  • Here’s a long-awaited update on the 240. All is going well, thankfully. I’ve been getting a lot of coral growth since adding the Kessil A500X lights. The fish are all doing great and getting along nicely, except the clown tang. He started picking at the Gem, so he’s banished to the sump, for now. I added a big clown trigger last week. So far, so good with him. I’ve had mixed results with triggers in my reef, so time will tell. Couldn’t pass him up, though. For some reason, I impulsively added a spotted grouper to the tank. Yeah, I’m gonna try to catch him at some point.
Anyhow, hope everyone is going well. 🤙🏻

Wow that’s a nice assortment of fish on that reef… beautiful tank! I just setup and am cycling a 300g mixed reef myself and thinking about fish stocking rn.

@@adambgunn Thank you! Throughout the years, I’ve experimented with keeping several different fish in reef tanks. When a fish is labeled “not reef safe”, you just have to figure out what corals they tend to eat. In my case, certain fish (like big angel fish) love to eat zoas or elegance corals. So, I just don’t keep those types of corals in my tank, which now makes my big angel “reef safe”🤪
Generally speaking, certain fish don’t eat all corals, they like specific corals.
Triggers, on the other hand, they’re hit and miss.
Good luck with your tank! Make sure to post updates. I’ve been keeping reef tanks for almost 24 years and I still love learning new things.🤙🏻

@@hunkadory01 thanks for that info! I really want big angels so I’ll for sure keep an elegance off the stocking list. I do have zoas but I won’t be too broken hearted about those being eaten.. what do you think about large palys and large angels? I have a large colony of large deep green palys… they have that toxin so guessing no but curious about it. having the fish I want is key… just gonna keep easy corals (GSP, cloves, and some lps.) … I’ll post updates on YT soon.

@@adambgunn I haven’t seen an issue with pallys, thankfully. I have quite a few different types in there. I’ve always loved softies, the way they blow in the current. I have a few SPS, but not too many.

@@hunkadory01 Great.. I am growing that colony of palys across a rock bridge.. I think it'll look nice down the road. I like softies also, they're ok with high nutrient (actually prefer it in many cases) and look great. Good stuff!
