As a boatbuilder i have been bagging for some years now in and on odd shapes , Yes each one has its own twists and problems ( convex-concave 20meters??? the list is there) But for flat table work why do make it so hard for yourself with the glues etc?? (9 times out 10) i use 2 sheets of heavy plastic sheet to fit the job and seal it with brown packing tape,,, job done, Also i lay a plastic net ontop of the work to allow the air to travel ( inside the bag) try,, good fun, regards rik
Looking to do a skateboard build for a youth group and so pumped to see your page was the first that came up as ive been following you for years!!! Any tips when it comes to smaller applications for things like skateboard sealing bags?
nice job the fact that your finished product was not as expected is actually cool of you to publish your vidio. ., . . because you are correct that some folks may not actully be successful. THANKS BRO.
Thank you for sharing even the failed attempt. Honesty appreciated - I would suggest and I know it will work 1. First fold the two layers of open end of bag and staple the it. 2. Now secure secure the strip to the table with two way tape to avoid curling and apply the glue to the tape or the stapled bigger piece as you wish but the former would be better as glue will not stick to your fingers . 3. Apply the glue to half of the tape 4. Then attach the stapled bag to the tape with firm pressure. 5. Then apply the glue to the bag side upper surface and fold over the tape using roller 6. Attaching strip would be easier with no glue on it. 7. and you will be in control not the tape, it to curl. If timing is an issue then apply the glue as you slide the [attach- English my third language] the slip like attaching piping while sewing the garment. Good luck I myself will try this and might post video But I think you are better at presenting Look forward to your success in making the bag if not already doe so. Now I am off to Joe's site and also I think 2 Ways to Make Sealing Machine video by Juggad is very interesting to make own bag though it is on small bags.
Thank you for showing the failure. Personally, I find videos with all the mistakes left in more informative than videos where everything goes perfectly. I made a vacuum pump out of PVC pipe and about $40 worth of hardware, including a venturi valve which creates the vacuum. It works off my compressor and I've found that it works as well as, or better than, any vacuum pump at a fraction of the price.
I think the film and sealant tape used for fiberglass injection molding would work very well for this application. Instructions for this can be seen at the fibre glast website.
Thanks for all your instructional videos! I also am cheap and wanted to make my own vacuum bag. I know you do your research and was wondering what you thought about using vacuum bag sealing tape (ex. Jamestown Dist.) to seal a bag and leaks? Also shown is a polyester mat as a vacuum bleeder. A roll of tape is $15. What I thought was a vinyl (flooring) covered assembly table and tape down the vinyl bag material to the top to form a vacuum bag. This could form a large or small bag. Or use it on the seams to form a bag.
I wondered the same - I wouldn't think a GLUE joint there would INCREASE strength under vacuum pressure more than the original material, but it's possible the vacuum doesn't stress the glue joint, pulls it together, and gives some protection / increased durability over having a vulnerable single layer edge always exposed. Surprised he never replied to your questions in 4 yrs. Maybe he'll see this new activity and chime in!? Great job on all his videos & a highly likable guy.
I'm lost. I watched the same 3 minute section 4 times, so its glued in half the length, then the sides are glued so that means a sealed bag, so how does the vacuum bag work as in whats it clamped to and if the air in the sealed bag is sucked out, then how to that apply pressure to the bed?
Looks like he's made the job harder than necessary. Why not just glue the sheets directly to each other with a bead of clear 100% silicone 2" in from the edge? No need for the 4" wide strips. Also, there's no need to do any clamping with the glue you're using as it dries almost instantly. Silicone can also be used to make a sealed entry point for the vacuum hose.
"Polyurethane"? probably not. Likely one of the polyethylenes. Also some sort of air wicking material needs to be on both sides of your work not on just one. I must confess, I didn't watch the whole video so perhaps he covered this.
Don't let 'em get you down. My experience 15 or 20 years ago was full of disappointments. I'll go back to vinyl next and click to joewoodworker.com right now. Thank you for posting what you've learned.
so did the vinyl bag last 2 or 3 years? you say 3 in the beginning and 2 at the end... plus, really could have used a heads up at the beginning of this video that it was a failed experiment. yeah, you can use it to make a vinyl bag, but you prob should have still said something
i think your vids are the best we dont like to see you fail but it gives us a piece of mind that your not trying to pull a fast one either
14.7 pebble per square rock? Wow!! Seriously- thank you for the video, exactly what i needed and searched for. Excellent work.
funny, I spent about 10 hrs on Joes site today and his site led me to this video. ha
almost good ideas and helpful tricks. Really a pleasure to watch the videos ... best greetings from Germany

double side or double face tape is better
to seal all the bag
Rik, you seal the edges of your bag with packing tape?
Hi, enjoyed your video - I want to make a vinyl bag like yours but could you tell me the thickness of your material, please? Thank, Colin in UK

7:25 what's a "bad tape"? :D
wouldn´t it be advisable to use an FLAT BREATHER NETTING during the veneering proces ?

Jimmy Jim Jimmy Jim Jimmy Jam Jim Jim. Would you please make a video on ho PVC and Ventura valve to make your vacuum press. Thank you
Honestly I DIY to figure out everything that can go wrong. Showing the failures is more useful to me than the one example of getting it right.

My first pre sleeve video Now I'll be watching older videos to see it develop
Thanks 👍👍
can u heat weld it instead (heat gun..) vinyl..?? , and how do u seal the open end after putting in your wood panel,..??
thank u for this video can u please tell me where to buy the valves
Can you use a vac and bag to infuse wood with a stabilizer? vac chamber is to small for something i need to infuse.
Check out the description for the exciting details! :)

What type of plastic material?
Nice job, thank you for sharing your knowledge
How thick is that plasticl? Looks like 4-6mil off the shelf box store type

where can I buy vinyl?

Great video, thanx a ton

very honest very good !
nice vid love the idea
Thank you...
In the carbon fibre manufacturing industry they use 3M double sided tape to make vacuum presses I have used them myself
you could also go to a super market and ask for a PLASTIC BOTLLE BAG thats a thick bag where the keep there plastic botlles in
Would a normal air compressor hose work as a vacuum hose?

Wow everyone looks so young 😂
Dexter flashbacks
3ndahyaaa to Theotoo
so let me get this straight, you made me wait 11 minutes to tell me what you're doing doesn't work? Thanks.
i HAVE LOST MY TIME !!!!! PERDI MI TIEMPO !!!!!!!!!!!!!
can't stand that annoying music it sucks
Could you please delete this video? I just spent 15 minutes watching how not to do something.
