use in my videos. Hope this helps.

@@KelseyRomitoDIY thanks for replying! I actually found your video of the tools after I asked this question and made my list lol.
Absolutely love your DIY bookshelves and fireplace. What stain color did you use for your mantle.
Thanks! I’m pretty sure I used minwax early American. Then went in lightly with varathane weathered gray to tone down some warmness.
You are absolutely amazing, this is a project I would love to work on. I will definitely be waiting for any new videos from you. Great job ❤❤😊
This was super cool. I was wondering, where and how do you connect all the wires and cables for the TV and the fireplace? 🤔
The wires run behind the shiplap center piece and through the side into a cabinet. Inside each cabinet is an outlet.
Hi, amazing job! Sorry if I missed the link, but where are the cabinet doors from again?
Thanks! The cabinet doors are from ikea. They match the ikea billy bookshelves.
Looks fantastic! Wonderful job!!
was the fire place a plug to the outlet or hardwire?
great job I want to try this myself
It plugs in
@@KelseyRomitoDIY awesome did you had to upgrade your breaker? thanks for all your amazing videos. I have them save, as we just bought a house and next year I want to do some of the videos you have done :).
@@SZGSports nope the one I used didn’t require that
@@KelseyRomitoDIY great, thanks I booked mark a couple of your vids. Awesome job in all of them keep killing it
OMG! You are so talented. I would like to learn how to do things like that but indo not know where. Can I ask you where did you learn ? Is there a place when yo go and learn?
Hi, I have a couple of q&a videos answering this question if you want to check them out.
Wow gorgeous! Great job
Did you use something to fill all the holes that eun vertically inside the shelving walls (for adjusting shelf height)?
Final review clip makes it look like maybe you did, but hard to tell with that video filter.
I used a little bit of white spackle. They’re not completely filled in case I want to adjust them but it camouflages them.
Watch at 2x speed, way better
Hi! Great tutorial! I cant figure out if the doors on the bookshelves are from IKEA? The link isn't working.
Thanks just updated the link. The doors are oxberg doors from ikea.

Great job!! It looks awesome and you do make it look so easy!
Thank you!
Great job. I'm impressed. Looking to do something similar, haven't decided on a final design. Looks great
Thanks!
I love your videos!! What type of nails did u use for the trimming to cover the seams? Did u have to use puddy to cover them? Thanks
Thanks! I used one inch brad nails. Yes I used wood filler and sanded before painting.
Do you have to remove the flooring to install built ins? I have vinyl planks and have no idea how to make that work
No I don’t think so. I wouldn’t do it over carpet though because it would be uneven.
Fast delivery - beautiful , easy to install! My neighbor is ordering one as well! 60 inch is perfect size if you want it to be the center piece of the room!
On your dining make over what was you using on wall and thickness?
They’re called bender boards. They’re very thin.

@@KelseyRomitoDIY super helpful!! And actually I have BOTH of those colors on hand from other projects already so that’s perfect!
Great Job!!! you made it look so easy, thanks for sharing with us........
What size tv do you have? What size fireplace and what’s the width of the overall fireplace space
The tv is either 60” or 65”. The width of the fireplace/shiplap area is 5.5 feet. The link for the fireplace I used is in the description.
