I purchased one a few days ago, its not here yet tho... But considering i got it for 15% off im fine with waiting lol (black week sale, amazed the M1 MacBook Air was a part of that sale and not just the outgoing intel models).
It won't be able to maintain high levels of performance compared to the 13" MacBook Pro. But that is when it is really pushed, say for example exporting a video. However you will unlikely be constantly exporting videos, general use it should be fine.
My daughter wants this laptop for school, she's 18 years old (first year in College) I'm planning on buying on for her, for her Bday next year so I can save up, and buy the MacBook pro
Oh now I got the difference Apple is using USB 4 which is exactly/almost same to the thunderbolt 3 and the only difference is that it does not require intel chip and provides the same speed of 40 gbps.
I'm much happier with my MacBook Pro 16". With those dedicated CPU and GPU, my MacBooks much faster while editing videos or programming. But this one's fast compared to an SoC.
I dont like apple products, much prefer windows and android. But one thing i do like is apples laptops, i had a 2013 macbook pro and it was awesome, no windows laptop since then has come close to it for my everyday use. Now with the M1 chip, i may get rid of my windows laptop and grab myself a Macbook Air, it looks really enticing. My only concern is not being in the apple ecosystem, i would still never leave android, iOS is garbage in my opinion, and the rest of apples products are just not for me.
