NFL Blitz was it own series that was actually about football but i love Blitz The League tho

Oh, man. Blitz The League was such a great response to EA taking the NFL license and basically ending the NFL Blitz series (funny enough, EA would bring back NFL Blitz later down the road).
The idea of this game was basically "You know all the stuff the NFL doesn't want you to see? Yeah, let's show that... and ramp it up to 11." It also helped that it had a very rare thing for sports games at that time: A story mode - in the first game, you lead an team that you created to basically get revenge against New York and their star player, Quentin Sands (played by Lawrence Taylor). To do so, you had to literally climb the ladder as The League had a promotion/relegation system much like what you see in most soccer leagues out there. Also to note, the story mode was written by the team behind Playmakers (remember that series? Pepperidge Farms does...)
When the sequel came around, the story mode was tweaked a bit: You play as 'Kid Franchise', The League's first two-way player in years. The commissioner, being a corrupt and greedy bastard, wants him to play on the L.A. Riot, his pet team. Kid Franchise tells him off so he can play for his hometown team (your created team).
Games like this one are a dime a dozen, I tell you.

As a reminder, or for those who don't know, the reason why Midway went the barbaric route for the Blitz series is because EA gained exclusive rights to the NFL license to keep making the Madden games.
Midway should be making more blitz games for the newer system they would have made a killing
Sometimes the league putting a license plate on the video game series for money is the best thing that's ever happen to Midway.

Also, if you think the injuries in this are bad, play Mutant League Football. You could literally cause the opposing team to forfeit by _murdering enough of them that they don't have enough players to finish the game._ And the field could be full of land mines.

I wish it would of come out for PC because they would of definetly modded all the real teams and players into it. Game probably would of still had online play going today if it did.
Dude the mods would be outrageous. More blood, permadeath feature, more detailed damage textures on the points of impact! The game was already a sport equivalent to Mortal Kombat. This would only solidify that statement.

The fact that there is an achievement called testi-kill for rupturing ten sets of scrotum and one called pitbull's revenge for injuring Mike "Not Vick" Mexico is all you need to know about this game. It is glorious!... Did I mention the story mode references the Vikings party boat scandal where the Minnesota team stand in, the Marauders all die alongside one solitary aspiring actress in an unfortunate boating accident?
Bill Romanowski and LT was in the story mode too. This game was a classic for me, but very graphic.

Well the inspiration for blitz the league 1&2 was based off a show called Playmakers it was a drama about a nfl team that had Michael Jai white as a 1st round pick who was also a crackhead. When the nfl told ESPN to cancel the show the director went on to help midway create this game.

I was born in 2001. I grew up playing the first and second blitz the league and it’s my personal favorite game of all time. Glad to see it’s getting some recognition here and on TikTok recently.
