It was an ability exclusive to Avatars. And the whole motif around Yun was emulating and desperately wanting to be the Avatar which, to me, is the catalyst of him creating his liquified earth, which could have evolved to modern lavanending. @@Auron1Roxas2 the bending disciplines are definitely not bound by genetics, but we see in the case of toph, azula and zuko that having a stronger line of benders can make you really good with scale attacks. Plus there is a small amount of genetics involved in sub-disciplines. Not everyone can learn metal, and now a few people are learning lava.

Hands down, Yun was the Toph version during Kyoshi's time, probably even ousting Kyoshi (with her Avatar buffs stripped off from her) as a better earthbender when it comes to raw power and intelligence on earthbending.

I Really love Yun as a character! Imagine if he had been able to “Let go,” as Kyoshi had suggested that he do. I love the credit Iroh gets for thinking of lightning redirection and how he studied water bending to help him develop this technique. However, as much as I love Iroh, can we please acknowledge that Fire Lord Sozin used a similar ability when helping Roku fight the volcanoes. Using a similar physical motion, Sozin literally sucked the heat out of the volcanoe and "redirected" that heat back out through his fingers as steam. I will always love that scene. Very underrated and I never see anyone talking about it
You know, I just thought that lavabending was only available to people that descended from both earthbenders and firebenders, like Bolin. Like even though they’re an earthbender, that firebending gene is necessary to access it. And it makes sense that maybe that’s why Bolin couldn’t metalbend. Maybe it takes pure earthbending genes or Avatar perks.

It was a piece of "space rock", as what they called it, later on in LOK clarified as a metal and one of the easiest to metalbend with its unique attributes. Even Toph's granddaughter Suyin collected them and it was seen in the city of Zaofu, then used by Kuvira in her megarobot stuff.

It's always awesome to see benders bring new dimensions to their element bending! I always believed benders have the ability to liquefy or solidify their elements. If water benders can solidify water, then earth bender could liquefy earth. Though I always had a hard time accepting meteorite bending - coz, meteors are NOT earth. Then how do they bend it more easily than actual earth. If earth benders are able to bend extra terrestrial earth (meteors), should they be able to bend any sort of earthly metal too?🧐 Any theories?
I will point out that Yun is almost certainly empowered by Father Glowworm. But Yuns manipulation of Earth should not be underestimated. And I think its a good point that peopl want to emulate the avatar. In the final fight that Yun has, he is very scary

I actually think he manipulated the paint at the firenation after glowworm (as Kyoshi is the known avatar at this point), though the in book the chapter is afterwards. When did Yun manipulate paint before glowworm?
The scene at the end of the shadow of kyoshi seems to me to be more implying that he was lavabending. It sounded like he melted the rock without an external heat source, not to mention that lava is liquid rock regardless of temperature
Hmmmm, I’m still not 100% convinced Yuns liquid earth bending abilities aren’t from him eating father glow worm given that spirit had some sort of odd abilities pertaining to earth as well. And honestly i’m not sure If i’d prefer it that way or not. I do agree that the idea of being able to push one self to hard that they find something new is cool but it would also be neat to get certain augmentations from sources of power like the spirits as well!

There are feats Toph has done that he hasnt either...... (e.g. metalbending) You also homogensie spirits with this sentence, there are strong spirits and weak spirits. Father Glowworm was a powerful spirit who was heavily weakened by Kuruk "he still is one of the greatest earth benders" Never disputed this, however you should give the correct context for each character. I do not know who would be better in a fight prior to the battle with glowworm, I think that we need more feats on his end. However, afterwards I think he has it, his skill is incredibly prodigous

King Lamont I don’t think he is wrong or right. Bolín is earthbender, who can lavabend, with a firebender mother. As of right now all the fandom is wrong until the creators confirm one way or the other. But coming from a place of common sense you can clearly see it can help, greatly, to lavabend if your genetic material is composed of 50/50

Look at avatar the last air bender. In winter solstice part 2, roku lava bends. It was commonly ignored but I recently finished legend of Korra and I’ve started re-watching avatar. That’s what pointed it out to me
I think we all learn what we are capable under desperate circumstances. I have thought this more in a light hearted way watching youtube creators do challenges where they have limitations and then they discover creativity they wouldn't have other wise. If every thing comes easy then we never reach our true potential. So I think I your theory is probably right.

Really cool theory, my only problem with it is that we already see Avatar Szeto lavabending in the short Avatar state montage. True we've only seen Szeto, Kyoshi and Roku bend lava while in the Avatar state but if the Avatar state is a collection of past Avatar's knowledge and experience then that must mean that the ability pre dates Kyoshi's time Just my opinion

It's like with energy bending, Aang learned it without the Avatar state first then Korra was able to use the Avatar state to access that knowledge. Is an earth bender able to both metal bend and lava bend? We only see people in the show do one or the other. And what makes someone be able to lava bend but not metal bend? If a bender could lava bend I don’t see how they would struggle with metal bending. And even the other way around
It would be cool if there actually are two avatars with twins who are earth bending avatars. and the the older brother merges with vaatu as vaatu comes back and is trying to win everyone out using the name of the avatar. As the younger brother gets pressured to stop his older brother which he cant because he is his brother afterall. he does all his best to contact all the lost avatars to fix korras mistake of losing the other lost avatars. After the younger brother finds the other avatars he gains immense power enough to beat the whole world who is siding with vaatu and the new dark avatar. And so they fought and fought until they almost destroyed the world the dark avatar/older brother got guilty of what he's done is trying to resist vaatu and letting his own body along with vaatu to be locked again in the spirit world. So he gets locked in and can never escape ever again with a new different cage or something else. Just my own story it would be cool if you read it all thanks. Ill take criticisms and your own story of the next avatar.

He has no confidence to face his brother. So he tries to restore the lost avatars which is written in the letter by korra. And no the cycle didnt end. Raava fused with korra again which made her an avatar again but the other avatars are lost like aang, wan, etc. So korra couldnt contact them anymore

In Legend of Korra, Aang and Katara had one air bender, Tenzin, one water bender, Kya, and one non bender, Bumi. Bumi, the non bender does get air bending in season 3 because spirit nonsense. Then there's Mako and Bolin, who are brothers from an Earth Kingdom father and a Fire Nation mother, Mako is a fire bender, Bolin is an earth bender.

ok,antoine i need help. i had a dream last night where katara zuko toph and aang were being chased by chi blockers and toph had lost her bending. so out of nowhere katara started metalbending and she turned the metal into a kinda liquid type of thing. she then wiped them all out in a tunnel of metal and got them out. but then she lost her metalbendinh. i dont get what the dream means.

Azula's Blue Fire Psychic blood bending(Amon family exclusive) And Lavabending ofcourse Even in Air Bending the innate ability to fly passively without active Bending is something so hard to master that it only occured twice in history. Hell Zaheer was capable of fighting off the combined Tornado of the AirNation until Korra intervened. So Lavabending Being a genetic trait doesn't bother that much, What bothers me is about how Szeto was able to do it, I mean he was the first as of now, and he has performed the greatest feat in the franchise as well, he was the best at the first try itself. Azula's Blue Fire is explicitly stated to be a result of her inborn hatered, Throughout the show she is treated as some sort of protege( "She was born lucky" ) I didn't say Flight is genetic but gaining flight is something not all Airbenders can achieve, Tenzin and Aang could not master it, neither could anyone prior, and that was precisely my point. And Psychic Blood bending according to Yakone himself is trait only found in their family line only, henceforth the fact that Tarlok could not learn it and that Amon could, can be assumed as a result of that genetic trait. And we don't know how Bending genes are passed down either, Aside From Psychic Bloodbending so I believe that these unusual traits should be considered as a born lucky or special ability (Amon and Yakone nobody else has actually learned Psychic Blood bending, it was very much a surprise to even Aang so that could be genetic)

I’ve always thought lava bending(with non-Avatars) started with Ghazan’s sister who is alluded to in that one scene with Mako and Bolin.

It’s not confirmed he had a sister. He only said Bolin got two out of three right and that was just one of the options. Pretty sure the him and Ming Hua one was right so it was either that or the beard. I don’t think it was that recently created.
Look at avatar the last air bender. In winter solstice part 2, roku lava bends. It was commonly ignored but I recently finished legend of Korra and I’ve started re-watching avatar. That’s what pointed it out to me

I think we all learn what we are capable under desperate circumstances. I have thought this more in a light hearted way watching youtube creators do challenges where they have limitations and then they discover creativity they wouldn't have other wise. If every thing comes easy then we never reach our true potential. So I think I your theory is probably right.

Really cool theory, my only problem with it is that we already see Avatar Szeto lavabending in the short Avatar state montage. True we've only seen Szeto, Kyoshi and Roku bend lava while in the Avatar state but if the Avatar state is a collection of past Avatar's knowledge and experience then that must mean that the ability pre dates Kyoshi's time

Avatar ability is different from non-Avatar ability, and that was the basis of Yun... emulating the Avatar.
@@AntoineBandele True but what I mean is it has to learned before you add it to the Avatar collection. It's like with energy bending, Aang learned it without the Avatar state first then Korra was able to use the Avatar state to access that knowledge.
So if Szeto can access lavabending while in the Avatar state it must be because a previous Avatar learned it first and he's just accessing his or her knowledge on how to lavabend
@@AntoineBandele also not that I'm trying to barrage you but even before Yun's time I don't think that lava bending was necessarily an Avatar exclusive power.
Maybe I should've talked about metal bending instead. Toph invented metal bending, Korra learned metal bending, future Avatars will also be able to metal bend even if they haven't learned it but by using the Avatar state (maybe, we don't know how the Avatar state works after Korra)
So Avatars can lavabend but its creator could've been a regular bender, maybe maybe not

Bolin became a lava bender because his mom is from the Fire Nation and its father is from the Earth Kingdom. So hot rock is lava
If we think Katara just started to Bloodbending when Aang and Sokka were about to killd them selfs and Bolin just can Lavabending cause they all were about to dye, so I think you have right, people don't born with that especific quality, just when they need that cames out.

Is an earth bender able to both metal bend and lava bend? We only see people in the show do one or the other. And what makes someone be able to lava bend but not metal bend? If a bender could lava bend I don’t see how they would struggle with metal bending. And even the other way around

It would be cool if there actually are two avatars with twins who are earth bending avatars.
and the the older brother merges with vaatu as vaatu comes back and is trying to win everyone out using the name of the avatar.
As the younger brother gets pressured to stop his older brother which he cant because he is his brother afterall. he does all his best to contact all the lost avatars to fix korras mistake of losing the other lost avatars.
After the younger brother finds the other avatars he gains immense power enough to beat the whole world who is siding with vaatu and the new dark avatar.
And so they fought and fought until they almost destroyed the world the dark avatar/older brother got guilty of what he's done is trying to resist vaatu and letting his own body along with vaatu to be locked again in the spirit world. So he gets locked in and can never escape ever again with a new different cage or something else.
Just my own story it would be cool if you read it all thanks.

I actually like it and also quick question wasn't the cycle supposed to end at korra thoe considering their was only two spaces left for two statues which would be aang then korra which mean the cycle was supposed to start over with her

He has no confidence to face his brother. So he tries to restore the lost avatars which is written in the letter by korra.
And no the cycle didnt end. Raava fused with korra again which made her an avatar again but the other avatars are lost like aang, wan, etc.
So korra couldnt contact them anymore

In order to Lava Bend you have to think like a Lava Bender. It's like when Toph was teaching Aang to Earth Bend. She told him...
Toph: There's no different angle, no clever solution, no trickety-trick that's going to move that rock. You've got to face it head on. And when I say head on, I mean like this ... (Jumps up and destroys the rock with her head.)
So in order to Lava Bend you have to THINK LIKE A Lava Bender. Face it head on. Don't be afraid of it harming you. Because it's not going to. And the reason it's not going to is because. IT'S GOING TO BEND TO YOUR WILL.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
I think Yun is the most powerful Non Avatar Earthbender, even more than Toph, Bumi and Jianzhu.

I have a theory about blood bending. The moon is present during the day and night. Also I have the idea of the next avatar is female earth bender. Where she is alive during another war involving the fire nation.
Actually if you look at the gender cycle of the Avatar that the next avatar will be a male.
The cycle goes boy, boy, girl, boy, girl
Roku(boy) Aang(boy) Korra(girl) Earth Avatar (boy) Fire Avatar (girl)
And it goes even further back
Salai(boy) Szeto(boy) Yang Chen(girl) Kuruk(boy) Kyoshi(girl) and continues to Roku etc...
So the next Avatar will be male

He basically blends it onto a liquid with earthbending, from what I can tell.

In Legend of Korra, Aang and Katara had one air bender, Tenzin, one water bender, Kya, and one non bender, Bumi. Bumi, the non bender does get air bending in season 3 because spirit nonsense.
Then there's Mako and Bolin, who are brothers from an Earth Kingdom father and a Fire Nation mother, Mako is a fire bender, Bolin is an earth bender.
Huh, Bolin does have a personality of a waterbender.

When I read that Yun had turned earth to liquid I just assumed lava bending but then Kyoshi said he turned it into like liquid earth

ok,antoine i need help. i had a dream last night where katara zuko toph and aang were being chased by chi blockers and toph had lost her bending. so out of nowhere katara started metalbending and she turned the metal into a kinda liquid type of thing. she then wiped them all out in a tunnel of metal and got them out. but then she lost her metalbendinh. i dont get what the dream means.

Oh yeah but about Lavabending being Genetic, I think there are similar traits in all of the Bending styles aside from Air.

Even in Air Bending the innate ability to fly passively without active Bending is something so hard to master that it only occured twice in history. Hell Zaheer was capable of fighting off the combined Tornado of the AirNation until Korra intervened.
So Lavabending Being a genetic trait doesn't bother that much, What bothers me is about how Szeto was able to do it, I mean he was the first as of now, and he has performed the greatest feat in the franchise as well, he was the best at the first try itself. Thats some hardcore stuff,

I'm pretty sure they treat it as genetic or at least a special ability in Legend of Korra, if it was indeed a trait anyone can learn it would indeed have been, more widespread. Toph even says that anyone can learn Metal bending but Lavabending is not like that.
Azula's Blue Fire is explicitly stated to be a result of her inborn hatered, Throughout the show she is treated as some sort of protege( "She was born lucky" )
I didn't say Flight is genetic but gaining flight is something not all Airbenders can achieve, Tenzin and Aang could not master it, neither could anyone prior, and that was precisely my point.
And Psychic Blood bending according to Yakone himself is trait only found in their family line only, henceforth the fact that Tarlok could not learn it and that Amon could, can be assumed as a result of that genetic trait.
And we don't know how Bending genes are passed down either, Aside From Psychic Bloodbending so I believe that these unusual traits should be considered as a born lucky or special ability (Amon and Yakone nobody else has actually learned Psychic Blood bending, it was very much a surprise to even Aang so that could be genetic)
