Originally created in the early twentieth century to showcase technical skill and precision, Kebyar Ding displays a number of techniques that later became idiomatic of the gong kebyar style. Despite its importance in the development of gong kebyar, Kebyar Ding fell out of use until 1975, when I Wayan Beratha and a group of local musicians undertook the restoration process, using recordings from 1928 to reconstruct the piece.
